We Should Hangout More
Hello! I'm Luis and We Should Hang Out More, you know, because its fun. Basically we're just sitting around talking about stuff, and also, things. Sometimes its funny, sometimes its serious, its always fun though. Lets see where this adventure takes us.
Ted Feighan - Monster Rally
Interview Start: 03:23 Ted Feighan has put out ten albums as Monster Rally, all of them built from samples dug out of thrift store crates. His newest record, Echoes of the Emerald Sands, is the first time he walked away from that entirely and played nearly everything himself. We talk about his years in the Cleveland screamo band Driver Side Impact, including the label showcase at 18 where one missed downbeat almost cost them a record deal, and the conversation where he told his parents he wasn't going to college. He gets into finding Madvillainy in a record store with no idea what it was, buying it purely for the cover art, and how Madlib and the SP-303 rewired everything for him. We also get into building a record entirely through remote collaboration from Cleveland, why fewer options make him a better producer, the Henry Mancini track that Apple Music refuses to believe is legitimate, his collage and album artwork practice going back to a high school house show called Tedapalooza, and the imposter syndrome he says he still feels after twenty plus years of doing this. Monster Rally is on tour this fall with Rumtum, with a companion instrumental album coming early next year. Listen to Monster Rally on Spotify, Apple Music, and everywhere else.
