Not a credible source for work-related info
I am an organizational psychologist and I can tell you from listening that the host does not have much experience in the industry. My research is on burnout in the workplace. Many of the recommendations she gives are from an out of touch perspective of someone who is privileged and has not had to work their way up the corporate ladder. Also, count the number of times she mentions that she lives on an island. 🫩 To her credit, she does bring on thoughtful and insightful guests.

A Favorite!
This podcast quickly became a favorite of mine. I like the conversational format and the blend of funny humans, seasoned experts, and combos of the two! AHP is empathetic and honest, with a perspective on the world and skills for discernment that are just top notch.

A little cringeworthy
Please stop perpetuating the ā€œHR is not there for youā€ perception.

I’m not alone in my frustrations!
Every episode has had a segment I can relate to. It’s cynically nice to hear other people considering the same situations. A verification I’m not alone in my frustrations and good soul food for thought on how to continue my personal growth in both my professional and personal life.

Love this Podcast!
As a mid-career woman who has encountered and grappled with many of the same issues addressed on the podcast, I listen to many episodes multiple times. Anne has amazing guests and fabulous content. Love how she doesn’t shy away from hard or awkward topics!

Can’t stop listening
Every episode is helpful, insightful and compassionate. The episode on nonprofits resonates deeply. Thank you!

Get yr hands dirty, Anne
Def a podcast skewed towards ā€œthe right kind of white peopleā€. Would love to see interaction with working class issues that didn’t just circle back to weak ā€œenlightenedā€ platitudes but we know that Anne and her elite college cohort could never.

Pretty good, but...
Did I really hear the host & guest joke that the reason they don't like inappropriate touch at work is because "we're WASPs"? I'm Jewish, and I viscerally felt that as an antisemitic comment. I don't like inappropriate touch in the workplace either! WASPs don't have a better ability to judge what's appropriate. If I misunderstood, maybe the host can address it in a future episode. Thanks!

Every ep is a Win
She’s so sensible, her guests are often hilarious, and the questions and responses are so deeply loved, researched, and informed by common sense. I really, really appreciate the broad set of backgrounds her guests represent as well. I’m genuinely thankful for this podcast.

Work Appropriate helped me leave my terrible job
Anne Helen Petersen’s insights on the problems of passion jobs helped me to realize that the work I loved was also draining me and I was on my way to burning out. I had worked in various management and sales roles in fine dining restaurants and resorts my whole career. I can’t count the number of times I thought to myself ā€œthat sounds like meā€ while listening to anecdotes about horrible managers, nonexistent boundaries, and how many workplaces clearly aren’t run by people who have raised children. I resonated so hard with the person who shared their story about working on Christmas because they could get so much work done that day. Work Appropirate gave me the tools I needed to take the leap, leave my industry, and find a job that gave me some balance back in my life (with a 25% pay raise!!!). I now have a job in a growing industry that is fulfilling in new ways, and I actually have time to spend with my husband and daughter. This show literally changed my life and I’m so grateful!

Great topics and guests
I’ve read Culture Study in the past as well as Petersen’s other writings on work and life but it’s enjoyable to hear her in conversation with guests who offer different insights. I really recommend it!

I look forward to it every week!
Fascinating conservations even when they’re talking about an I did try or field I have nothing to do with. I have found many relatable tips and stories and love their approach to answering listener submissions.

AHP is a star!
I’ve loved Anne Helen’s writing since her ā€œScandals of Classic Hollywoodā€ column, and hearing her podcast be similarly excellent is a real treat. As someone who works from home, and is a fan of so many of her guests (two eps with Josh Gondleman?!), this podcast is a must listen during my breaks. Congrats to one of my favorite media companies (CM) for hosting a fun and thoughtful voice on so many important topics around work. Recommended!

Gentle way to think about work
I so appreciate this podcast because it doesn’t make me miserable even when thinking about work and it makes me feel not alone !

Meh.
The hosts and guests clearly have an issue with white men. They somehow find a way to point back to this demographic as the end all root cause of every caller question. And if nothing else, please stop using ā€œLikeā€ and ā€œLiterallyā€ every other word.

Any chance of a weekly spinoff featuring JG? Tentative title ā€œwork feelingsā€?

So helpful for 20 somethings
I’m a 25 year old whose industry was overturned during the pandemic. I’m working a stability job and trying to go back into my field, and this podcast is so helpful in speaking towards professional life and trends, especially in your early career and life. I look forward to episodes every week!

Love AHP
Love Anne Helen Petersen. Love the sound of AHP’s voice, and the great guests on the show. Also, I love the music!
Kermit389
Good show but pointed
The show is enjoyable and has a lot of good points but it’s clearly pointed at office culture and that doesn’t apply to my specific work situation so it’s hard to get into it on a good deal of episodes.

LOVE THIS PODCAST
I love this podcast. It is so insightful and helpful!! Keep up the good work!!

I love this!
I would mainline this topic if I could! Several topics I’d be keen to see covered: 1) how to get back into the world of work and/or discover the color of your parachute after a long period out of rotation, (eg caretaker, childcare stay at-homer). Especially as someone older. 2) how to know when to fish or cut bait, like what to do when you’ve put a bunch of time and passion and investment into a particular org or government job or career but you have hit a wall, and feel like the things you need to make the company succeed aren’t ever coming from the top? 3) how to stand up to a boss who doesn’t know what they’re doing, respectfully. And how to do so in a way that gets into the nitty gritty details, like tell me what to say! 4) when to speak up about grievances and when to keep it to yourself 5) the non profit industrial complex? 6) what to do when you manage a staff of folks who are seemingly checked out? I think that’s it for now! Thanks so much for this podcast!

Brilliant
Thank goodness for Anne Helen Petersen and her wonderful talent for helping us all understand how we can chart a new era in the workplace. Subscribe to her newsletter - it’s my favorite thing I read each week!

Nothing earth shattering
This is all information presented in a way that is simple, often too simple and disorganized, and not by an expert with a degree in organizational psychology or anything else related to managing relationships. I was really disappointed in the lackluster episodes and guests. Adam Grant is by far the expert and provides data, actionable learning items, and also has the foundational knowledge to back this up. This podcast lacks too much to be construed as anything helpful.

Brilliant!
She is so brilliant! I’m learning so much already. Workplace culture is such a huge and important aspect of our lives but too many of us (including me) often just accept bad environments and treatment (ie: being a female boss who older employees expect to do all the ā€˜helping’ with administrative tasks in additional to providing constant emotional and social labour which prevents me from getting my actual work done)

Excellent Podcast
I’ve been enjoying Anne Helen Peterson’s writing for a while now, so I was so excited when she announced a new podcast. It did not disappoint! Anne’s conversations with her guest hosts are really delightful to listen to —fun and casual while also providing thoughtful advice. Definitely recommend a listen.

Solid podcast on working
Yes! There are not enough podcasts like this that get to the heart of why it’s hard to be a woman or a parent in the workforce. Great guests.

Deeper perspective on the workplace
I’ve been a fan of Anne Helen Petersen for years, and the podcast medium is well-suited to her inquisitive questioning style. As a person young in my career, the podcast has already made me rethink some norms in my workplace (especially around parenting), and I look forward to future episodes that do the same!

Usable, helpful information
Not only is Anne Helen’s new podcast enjoyable to listen to but it is providing tangible advice for listeners navigating the ever-changing employment landscape. She and her guests offer solutions to situations that I find myself in while navigating the workplace and I am really grateful for an entertaining and practical podcast to fill some of my listening time.

Anne Helen Petersen is great!
I’ve been reading her substack for ages so had to check this out. As expected it is thoughtful and insightful. Now go usurp that Rogan recap nonsense!

Really great discussions
I’ve been a big fan of Anne’s writing and analysis of work culture through that medium. I was very excited to learn she was doing a podcast and the first episodes don’t disappoint. She has interesting guests and asks incisive questions that get to the heart of many work conundrums. I think she has the right voice and experience to make everyone understand how universal these work issues are.

You’re Probably Not the Crazy One
So often I find myself in work situations that have me questioning if I’m the crazy one. The workplace situations Work Appropriate addresses often feel universally applicable, and I’ve already found myself nodding along with some of the questions and saying, ā€œME TOO.ā€ So glad I have this pod to remind me that, in fact, I’m rarely the crazy one. And you probably aren’t either!

Insightful, Clever, and Helpful
I really enjoy the practical nature of the questions and answers on this podcast—navigating the world of the contemporary workplace is an actual nightmare and Helen and her guests help break it down in ways that are helpful and sometimes even funny!

As a devoted Anne Helen Petersen groupie, I was thrilled for another medium to hear her brilliant takes and insights on work culture (and literally anything else!). These are things my friends and I think about constantly, and it’s wonderful to hear smarter and more eloquent people assure us we’re not alone.

Anne Helen strikes again
Anne Helen’s work is always SO spot on and cuts right to what everyone is feeling and needing language to define. Work Appropriate is no different and perfect for this moment as we seek to understanding the meaning of work ā€œpostā€ COVID.

I appreciate Anne Helen’s insights
And always have, I wish her podcast didn’t have to be solely focused on work, but more free form like her newsletter. I still look forward to each episode though. She has a nice voice too.

Truth teller — Anne Helen Petersen
I have followed Anne since discovering a class she taught years back at Whitman College, entitled "Mad Men: Media, Gender, Historiography." From then on, I read her substack posts, read her book ā€œOut of Officeā€ and continue to be enlightened by all of her content. I love the new podcast and feel so informed on timely topics every time I get the chance to be educated by her.

I’m not alone!
Until I found Anne Helen Peterson’s newsletter and subsequent podcast, I felt so alone in my work struggles. Surely no one else was feeling the way I was about the false promises of ā€œmeaningful workā€ and the constant uphill battle of being a woman in the workplace. This gives voice to all of us who have persevered in silence for so long - we can now be a part of the conversation!
