Too long
Episode 2 is a complete throw away episode. Doesn’t really get into the meat of the series until episode 4. Kind of repetitive.

Fun and uplifting
Waiting for Impact is such a great podcast. One of my favorites! It’s fun and the ending message is very inspiring and uplifting.

This is great but Dave should speak to his actual audience
Trying to explain to Generation Y what life was like before always-on, mobile connectivity is pointless because the only people who are listening to this podcast are Gen Xers who lived every minute of this anyway. Talk to your people, Dave. The kids do not care about any of this.

I remember the same clip on Motown Philly!

Love this series!
Absolutely loved this podcast! Dave’s storytelling and wit make these episodes fly by. I didn’t want it to end. I wish he would do more like it or even a sequel. Would love to find something similar to get me through work days!

Excellent Listen
Really enjoyed this podcast. As expected, Dave approached this with his intense focus and generous heart. It’s a fun ride with surprises along the way.

Funny, interesting, and sweet
A deep dive into a group that made a brief appearance in a Boyz II Men video? Right up my alley! And if you are a child of the 90s or a lover of pop culture, it should be just your thing too. Dave Holmes is a smart, hilarious, and talented writer (in addition to being my vote in the 1998 Wannabe a VJ contest), and I love his storytelling style in this podcast. I will happily re-visit any overlooked piece of 90s pop culture any time with Dave Holmes, and I hope he has plans to explore much more.

Dave Holmes Is An Icon
Every Dave Holmes project that I’ve seen or heard is excellently crafted, and this podcast is no different! Every episode is interesting because Dave is so interested; each guest is fun and without guile, which is fertile ground for Dave’s curiosity. Thanks for such a fun time!

Outstanding
Yes, this podcast answers the questions about who were those guys and what happened, but it’s so much more. Dave Holmes examines success and failure, the music industry in the 1990s, “taking big swings” and so much more. Especially for anyone who likes to create stuff, this podcast is a must-listen.

Nostalgia and Music Education Combined
If you like Heavyweights, you will LOVE THIS! If you lived through the 90s, you will LOVE THIS! I didn’t want it to end. Feel good and relatable. Listen now.

One of the best I’ve heard
I went into this podcast with mild expectations of re-living some great early 90s memories. What I got was a masterclass in storytelling, all based around a pop group that no one had ever really heard of. The degree of difficulty in making people care about something that by definition didn’t matter - is astounding. One small regret - it would have been a perfect ending to hear from Bivins in the last episode. As a big BBD fan, it would have been awesome to hear his take on the whole thing. In any case, a big shout out to the team that put this pod together - such inspiring work!!!

This podcast will change your life for the better
It may seem like this podcast is about an obscure boy band from the 90s…but I promise you it is much MUCH more than that. As an artist, I really resonated with the message to go out and do what you love no matter how niche or obscure. I’m at a crossroads in my creative career and this podcast helped me SO MUCH. Artists are often reaching for more fame and fortune because society tells us that’s what makes an artist successful. Dave Holmes and his guests know that’s simply not true. Children of the 80s and 90s will love it for the nostalgia and everyone will love it for its frank discussion of fame.

Treat Yourself!
This series is EXCELLENT. I was 11 in 1991 and thanks to my older sister, got every reference. Hilarious storytelling and such a great saga.

Just one thing…
If I never have to listen to an interview with Aaron Kane again, it would still be too soon. Ruined two episodes for me.

Listening to this was a joy.
Just world-class storytelling. Beautiful!

Good Stuff!
Interesting blast from the past! Unexpected interviews that sort of seemed unrelated at times and then looped right in with messages of hope and resilience. Worth a listen for sure!

Nice but...
Dave is a great host and I hope he does more podcasts. This was a wonderful idea for a story however it felt as if he had enough material for 4 podcasts and stretched it out to 10 by interviewing random folks and telling their life stories even if they weren’t too related to the main quest. And the last episode didn’t give us much more info than the third or forth. Felt like he had beaten the game but played for a few hours afterwards anyway.

Super fantastic!
What a piece of…craftsmanship! A must (binge) listen! Whole heartedly endorse on so many different levels - nostalgia, inspiration, story telling even historically. A poddy extremely well done! What’s next bro???

Glad Dave Holmes did this :)
This was a fun and well-produced podcast/walk down memory lane for early 90s and 2000s. Sorry Margaret Cho - love you girl!

A great reflection on 90’s music and culture
Nostalgic and uplifting. A great retelling of a time and one of those cases of “If this was a movie no one would believe it.”

Beautiful meditation on failure
Beautiful meditation on flourishing after failure. Uplifting and thoughtful. An antidote to hustle culture.

Amazing
This podcast is really great! I loved every minute of it and the passion behind investigating such a specific moment in music history, and finding the story of hope and perseverance behind it really has helped me maintain optimism as I am trying to pursue a career in entertainment. Exactly what I needed to hear!

Just listen to it
I’ll generally read/watch/listen to any non-fiction with passion behind it. I was sold on the concept and was still blown away. This is one of my favorite podcasts ever. There’s passion oozing out of it and Dave Holmes totally understands the assignment. Take a story, give it context, and tell us why we should care. This is an inspirational podcast everyone should listen to as it really focuses on life happening and defining or redefining success and failure. I hope Dave Holmes has more projects on the fire because I will be first in line.

SO. Good.
I started listening because I’m always interested in revisiting and reminiscing about the 90’s (and 90’s music). But this show was so much more inspirational than I expected. I took a lot of great nuggets of wisdom from this. Really enjoyable podcast & surprisingly relatable.

Delight with a side of inspiration
I had no idea who Sudden Impact was before I listened to Dave Holmes' DELIGHTFUL passion project. I loved this podcast way more than I thought I would (no murder). Dave is a masterful storyteller who will make you care about 5 white guys more than you ever thought possible or even necessary. Every ep. is better than the last....I don't even want to get into the themes becuase it's so much better to discover along the way.

Fun nostalgic show
Very fun run through the 90s. The host is such an obvious fan. Really fun to listen to. Really fun to remember stuff and learn stuff you had no idea was even happening in the 90s even though you were there. Great show. Really interesting interviews. I do have no memory of the sudden impact even though I think I saw the Motownphilly video 1000 times. This podcast is a fun trip.

Even if you don’t remember the early 90s
Worth the listen! Even better than I imagined, and I learned a lot about the culture I missed as a toddler. A fascinating, well-told story, and superbly produced.

Suddenly Impacted
As a 90s baby who grew up right at the tail end of this time period, getting to hear all of this music history was fascinating and fun. As a musical theatre major who has been trying and failing to make her mark for the last 4 years through NYC auditions and Covid closures this show struck my soul. It told me things I never knew I needed to hear and has helped me keep going. I think this will be a show that I will come back and listen to whenever times are hard, because sometimes what you need to hear is a bunch of people telling you to be boldly yourself. This show reminded me of something that I find myself often forgetting, which is, it might not work out how you plan but in one way or another it will work out. Take big swings everybody!

Not what I expected; everything I needed.
In 1991 I was 8 years old and obsessed with music, dancing and MTV. This podcast brought back such nostalgia from that time. I was much too young to be so entrenched in some of the music I was listening to and videos I was watching, but it was the 90s, if you know you know. I loved this podcast because it sheds light on the business and what some of us music nerds never came to realize. Now I can’t stop wondering what musical gems are sitting dusty on a shelf somewhere.
