There hasn’t been an episode for a little while, so today’s episode is a little longer than usual! It was recorded pre-pandemic with the incredible force of determination and resilience - Maddy Warren who was nominated by Deena Gornick in episode 18. Maddy is a consultant, TEDx speaker, skydiver, kidney patient advocate and she has been on dialysis for 23 years after experiencing kidney failure at the age of 14 and she has the amazing self-appointed title of Queen of Dialysis. Over the course of our conversation, I learnt so much from Maddy, not only about kidneys and self-dialysis but about courage, independence, community, resilience and not giving up on what’s important to you, regardless of the hurdles that may get in the way. This is a lovely conversation with the incredibly inspiring Jackie Scully. Although recorded over a year ago, I often think about snippets of things she said in this chat and her perspective on kindness feels more relevant than ever now. Since recording this episode we've become much closer friends especially over the various lockdown, so it's really nice to listen back to one of our early conversations. Jackie is an Executive Director at Think Publishing, winner of numerous awards such as the WACL Future Leaders, Women of the Future and she has also been listed as one of the 50 leading lights in Kindness & Leadership UK. ...but I think the thing that is most interesting to me, is that despite her vast experience as a writer, editor, strategist and marketeer, the conversation we shared was very much focused around overcoming challenges that life throws in your path and focusing on building bravery, self-belief and understanding the power of kindness. Jackie has had a number of 'bumps in the road' as she calls them, from having to have her hip rebuilt to discovering she had breast cancer at the age of 32 and she discusses how this led her to reevaluate priorities and what success means to her. My guest for this episode is the talented Deena Gornick, an executive and board level coach, facilitator and writer and since recording this back at the end of 2019 we've become good friends too - albeit remotely! I have a number of interviews like this one that were recorded last year that I have yet to release as other priorities have had to come first but it's been exciting to listen back to these conversations and reflect on them with a new light - especially after the challenges of 2020. In this episode we discuss how Deena found her calling as a coach - how she started out as an actor, but soon discovered that she enjoyed helping other people to perform and find themselves much more than she enjoyed acting. We actually ended up chatting for hours so it was really hard to cut this interview down but it's still a meaty and interesting discussion about courage, creativity and most of all the search for confidence. My guest today is Samantha Clarke, happiness consultant, TEDx & Keynote Speaker & author of Love It or Leave It - How to be Happy at work. Sam is super passionate about improving people's happiness and helping them to make decisions about what they love and want to do more of and what they want to leave behind. In this episode (recorded Autumn 2019) I speak to Lizzie Edwards, Personal Stylist, Author, Speaker and Image Consultant. Lizzie was nominated by Antoinette Dale Henderson (Ep 9) who was inspired by how Lizzie helps female leaders increase their impact. It was fascinating to hear Lizzie speak about style, not from a focus of fashion, but instead as a tool of visual branding and confidence.
