Love this show's outlook
Presented with knowledge, humor, and wit, this podcast is a reminder that good or bad, all movies are the result of the hard, often thankless work of people with inner lives and ambitions.

Incredible research; kinda annoying impressions.
This show is second to none in terms of the info they provide. It’s stunning how well researched and fascinating they make even movies you’ve never seen. Really appreciate what they do. Only thing making this four stars instead of five (which I do feel a little bad about) for me is the love they have for doing “old timey” voices…a LOT. Sorry, but it’s super obnoxious and makes me want to skip over some episodes. This show could be perfect if they’d tone that down a bit. Either way many episodes are indeed perfect when they don’t let it get out of hand. Well done, folks.

Why the politics?
Keen observations and trivia ruined by woke political agendas that feel the need to point out everything that actors and directors do that hurt their fee-fees. I’d just like to hear about the movie’s background, not how much you’re offended by how you perceive the movie treated an intersectional group.
More trivia and background, less virtue signaling.

Reignited my love for movies
This podcast has genuinely reinvigorated my love for movies.
I spend a lot of my days driving Uber, and What Went Wrong has become one of my favorite things to listen to between rides. The way they break down the behind-the-scenes stories, production problems, casting changes, studio decisions, creative intent, and all the chaos that happens before a movie ever reaches the screen has made me appreciate films in a completely new way.
It has even made me want to go back and revisit movies I already own, especially on Blu-ray, because I’m being reminded how valuable physical media is — not just for owning the movie, but for preserving the behind-the-scenes features, commentaries, and extras that help you understand how these films were actually made.
I also really appreciate that the hosts give their opinions. That’s part of what a podcast is. They’re not just reading facts off a page; they’re discussing movies as people who care about them, who have done the research, and who understand the industry. Even when I don’t agree with every take, I respect hearing their perspective.
The Crow episode especially hit me hard. I already knew the tragedy surrounding Brandon Lee, but hearing the full chain of events and how many preventable mistakes led to that moment gave me a deeper appreciation for the film, its legacy, and everything that went into finishing it.
This show has made my long driving days more enjoyable, has given me great conversations with riders, and has made me excited about movies again in a way I haven’t felt in a while. It’s informative, entertaining, thoughtful, and clearly made by people who love film.
I’m very glad I found it.

One of my favorites
I LOVE your podcast. I found you through your appearance on the Twilight Zone episode of American Scandal and now I can’t quit listening. Your research is great and the content is awesome.

My favorite podcast, full stop!
This is such an enjoyable podcast! I look forward to each new episode. Lizzie and Chris are affable and funny and have great chemistry; it’s clear they really like and respect each other, even if they may have different opinions or takes on the film they are discussing. Their knowledge of film-making, movie history, and cinema esoterica is impressive and they are clearly passionate about it. Even when they are covering a film I haven’t seen I still enjoy listening to the episode, and sometimes I will be inspired to go watch it afterwards. Give it a try!

A+ Storytelling and Sound Design
I am obsessed with the great sound design and the great conversations. Check out Star Wars episodes to hear a great sound intro. The ancient joy of watching “extras” and behind the scenes on a dvd is recreated in this fantastic podcast. The combination of energy and creativity of the co-hosts sparkles and their research always feels curated well to get various perspectives. I used to work in the film industry (camera dept) and their insights are spot on. I subscribe to very few podcasts but immediately wanted to pay for an ad free experience and to support more content like this. Do you love films? This, my friend is for you.

What went right!
Chris and Lizzie do an unbelievable job doing deep research then turn around and do a fantastic job telling the story of each film on how it was made and how close it was to being a different experience for us as a consumer. I found myself binging episode after episode to find out how some of my favorite movies struggled, almost miscast, or barely made it to the big screen.
Anyone who is a fan of movies or has a reverence for the film making industry should give this a listen.

I’m not the best at leaving reviews. But I know I love this one! my drives and days go by so smoothly keep talking.

too many ads but still superior to unspooled
With all the love in the world — please, enough with the quivering crying voices (Lizzie getting emotional in the Giant ep and Chris in the Galaxy Quest ep especially). So insanely uncomfortable to listen to but despite that i love this podcast 🤪
sooooo much better than Unspooled — Chris and Lizzie have genuine chemistry and feel like my parasocial friends :)

Good and Bad
It is an extremely informative podcast. I learned quite a bit. The hosts have excellent chemistry. They are woke, judgy, pretentious, virtue signaling, pedantic and can be cringe inducingly melodramatic at times. I found it insulting when they referred to Rod Sterling as the guy with the kind of messed up teeth. Just sooooooo unnecessary. Still and all a good podcast for movie buffs if you can deal with the lefty take on everything.

It’s Really Fun…
I love this podcast. I had no idea it even existed until Lizzie competed in Movie Fights. I’ve been hooked for the better part of a couple of months. It’s a genius idea that I just love. The chemistry between the hosts is infectious and it’s a really good peek behind the curtain. Just like practically everything they describe in every episode, it is in fact very fun!

My favorite podcast. Full stop.
This is my favorite podcast. I’ve gone so far as to become a subscriber in Patreon because this is my favorite podcast.
I was just listening to the Dune episode when you found the need to explain yourself to some Internet troll, and it made me very annoyed .
You guys are the best. Interesting. Funny. Great podcast presence. Everything good in a podcast… What went right!
Keep up the great work I look forward to your podcast every week.

Come for the content, stay for the audio
This is such a pleasure listen for me. Really smooth audio, excellent chemistry with hosts and well researched content. I listen to episodes on movies I haven’t even seen. Like a weighted blanket, feels great to put this on and chill for a bit.

Addictive
I learned of this podcast when the hosts were on the Glamour Trash podcast. Their guest commentary was so interesting that I decided to start listening to their show, and I can’t stop listening! It’s is fantastic!

Great pod, easy listening
I really enjoy this podcast. The hosts have great chemistry and there is so much information about the movies that make me see the whole process in a different light. It’s even gotten me to watch some movies that I had not really given a second thought to. I’ve also rewatched movies I’ve seen previously and it’s interesting to see some of these movies years later with an adult perspective. Great job Lizzie and Chris

Why had I not heard this podcast before?
Well, I just can’t remember how I found this podcast but damn, it’s one of my favorites now, even my monthly review of listening told me I am listening too much 😝. Just listen and you will love how Chris and Lizzie are the perfect pair. Thanks for bringing me to backstage and allowing me to see how movies go so wrong but are amazing.

Great for cinephiles and film nerds!
I love how much detail this podcast goes into about the various stages of production. One of my fav parts of each episode is when Lizzie and Chris talk about who almost got casted. Keep up the great work! Love your show!

Great show but
You two have great chemistry and charisma when you talk about movies and your show is great . But you don’t have to apologize for everything that has not aged so will in every movie you cover. They are a comment on their time .Also the confidence (we know you are not film historians )with which you mis-state facts is breathtaking .I shotgunned all the eps though so there is that.

Fantastic podcast for those that love movies
This is my new favorite podcast. I’m late to the game, but am quickly catching up binging all the episodes. I love the lively back and forth between Lizzie and Chris. They are so knowledgeable but also very funny. They clearly love movies and truly seem to enjoy working together. They somehow manage to not step on each other’s toes as they dig deep into each movie. I often catch myself smiling listening to their back and forth repartee. I hope they never retire; there are are so many more movies to go.

One of the better movie podcasts
I’ve listened to a bunch of movie podcasts over the years, and after listening to a handful of this one, it’s quickly become one of my favorites. The podcast has the basics down; good production value, great chemistry between the hosts, and great content. What tips this over the edge though is I’m not sure I’ve ever heard another movie podcast that includes the amount of research that they do…and it works. They also stick to discussing the movie, with a minimum of deviation from the topic. Love it!

Love
I have loved this show for a long time, but just wanted to send a special hug for the “Giant” episode. I was on a long hike, and listening to all the ways that Elizabeth Taylor created and helped AIDS research had me in a flood of tears. That’s why this show is so incredible. It goes beyond your typical film analysis into something truly heartfelt, and I’m so thankful for y’all for putting it together. Love from Savannah, GA. Warren 2026

So many details!
This show helps me see cinema in a whole new way. I’m learning to find and appreciated the smaller details that make a movie special. The hosts have the expertise and time is well structured, and still it feels like I’m in a conversation with friends. Please consider doing the movie Idiocracy! 😊

My New Favorite Podcast Full Stop
I was looking for a new podcast for a drive I had to make as I’d already exhausted my regulars - came across this gem and saw that they had done my favorite film, Seven Samurai, and I was hooked! As more of a casual fan of cinema, its really fascinating to hear Chris and Lizzie give more of the technical background of how films get made, and they’re both charming and hilarious hosts that make it a fun ride. Glad to have stumbled upon this show and its creators!

Tried multiple times to like this podcast..
I swear every time I try to like this podcast, they make some of the most myopic, shortsighted, modernistic takes. Stop trying to apply modern metrics to movies of other eras. Eras where there was greatness and excellence. There’s a reason why 90% of modern movies are complete trash—the studios evidently have rooms full of writers and producers with the same flatline mentalities as these two have. Their inability to extricate themselves from their current (fleeting) worldview/ideological limitations and just *enjoy* a piece of art for what it is and when it was made, causes them to be their own worst enemy when making cinematic evaluations and displays their clear disconnect with common Americans vs Hollywood’s self-fellating bubble.

Hilarious and Informative
After feeling lost in life after The Big Flop ended, this podcast has helped fill the void.
Very funny and well researched. Even without seeing the movies being discussed, the hosts are great at explaining the movie and providing insights. Also love that Fantastic Four (2015) is their benchmark for bad movies (at least in their early episodes.)

Breath of fresh air
What a breath of fresh air this podcast is. I'm used to podcast giving too much fluff and opinion. I really appreciate the research the authors put into this show. I love listening smiling and reminiscing with some oldie but goodies. Another bonus is the clean language. Keep up the great work guys.

Toy Story hooked me
I heard about this podcast listening to Two Judgy Girls, and The Toy Story episode totally hooked me! Learning the back story of this movie that I have loved my entire life was so fascinating, and there was so much great detail!

Good show, but get over it
Stick to the movie, no one cares about your ridiculous opinions about what is and isn’t right

Thoroughly enjoying
I cannot stop listening to this podcast. Every time I open something else I end up switching to an episode from this one instead.
This was recently recommended to me and since there are so many episodes to choose from, I'm having lots of fun hopping around.

My Favorite Running Companion
I’ve been listening to WWW for about a year now and plan out which of my weekly training runs I’ll get to enjoy listening to episodes on. (Luckily there are lots of years I’ve saved to augment the new ones.) Lizzie and Chris are a delight and I always learn something new and go back to rewatch things I’ve not seen in years. Love it!

A Great Dynamic
Even if you’re not a movie buff, this podcast will be of interest. The hosts have great personalities that work well together and a lot of background knowledge. Some podcasts only have the former and become vapid, but here they have a perfect balance of being light, but insightful!
One Request: More voices from Lizzie, please (especially the ‘nerd’ voice from the first LOTR episode)!

Quality Programming
This is a perfect podcast. I cannot get enough. They clearly put so much effort into all aspects of the show. Every episode is interesting whether you’ve seen the movie or not. Fascinating, fun, funny, and emotional at the right times.

Great Podcast
I don’t recall how I first connected with the podcast, but I am really happy I did! Fascinating! Then I discovered (sadly) through the sharing of Chris losing his home in the Eaton Fire, a connection. I grew up in Altadena, and most of my friends still call Altadena home. It’s a special community, one that San Diego (current residence) can never replace. Wishing you both the best of luck as you move forward following that tragic event. Thanks for the podcast!

Fun mostly
"What Went Wrong" where they discuss the production of classic movies, and Lizzie tells an honest opinion, where as Chris tells a safer than appropriate opinion of every movie. It's kinda annoying when Chris has anything to say.

What a relief
You might think hearing endless stories about movie production mishaps would be a downer but it’s so fun! Thanks to the two amazing guests and their producer. Great research, fun energy, every episode of this podcasts makes me instantly want to rewatch whatever movie they cover. Cheers to many more years of listening. And if you’re new you WILL be binging it.

The Only Podcast I Need
I found What Went Wrong years ago, and have been following them ever since. I look forward to every Monday morning when I can sit down at work and listen to the new episodes. Not only do I get to hear great behind the scenes stories about some of my favorite movies, I also get to discover new ones I’ve overlooked or never got around to. So I appreciate the time and effort they put into each episode because they sound genuinely excited to talk about, which gets me excited even if I don’t know the movie. Keep doing the pod and thank you so much.

Let alone a good podcast
This has been a super-welcome and refreshing addition to my movie pod docket. All films are well-researched and lovingly unpacked, in a way that brings insight, humor, and real affection to the question of “why it’s so hard to make them.” Thanks for bringing a bright spot to every Monday.
