Relistening for the third time
I love this show. Every story is so different yet captures humanity and the strangeness, otherworldly nature of life in LA. I don’t think he’s making any more seasons of the show which is extremely disappointing.

Great storytelling
Modern-day California Americana.
I wish every episode of This American Life were this good.

Too many errors
Out of the rotation because of constant errors. For instance, Richard Neutra, not Philip Johnson, designed the church where Robert Schuler preached both to the congregants and a drive-in crowd. This was the predecessor to Johnson’s Crystal Cathedral, which did not have drive-in services. Just sorta sloppy.

I love this podcast
I seriously am getting so sad that I’m almost to the end and there won’t be anymore. I have enjoyed the stories so much and it is so great the way they are told. Amazing storyteller and it makes me think about stuff other than the sh*t weighing so heavily on my mind these days.

Not for me
I’m really into LA stories and I wanted to like this, but I can’t get into it. The Kevin Gage episode was mildly interesting, the Grifters episode really makes the host come off like a jerk, and I was so bored by the episode about the Theremin guy that I didn’t finish it. I get the vibe he’s going for but I don’t think he quite gets there.

ugh
'Pan’s plans’ is the second episode i listened to and boy was it triggering. talk about a narcissist! Trevor spends $18,000 on a project when his peers only had $2000 to work with but we should feel bad for him because now he’s gotten himself into a position where he still has a roof over his head but the hot water’s been shut off? wow…people all over the world have never known what it’s like to take even a lukewarm bath, have never had electricity or a consistent source of food yet you make it seem like Trevor should be pitied. how disappointing and offensive. DO BETTER KCRW!

Love it all
Every episode is great, but I especially love the extremely weird crossover collaboration

Richard who?
I’ve no idea who that Richard guy is, but he’s amazing! I was laughing my lil’ socks off the entire episode. What a star!

Disappointing distraction
I was so excited to hear this podcast and learn some history of L.A. food spots. The overkill of sound effects, lack of actual content, constant cut out to sound bites and unfocused freestyle of the podcast was a bummer. Whack!

Great idea that lost its way
I have really liked your work in the past and having grown up in LA myself I was excited to see where you were going to go with this. The first 2 episodes were remotely interesting but with each week you just seemed to have run out of ideas. However this weeks beginning on Food with Richard was just so annoying, loud and seriously unlistenable. Sorry but done enough is enough, I’m done with this podcast.

Welcome to LA
Beautifully told stories about real people. Wonderful, heartfelt storytelling along with great music. I really love this well produced program. In the podcast world there is a lot to sift through, this one is worth every minute of listening.

Nice ASMR
I have no idea what the point of this podcast is, but the first episode at least is like cracking open a cold beer on a vacation.

Personal stories from the city of angels
If you enjoy personal and intimate stories like This American Life but looking for something that is specific to our city, Los Angeles, this is your podcast. The people we walk by on the street, that hot dog vendor, your neighbor playing his guitar at all hours, they all have stories and this podcast explores that. It is a great way to get to know the more intimate side of this city. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially in a time where we may be feeling distant from each other, this podcast makes me feel closer to my city.

Riveting and true to life in strange and enormous place. Don’t miss this if you have that particular brain + heart combo.

Beauty and Hope in Humanity
There are episodes (ie Grace of the Sea) that I will replay over and over again, learning or hearing something new each time and falling in love again all over.
I don’t write this for you, to try to convince or trick you into listening. No, listener beware! The truth that lies ahead in these stories is not for everyone. If you listen with an open mind and an empathetic heart, you just might feel something.

Dark, cool & fun
Great podcast. Interesting glimpse of LA life for a Midwestern fella. Pan’s Plan is beautiful and tragic. Great storytelling.

Why no stories about women?
Women are basically accessories on this show. It tells stories about men in LA, not stories about people in LA. Super disappointing?? Like...if you only want to write about men, just say that. Don’t act like you’re writing about LA as a whole when you are clearly only interested in half the population. What year is this?

Soulful, lovely, and dark in the right, most human way
...even for a (now) non-resident of Los Angeles

Best podcast I’ve heard
I listen to a lot of podcasts. I think this is the best one I’ve heard. Hard to compare beyond the fact that I didn’t want to listen to anything else and was very bummed when it ended. I hope there will be more.
Edgy, riveting, totally unpretentious, great facts about LA history and geography. More please

Great storytelling... but not more???
I really enjoyed this series. I'm sorry it didn't last very long.

Incredible Storytelling
In a world filled with news and true crime podcasts, this podcast has been the perfect palatte cleanser. It is BEAUTIFUL and compelling storytelling that makes you slow down while you listen. I find the writing so lovely because the host takes a small moment and digs in to the emotions and complexity of human existence.

Great Reporting, Unusual Stories
Tuning into this podcast is like opening a mystery box. The stories are so original and unpredictable in the best way. I love the reporting and storytelling.
Et c'est parti.

Give us another season
Such a great podcast- I lived in LA and know there are more stories to bring us in that amazing narrative style you have... don’t leave us!

Great stories!
David is a great storyteller and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. I think some episodes are slow in parts but hoping it will get better!

Fantastic
This show is amazing! I live Below the Ten and I love this show even more. It’s a perfect microcosm of the strange and fierce energy of Los Angeles. This is a fantastic show and I love it deeply.

Intriguing show - remarkable characters
David offers that rare and quintessential blend of personal-on-the-curb-intimate storytelling, and the soaring big-picture-capture that acutely delivers the daily adventure that is LA. Sit back. Close your eyes. Imagine you’re in a pink retro motel room, observing a wayward film maker dodge a hostile innkeeper banging on the door. Drink in the maze of these characters and stories and David’s own lucid experiences. And enjoy the ride.

Sloppy and Disappointing
Really wanted to like it, but have to say I'm very disappointed in KCRW for letting this one out of the gate. First episode I listened to, "the Grifter" turned out to be a frankly boring story about the author's own narcissistic jugementality. He ackowledges as such, but that still doesn't make up for the 45 minutes I wasted on it. Second episode I tried, "the Recruiter" I could not get through. A sloppily edited pastiche of a life story that turned so gratuitously graphic I finally pulled the plug. I'm no prude, but the narration got ecessively raw, like a shady drunk uncle at a hot afternoon bbq, and was unnessary to the story, such at is was. Sorry, this might've been a decent pitch, but the execution of the podcast just doesn't deliver. There's so much better audio out there. Delete.

LA Confidential meets TMZ
This is the only podcast I listen to right now whose episodes I anticipate with the fervor of a JTT obsessed 1990s 12-year-old awaiting the next Home Improvement. I've listened to The Case of the Missing Sprinkles five times. I love the way David mixes personal insights and pop culture to tell the stories of quirky LA existences.

Rich and Engaging
Finally a public radio podcast that doesn’t sound like another overproduced overly precious and cloying Radiolab knock off. This guy has great topics and storytelling skills and a great use of SILENCE in the edit. Loved every episode thus far.

So glad I found this show!
Love this new series-- each episode is different but all are fascinating and well produced. I look forward to hearing something new each week.

Excellent
I heard the ad for this show on kcrw. It was very interesting. Enjoyed listening to the episodes. My favorite was the grifters.
Great job!

Good show for intro to a certain view of LA
I like the program, it has a noir attitude. The subjects
Of the podcasts are very interesting and the approach is honest. Maybe too honest and a little hokey.

So Far
So far I am enjoying this podcast very much. My favorite story is The Grifter. I love how honest he is about himself and his roles in these real life experiences. On top of that this man tells a great story. Update: yay, a new episode!! 😋

Well done, keep up the great story telling.

The definition of whiteness
The episode of the grifter is mind blowing in how wrong you are. You ruin the couples life simply because they are different from you( peak whiteness). But you don't stop there. Oh no. You go back to try to revictimize them in order for you "journalism". You deserve an award, but not the one you think.
