Denim Day is a campaign in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it.Queens Academy stands in solidarity!

It’s hard to hear it, and even harder to say it. Conversations about rape and sexual assault have always been an uncomfortable topic for people to discuss. Whether it’s someone who has been violated or someone who hasn’t, the word “rape” sets a very devastating tone that creates silence. A silence that needs to be lifted to expose what’s underneath: a violence that has become difficult to describe, unspeakable and unnamed. Listen to two teen Queens define rape, provide safety advice , and share their opinions on the topic.
