Data shows that up to 35% of elite athletes suffer from a mental health crisis which may manifest as stress, eating disorders, burnout, or depression and anxiety. Athletes deal with so much pressure and they encounter risk factors for mental health disruption such as lifestyle requirements, the competitive environment, and the impact of social stigmas and perfection.
Today, I have the pleasure of having retired NFL player, Mike Jordan, on the show to discuss the mental health and well-being of an athlete. I learned so much from this conversation that highlights behind the scene of what an athlete deals with. Most importantly, I learned that they are human just like us and deal with mental health and life issues just like us.

Therapy and Ministry are different in the approach of how they help those in need. Many of us may be against therapy because we use our pastor for counseling because of the word they use as a guide. However, there is something called Christian Counseling. This style of counseling has a unique advantage of being able to approach issues holistically based on three dimensions-body, mind, and spirit. In fact, there are ministers who are license therapist and most christian counselors play a vital role in church and they use a biblical approach. I hope that you enjoy this conversation with ministers C Jay Price, Steven Robinson, Jr, and Marcel Scruggs, as we discuss ministry and therapy. Always remember to do what works for you and to not judge another for their desire of therapist or minister.
The "wine of the day" is Love Cork Screw's “GOOD TIMES GOOD FRIENDS”. This wine is a Pinot Grigio
which is a medium-bodied, flavorful wine with a crisp and clean apple and pear character.

Grief is something that we all face in life. We grieve failed relationships, the death of a loved one, and losing a job or moving. Grief is a part of life just as much as the healing process of a part of life. We have to go through the entire process of healing to be stronger, wiser, and healthier in the end.
Tonight my guest LaMonica Nolen and myself shared our challenges with grief and also our journey in the process of healing. LaMonica also shared that apart of her healing process was writing and becoming an author of her first book "The Surrendering" that is available on Amazon.

Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death for Americans today. Over 1.3 million Americans attempted suicide last year alone. Some of us don't understand how suicide can be the answer for someone but it happens. People feel alone, lost, hopeless, and that the world would be better without them. Today my guest, Kevin Sims, with discuss his challenges with suicidal ideation and how he overcame.

Self-Care is so important to our everyday life and we have to make yourself the priority. There is saying that “you can't pour from an empty cup." This statement is so true because when you don’t give to yourself you, you have nothing to give to others. Episode 1 discusses how to change your perception of self-care. Self care is more than the average massage, pedicure, or bubble bath. Self- care is simply dating yourself and valuing yourself first. Self-care is not you being selfish but its you making yourself better for self and others. . Self-care is the idea of you having a healthy and functional relationship with yourself. I hope this episode helps you change your view of self-care.
