E18 - Frank Ockenfels 3 - The artist, photographer, and mentor speaks on the creative process, continually pushing your boundaries, and working with David Bowie.
Photographer, artist and visionary mentor Frank Ockenfels III joins for a conversation about creativity. Frank is a keen observer of the world around him. He makes art every day with reckless abandon. Shooting old film cameras from the mid 1900's, expired film, and painting on top of his prints. He's always experimenting and always pushing his limits. Failure is simply a step closer to the goal of making something new, something unique, and something that can only be created when you "look beyond the obvious". Highly regarded as one of the most in-demand photographers in Hollywood, Frank and I dive into a great conversation about life, art, and enjoying the ride. Salud!

E16 - Kami Kenna - Moving to Peru, starting a pisco brand, traveling Mexico, and how to follow your curiosities.
Guest Kami Kenna is a brand owner, educator, and most recently a masters student in the Steinhardt School of Education, Culture, and Human Development at NYU. She moved to Peru after winning a competition that gave her free travel, ended up falling in love with the culture and the spirits, and ended up staying for a while. In Mexico, she worked for one of the highest-rated Tequila, Mezcal, and Raicilla tour agencies, Experience Agave, and is now the senior tour coordinator, leading tours through the Tequila Valley and Highlands, into Oaxaca and western Jalisco. Additionally, she has done consultation and education at a number of bars, restaurants, and breweries from the Peruvian Andes to Mexico's Tequila Valley. In July of 2019, Kammi moved from Mexico to New York City to attend NYU and pursue a master's in the Food Studies program at their Steinhardt School of Education, Culture, and Human Development. In her free time, she runs a blog about Latin American spirits called Drink A Seat, with the aim of empowering producers by highlighting the spirits, ferments, and other drinkables produced throughout the region.

E13 - Clayton Szczech - Agave spirits expert- Traveling with an open mind, embacing culture, and the politics of supporting native resources.
Clayton Szczech is equal parts scholar, evangelist, and nerd. Clayton is a full-time agave spirits culture specialist who believes that agave spirits should be sipped and savored, their history and culture absorbed and appreciated, and their regions of origin explored. This ideology led him to create a new category of agave spirits tourism in Mexico. Fluent both linguistically and culturally, his dedication to Mexico has flourished over the past 25 years. It began as an affinity for the Spanish language and developed into an active exploration of culture where he discovered that agave spirits are not just a beverage—but a place, history and tradition. Clayton is proud to be a global interpreter of and voice for agave spirits. He is certified as an Experto en Tequila and the only non-Mexican national to earn the Tequila Regulatory Council’s prestigious “Double-T” certification. Pre-Covid he spent his time traveling the world speaking about agave spirits, consulting, or serving as a tasting judge for spirits festivals. Enjoy this far-reaching conversation about Mexico, the people, the place, and the culture.

E12 - Gina Rae La Cerva - Her new book "Feasting Wild", traveling the world in search of indigenous knowledge, "wild" food, and romance...
Todays guest is Gina Rae La Cerva - A writer and anthropologist who searches for wild foods—and reveals what we lose in a world where wildness itself is misunderstood, commodified, and hotly pursued. She holds degrees from Yale University, The University of Cambridge, and Vassar College. An avid adventurer, LaCerva has researched tsunamis in Indonesia, crossed the Pacific Ocean on a sailboat, and gone scuba diving with barracudas. Her love of being outside began in childhood, as she grew up exploring the mountains of northern New Mexico. She is dedicated to writing about environmental science and philosophy in ways that both personalize and contextualize dense research, broadening the scope of engagement with these subjects to scientists and non-scientists alike. For most of human history, we hunted and gathered. Today, most people will never eat anything undomesticated. And yet the desire to eat wild has never been stronger. To understand this trend, La Cerva forages for wild onions in a Danish cemetery, tracks the trade in illegal bushmeat from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Europe, sips elusive bird’s nest soup in Borneo, and smuggles Swedish "heartbreak" moose meat home in her suitcase. "Feasting Wild" is a remarkable celebration of biodiversity, Indigenous and women's knowledge, our vital connection to nature, and delicious flavors! I hope you enjoy this episode with GinaRae La Cerva

E11 - Pete McBride - Hiking the Grand Canyon, airplane crashes, traveling to 75 countries, and importance of "silence"....
Native Coloradan Pete McBride has spent two decades studying the world with a camera. A self-taught photographer, filmmaker, writer, and public speaker, he has traveled to 75 countries for the National Geographic Society, Smithsonian, Google, The Nature Conservancy, and more. He has also spoken on stages for TEDx, The World Economic Forum, USAID, Nat Geo Live, and many others. After a decade documenting remote expeditions from Everest to Antarctica, McBride decided to focus his camera closer to home on a subject near to his heart—his backyard river, the Colorado. Four years and 1500 river-miles later, McBride produced an acclaimed book, three award-winning documentaries, and co-hosted a PBS TV program. Next, over the course of a year, McBride hiked the entire length of Grand Canyon National Park — over 750 miles without a trail — to highlight development challenges facing this iconic landscape. After completing the journey, McBride released a book, “Grand Canyon; Between River and Rim,” that won a National Outdoor Book Award. He accompanied the book with a feature-length documentary, "Into the Grand Canyon", that you can watch on Disney+, which won Best Feature at the Banff Mountain Film Festival, among others. His latest project is about the value of silence.
