Easily my favorite podcast with excellent narration and production. But the most important element is the quality of the subjects. By way of example, the interviews with Quincy Jones and Buddy Guy highlighted a determined anger to their experience of racial discrimination and not a trace of victimhood. Similarly the Sal Kahn interview offered the kind of insights not present in podcasts that are merely entertaining.

This is the podcast I go to when I want to escape thinking about the current news, the political frights, the pandemic, thoughts of the homeless, the plight of immigrants, the scariest parts of life. This podcast does go to those places in the stories of the great artists covered in each of these pieces. The difference is I know I’ll find intrigue and inspiration instead of fear and frustration.

Alice Winkler has the best podcast, from Judy Collins to Trevor Nunn I find her podcasts very inspiriting, informative and I only wish there were more. Great job!!!!

Personal, thoughtful and honest insight. The voice of the interviewer is as comforting as a morning cup of coffee and allows these people to feel at ease. Especially loved Hank Aaron’s talk!

I enjoy this inspirational podcast series, and I have gained so many valuable life lessons from it. The new Julie Andrews episode is my favorite.

Excellent listening for when you need a bit of a boost to keep you going. It is inspirational to hear stories from people who forged their own successful future out of some of the most difficult and unlikely situations. The interviews are very well put together and gets right to the core of what it takes to overcome the hardships of life, and where the interviewees minds were when they had a breakthrough.

The foundation credited with making what it takes possible is named after/run by a white collar criminal.... A woman who benefited from giving students loans with criminally high interest rates. How they can make this podcast backed by a foundation with a “steal from the poor” philosophy, I do not know. It’s the antithesis of the mentality of the individuals they’re highlighting.

I’m an obsessive listener of podcasts, and I think I can fairly say this one is my favorite. Meticulously told and inspiring, each episode is a treat. Listen for yourself!

I am a twelve year old boy from Maryland. I listen to What It Takes almost every night. My favorite episode is Chuck Jones. Robert Langer made me interested in engineering. Some are favorites are Frank McCourt, Jane Goodall, George Lucas, and Carol Burnett. I recommend the whole series!

Every episode is like sitting to listen at the feet of the greats.
