Ep#94–Jada Coggins- Fmr. Athlete Advocatating for Mental Health Awareness in sport with Sivonnia DeBarros, Protector of Athletes.
Jada Coggins is the Head J.V. Girls Basketball Coach at Pace Academy, Georgia, where she started an AAU team called the AE5 College Park Rimrockers. Her program focuses on education, basketball and mental fortitude.  While in High School Jada earned honorable mention status by the Georgia Sports Writers Association for the Class AAAAA in 2013-14, tabbed to the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s All- Metro Southside Second Team, garnered All Region honors named to the 2015 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings/ESPN Watch list. She was the Lady Wildcats all-time leading scorer and rebounder, scoring 1000 plus points and was the first Lady Wildcat to sign a Division 1 scholarship to Jacksonville State University (JSU). After her sophomore year, due to an injury, she returned home to Georgia State University where she was given the chance to handle some “unfinished business”. She completed an internship with the #1 Hip-Hop radio station in Atlanta, Hot 107.9, and with Georgia State’s Athletic Dept., serving as an in-game social media host. She also assisted as Head Varsity coach at Whitewater during her Junior and senior years in college. After graduating in May of 2019 from Georgia State University, Jada returned to become the sponsored Ford Keys In game host for football games during the Panther’s 2019 season. After her injury at JSU, Jada experienced a lot of emotions that caused her to question her identity. She uses her current position as coach to empower young athletes to find healthy balance in their lives through education, sports and mental health. Jada is a young woman with intense dedication, commitment and resilience. Brett Lorin is a former professional baseball player. He attended University of Arizona for a short while before being drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the fifth round of the 2008 MLB draft. Dionne McCollum is the Athletics Director at Delta College. In this position, she has put a strong focus on the individual development of student-athletes and building relationships with the community. Dionne has increased study hall requirements focusing on academic excellence, brought back the student athlete advisory committee (SAAC), and expanded student-athlete leadership meetings by inviting guest speakers. Prior to arriving at Delta, Dionne served as Assistant Athletic Director for the District of Columbia Public Schools in Washington, DC for five years.  During that time, she oversaw the sports of Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis, and Flag Football. Dionne has also served as a collegiate woman's basketball coach. Beginning her career as the Assistant Coach at NJCAA Division I Pratt Community College for one year. Moving on to NCAA Division II Kentucky State University as Assistant Coach for 3 years, where she assisted in the team’s back-to-back winning seasons. She served as Associate Head Coach at NAIA Division II Marygrove College for two seasons. Completing her coaching career as Assistant Coach at NCAA Division II Elizabeth City State University for 3 years, where she aided in the team finishing with a 24-4 season in 2012-2013 and was the position coach to 2011-2012/2012-2013 All-Conference Player Stephanie Harper. Additionally, she has taught Athletic Injury and Preventions courses as an adjunct professor at Elizabeth City State University and served as a Strength & Conditioning Coach at Academy of Oak Park in Oak Park, MI. Dionne played basketball throughout her academic career, beginning on the NJCAA level at Wayne County Community College District. She completed her basketball career in 2005 at Kentucky State University. She holds a BA in Physical Education from Kentucky State University, an MA in Athletic Training from The University of Findlay and is currently working on her PhD in Sports Leadership and Sports Management from University of Concordia Chicago. Dionne is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.
