Spectacular
This guy is the Howard Stern of History. Wickedly smart and funny ! Neal please don’t ever give up even though this s—t is frustrating. You’re really talented, dude.

This podcaster is genuine
Give the podcast a listen. Not only does he bring a “heavy metal” edge to a podcast, he’s genuine. He gave an update to fans about the timing between podcast that was honest and candid - and with an edge. You might have to wait a bit to get an episode, but it’s worth it.

Just a solid history podcast
Neil has the best battle breakdowns, interesting topics and viewer interaction. 5 out of 5 stars, would recommend.

If you’re into history and want a lighter hearted take with generous sarcasm and fun narrative this is for you. Neil, keep on shining you beautiful bastard!

Well Done
I think he sounds like Egon Spangler and maybe that’s the attraction! But either way🤣 he tells a good story! Could he be more…. Story Telly …yes
But when he DOES emote… it’s hysterical so I wouldn’t change a thing! Three outta five stars… IYKYK

Super duper!!!
Love everything - great subjects, research, delivery, etc. Amazing.
On a side note, he blasts loud music before and after, so you can’t listen to it to fall asleep. Which would have been nice.

Well Done
Pleasantly surprised at just how much I’ve been enjoying this excellent podcast. Outstanding job by Mr. Eckart in presenting his material in an informative & sometimes humorous manner, as if talking to a group of friends. Anyone who dislikes this podcast & gives it a negative review probably also believes ridiculous things such as there are more than two genders & that Epstein killed himself.

Great show with a quirky host
Neil does a great job of bringing these old stories to life - lots of podcasts get bogged down in minutiae, but this one keeps the story rolling without getting lost in the weeds. It’s been fun to watch the podcast get to the point it’s at. Thanks for the great show!

One of my go to podcasts!
I love this show! He brings a fresh perspective to the world a history podcasts, some great color commentary, and an awesome sense of humor. I’ve listed to all of Mike Duncan, most of Dan Carlin, and parts of several other history podcasts. This one is right up there with the best!

The next Dan Carlin???
Just started listening a few months ago and I haven’t stopped. I enjoy his views and work out in to be accurate. Keep up the great work! Dan would be proud.

It’s good
Good podcast, plenty of facts along with jokes and fresh insight. Not so much Dan Carlin, more like a rock n roll version of Mike Duncan.
Sweet ears
Canceled
I was listening and enjoying this podcast until he decided to start playing some godawful music. I mean it's a major distraction. So, that's it and I'm dumping this podcast. Too bad, because I really enjoyed the early episodes. Egos....

Bounteous
I broadcasted Neils bounteous, juicy voice to my 1st grade class and they love it. At this point it just entirely replaces my history lessons. Yesterday, one of my students came in with a 69 page thesis on the socioeconomic ramifications of Alexander’s reforms in Susa, all thanks to this podcast. We just got to the start of the Crazy Neil arc in our chronological listen, and today I’m having my students draw their best version of Crazy Neil smuggling Cleopatra into Caesars room in a carpet. Amazing stuff.
P.S. love the music

One of those rare entertaining and informative podcasts. Sweet music selections too!

Great success!
I’m specifically writing a review after listening to the season 9 review - where Neil eviscerates some guy, by name, for leaving a bad review after getting his panties in a wad. I about died from laughter.
Neil is hilarious and I really enjoy the sarcasm, dark humor, and pop culture references he sprinkles into the narratives. If you’re a borderline sociopath with a love of history, this is your home now and you should donate to Neil on Patreon.

Awesome show
Found this podcast on Spotify while looking for history podcast and figured I could listen a little then fall asleep. 5 hours later and loving. Huge fan of the Ottoman Empire and the series on the Balkan Wars and the Fall of Constantinople are great. Music into is great. Feels like instead of just listening to a guy talk it feels like your having a conversation with him. Highly recommend

Foot fungus
If you’ve ever looked at the guy cutting your grass and said I bet he can teach me about history, then this show is for you. Thanks to Neil, I now ask my lawn care engineers philosophical and historical questions.
In the beginning, the show is like foot fungus. It stinks a little bit, but you feel you need to scratch it. Just can’t quite get rid of it. It just never goes away. So you just embrace life as the guy with foot fungus.
I often feel depressed after listening to Carlin, Borelli or Cooper. Not so with W&C, it’s hilarious and entertaining. Neil often jokes and laughs about horrendous happenings. “Carl ripped out their eyes, lol”. This is endearing and I must confess it’s Neil’s moderate psychopathic thoughts that make me feel like a better person.
I’d recommend listening as soon as possible, I expect the show to be taken down at anytime for copyright violations or because Neil practically dares the feds to make him disappear.

War and Conquest
Neil says a bunch of stuff in the early episodes about audio and recording quality. But I don’t see a real problem. I like the pacing and the rawness. Also his presentation and research are excellent. I was going to skip the shows about Alexander the Great but am glad I didn’t. He brings out alot of new details that are entertaining and informative.

Amazing

Glad Timesuck brought me here
Great info, started from the beginning and as a history buff I love a great story. Details are well presented, like every podcast the host progressively gets better in his episodes with his presentation of material.

Great podcast
Among the millions of amateur podcasts, this one stands out because of the host’s passion and depth of research. A well done podcast on a variety of topics within the subject of military history. A nice change from other overproduced and too-professional podcasts with dry narration and disinterested hosts. This guy clearly enjoys his subject matter and it shows. 5 stars for standing out from the (enormous) crowd. Well worth the $

I Had to Change My Rating Again
Neil has ranted about my old rating in an opening, and I frankly still have some reservations about his more immature antics. I don’t think he’s necessarily learned anything, but I definitely see a guy growing up here. He deserves to have the rating bumped up a ways. I’m hoping after the last interview episode we’re seeing a guy who has fully grown into a podcaster able to balance irreverent humor with empathy for the real humans who lived the stories he tells. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt with this rating.

History can be fun
This is a very enjoyable podcast, and most light-hearted history podcast I have come across. The facts are there, delivered within good storytelling, with quite a bit of humor on the side. Great job, Neil, please keep it up.

The Thucydides of our time - but more entertaining.
Mr. Eckart does a splendid job presenting military history. He has a fine style and wit; he makes history alive and meaningful - and jolly good fun! I am glad to have found his podcast.

History for fast living
This is a fun show that doesn’t take it self to seriously. It does take history serious. Great knowledge but some over the top living life story’s. You also get drink recipes. I look forward to it every week. It’s a break in this crazy world.

Awesome podcast!
Season One has been withdrawn by Neil. ( He says it is too amateurish, in terms of its production values. ) I just discovered this podcast today. This despite the fact that I have been searching for podcasts like this one for some months. Apple needs to make its podcasts more readily available; it takes too long to find podcasts that I like.
I am up to Season Two, Episode two. Neil claims that Season Two is also amateurish, compared to what he is producing now. ( Again, in terms of production values. )
I say: wow! War and Conquest is an awesome podcast. Neil is a superb announcer. He presents his material in a highly understandable way. I highly recommend War and Conquest, based on what little I’ve been able to hear so far. Thank you, Neil.

My 2 Cents
I discovered this podcast on Spotify a few weeks ago and binged literally everything Neil has posted. I find every episode, even his ramblings and tangents, entering and informative. I love his 1-liner quotes such as “Gaul is pacified” and “They (the Saxons) will not fear God, then they shall fear his servant, Charlemagne”.
Neil doesn’t sugarcoat his words and I respect a man who does that. I wasn't paid to say any of this I truly love this pod cast.
I listened to Mike Duncan’s The History of Rome 4-5 times and found WarAndConquest through that and I am glad i did.

History is fun again
I’ve been listening to War and Conquest for months as my primary history podcast and after endless nagging from Neil I figure it’s time I write a review. I took the advice from future Neil and skipped the Macedon episodes and jumped right into the crusades (this is not completely true; I tried an episode and had to eject after about 10 minutes because it’s all sorts of bad). I really enjoyed the Crusades, the Gallic wars and just finished Caesar’s Revolt, and am truly impressed with Neil’s delivery. He doesn’t read a script like some other History Podcasters. He just sort of tells the story in layman’s terms like it’s no big deal, all while adding humor and insightful comments. The editing is hilarious as Neil often will leave in his mistakes and we get to hear his inside voice berating himself for making the mistake. Neil is clearly a very smart guy but you wouldn’t know it based on some of his occupational choices of Landscaper and occasional work vehicle thief (you have to listen to get that last one). Regardless previous poor life choices ;) Neil and War and Conquest is one of, if not the best history Podcasts I’ve listened to. He has a knack for making the stories concise but hitting all the details you need to really understand and enjoy the story. I hope Neil keeps Podcasting and his listener base blows up because this guy deserves it. Call it a hidden gem if you will but hopefully it won’t be hidden for much longer. Thank you Neil for making history fun again. I’m off to listen to the rise of Octavian and get my daily dose of Metal.

Solid History delivered unconventionally
Neil is funny, possibly crazy. If you only listen to one or two episodes you’ll miss the schtick. He has the research and sources, and presents it in a self deprecating way - without hubris or ego. He also makes no effort to find an obscure princess who history didn’t give her due because of sexism - as all other history podcasters do. Just straight up history.
