What the Hell is Up
What the Hell is Up
What the Hell is Up
An ex-wannabe-world-changer asks "what the hell is up" with local artists and changemakers. Each episode, I'll chat with artists who offer proof that art has the power to inspire authenticity, community, and change. You'll hear local indie music, conversations that provoke inspiration, and my own reflections. I once thought that I had to sacrifice my love of the arts to help change the world, now I believe that beauty and art have the power to connect and change us –maybe more than anything else.

3.13: Rooted in Sisterhood FEAT. Cal w/ music by Lyncs
What the hell is up stars? I'm tuning in on a cozy Autumnal evening, which in Los Angeles followed a 79 degree day. Nonetheless, the effortless feeling of fall in it's ability to transport us to something a bit slower, and perhaps more inward, feels noticeable to me. And with it ushers in a time to consider gratitude. In today's episode, I'm featuring my bestie, my logo designer, my creative collaborator, my little sis Cal! We discuss her move to LA, intuition and sisterhood, and our passion for dance together. I hope you enjoy learning about the lovely Callan Moore and the way our sisterhood has formed us. I also feature "I Burned my Diary Last Night" by LA-based indie pop artist Lyncs, which is the perfect ode to letting yourself fall. 3.12: Rooted in being just a baby FEAT. Border Collie
What the hell is up stars? I went back and forth on what to name this episode. I could've called it rooted in the process of songwriting, rooted in being a band, or rooted in each other, but the central theme here really did feel like it was about being a baby. I sat down with LA-based indie, folk rock band to discuss the formation of their band and their first three singles. In today's episode you'll hear Kieffer, Elon and Julian, share thoughts on musical inspiration from John Mayer to James Jamerson, how it feels to be a baby in LA, and what it's like to stay rooted through mental illness. I felt rooted in conversation with these three talented musicians and funny pals. I hope you do too. What the hell is up stars??? Today we're rooting into sad lesbian music. I sat down with LA's Girlfriend on the Moon in my newly minted podcast studio to chat about queer identity, labels, love, heart break, and ridiculous stories that can't be real but are because they're gay. We laughed and got deep as we rooted into some of the sadder stories which have formed us. This is the queer gal chat I might have longed to hear when I was a teenager. 3.06: Rooted in the Past and Present FEAT. Empty Head by Frankie Cosmos
Hello stars. What the hell is up? I'm settling into Los Angeles and after the rainstorms from last week, which caused quite a disruption here, the sun has returned, and with it my spirit to release an episode! In today's episode, I discuss what I've been up to getting rooted in the present, while admittedly being rooted in the past. I'd argue that reflecting about the past allows us to be present and to create a bright future. What the hell is up with you? I'm very excited to also share some media and music gems which have been bringing me life including the song Empty Head by Frankie Cosmos, released through Seattle's Subpop Records.  Check out my new website! www.whatthehellisuppod.com Featured song:  Empty Head by Frankie Cosmos https://www.frankiecosmosband.com/ Mentions:  Umi (singer/songwriter) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifaDO-0n2Fs Wednesday (Netflix)  Glass Onion (Netflix)  My friends and fam back home who've stayed connected with me. <3 CREDS:  Pod Logo: Callan Moore Intro/outro music: Afterspace Rooted music: Matthew Boerner Website: Katie Baumheckel  Editing/mixing: moi Stay rooted, stars <3  Clairey
