Smart Dogs Eat Low Carb
Hi there dog lovers!  I’m excited to be chatting with Paul Raybould – Founder & CEO, of Visionary Keto Pet Foods and President & CEO of KetoPet Sanctuary.  Paul has spent the second half of his career making the world a better place for animals. The last 5 years he has focused on improving the quality and longevity of life for dogs. Can you start by filling us in on what the KetoPet Sanctuary is? The ketogenic diet is widely talked about for human health, but you say that dogs benefit as well.  What exactly is a ketogenic diet? Many might think that this is a new way of eating, but it really isn’t, right? So, to get fully into ketosis, a dog would usually need more fat and less protein in his diet? And what do the studies show regarding a keto diet and the effect on cancer cells? What is the recommended ratio of fat to protein by weight (not calories) for dogs with cancer?  How about the ratio for healthy dogs? Are there some dogs that might not be able to digest or tolerate a high-fat diet? What are some of the benefits? Is it true that because energy production from ketones is cleaner than glucose, that there are less free radicals in the body? What are the side effects of a keto diet? What about the benefits shown by adding fruits and veggies to a dog’s diet?  Those have carbs. Do you recommend that puppies start off on a keto diet or is it better to wait until they are older? Do you think that dogs should continuously be fed a keto diet or is it best to maybe cycle in and out of ketosis? Why did you start Visionary Pet? If processing of most kibble needs starch to bind, how are you able to process your dry food? What are the ingredients? How does the price compare to the usual dry foods out there?  Is it affordable, especially for those who have large dogs or multiple dogs? Success stories? OFFER: USE THE CODE WOL15 FOR 15% OFF YOUR FIRST ORDER AT VISIONARYPET.COM (FOR THE US ONLY) Paul, where can everyone find out more information about you, Visionary Keto Pet Foods and the KetoPet Sanctuary? https://visionarypet.com/ https://www.ketopetsanctuary.com/ We appreciate our sponsor: Visionary Keto Pet Foods As a Wag out Loud listener you can use code WOL15 at checkout to get 15% off your first purchase (for the US only)! New Dog, No Stress
Welcome dog lovers!  Today I’m chatting with Cory Turner who is the Co-Founder of Dogly.com which she started with her mom Jane and 4 rescue dogs. Cory & Jane started Dogly because they believe having a dog should be the best experience ever but they were constantly wondering if they were making the right decisions for their own dogs and stressing over questions like “why does Bozley bark at big dogs” or "what can we do to support Houzton's doxie back and joints early on." That's why they started Dogly, to help pet parents worry less by vetting & bringing together a community of trainers, nutritionists, and other wellness advocates so pet parents can join their community and shop recommended products all in one place.  Bringing a new dog into your home does require some planning.  What are things that we should prepare for? What’s the best way to get a dog used to their new surroundings so as to reduce the stress for you and them? Would you recommend adding calming aids such as CBD, essential oils, rescue remedy? Give them freedom to roam the house or start off in certain area? Crate train? Introduce them to other pets in the house or keep them separated in the beginning? I assume that sticking to a routine would be crucial, especially in the beginning? How do shelters work?  Do most euthanize if dogs aren’t adopted?  How long is that window usually? Do some shelters that have purebreds automatically give them to rescue groups?  How does that work? Let’s talk about fostering.  It must take a special person to foster and I’ve heard so many stories of foster fail dogs.  How can you not become attached? Why might a dog need foster care? OFFER: USE CODE WOL FOR THE FIRST MONTH FREE TO THE NEW ADVOCATE COMMUNITY at https://dogly.com/community Cory, where can everyone find out more information about you and Dogly? https://dogly.com/ Social Media: FB: @beingdogly IG: @dogly_ We appreciate our sponsor: BARK YOURS Thanks for Listening! It Takes Guts For A Dog To Be Healthy
Hi Dog Lovers!  I’ve really been looking forward to having today’s guest on the show.  With me is Dr. Holly Ganz, PhD, who is the Chief Science Officer and co-founder of AnimalBiome, a biotech company that provides microbiome testing to assess gut health and oral supplements to restore key beneficial microbes in cats and dogs.  Holly studied microbes associated with animals at UC Davis and UC Berkeley and her efforts to translate her research into solutions for dogs began five years ago when she found that imbalances in the canine gut microbiome are common and there is a pressing need for better approaches to maintain and restore gut health. Why are you so passionate about gut health and the science behind it? Do we have a pretty good handle on it or are we just scratching the surface and there’s lots more to learn? How does the microbiome of the dog differ from that of humans?  Let’s start with the imbalances that you are finding in the canine gut microbiome.  Can you talk about the different strains of bacteria and what the perfect mix would be? Are the imbalances directly related to a dog’s diet or are there other factors? What are some signs of a dog with an unhealthy microbiome? In your opinion, what percentage of dogs actually have a healthy gut? How do we get healthy bacteria into our dogs?  Is it through supplementation or what are the best fresh foods to feed? I watched a story on the news that when taking most probiotics, very few live stains actually make it to the gut.  What are your thoughts? Holly, are Winston’s results pretty typical in that most dogs do not have a healthy microbiome? Can you walk through your Microbiome Test and the entire process? What is unique about your Gut Health Restoration Supplement? Your opinion on fecal transplants? What are things that we as pet parents can do to support our dog’s gut health? Holly,  I know that when we last chatted that you mentioned clinical trial that you'll be doing with dogs with IBD.  Has that started? OFFER: Use code WAGOUTLOUD-20 FOR 20% OFF OF YOUR FIRST PURCHASE at https://www.animalbiome.com/ Holly, where can everyone find out more information about you and AnimalBiome? https://www.animalbiome.com/ email:  team@animalbiome.com Social Media: FB @animalbiome IG @animal.biome We appreciate our sponsor: ALPHA PAW Use discount code WOL for 20% off your entire purchase! Which Daycare Would Your Dog Pick?
Susan Briggs is a Certified Professional Animal Care Operator, author, speaker, and pet business expert. She brings over 18 years of experience in the pet industry with 12 years as co-owner and operator of a successful dog daycare, lodging, grooming and training business in Houston, Texas. As founders of The Dog Gurus, Susan and Robin Bennett are the authors of Off-Leash Dog Play… A Complete Guide to Safety and Fun, and an extensive staff training program called, Knowing Dogs, which are the leading staff training resources for dog daycare and boarding facilities. Their mission is helping pet care professionals get their lives back by showing them how to create sustainable businesses with teams that truly know dogs. When would daycare be a good option for a dog vs hiring a dog walker? Susan, for some, choosing a daycare can be stressful, almost like selecting a preschool for their kids.  What are some things to consider when making this important decision? The daycare industry is pretty much unregulated right?  So, not all daycares are created equal?  Are there some good questions to ask the facility? How can you tell if your dog actually likes the doggy daycare experience? What is the typical cost of a good daycare? Susan, where can everyone find out more information about you and the Dog Gurus? https://thedoggurus.com/ FB & IG: @thedoggurus   We appreciate our sponsor: Let’s Go Design Thanks for Listening! The Chemical State of Dog Food
Hello Dog Lovers!  This promises to be another amazing episode!  I am a huge fan of Dr. Katie Kangas and I’m sure you’ll agree.  She’s just a wealth of knowledge!  Dr. Kangas owns and operates Integrative Veterinary Care, a private practice in San Diego, California, offering holistic and integrative health care options for pets.  Her areas of special interest include nutrition, functional medicine, dental health, and pain management.  Dr. Kangas has authored several articles published in veterinary journals and pet magazines, and shares her passion for pet wellness education by lecturing and presenting locally, nationally and internationally. Dr. Kangas is specifically going to explain how glyphosate is affecting not only us, but our dogs. Why don’t you start with an overview of what glyphosate is why it’s so toxic. I get why GMO foods would have high levels of glyphosate, but I understand that the non GMO foods have even higher amounts?  Can you explain? What is glyphosate actually doing to our dogs’ bodies? You’ve used the term that our dogs are becoming “toxic sponges” and are exposed to glyphosate even more than we are.  Please elaborate. I know that you’ve written articles about glyphosate’s reactivity to gluten.  Can you share your findings? In addition to how our food is grown, is the way it’s cooked and processed.  How does cooking or processing lead to toxicity? Can you give us the stats on the glyphosate/antibiotics found in food animals? What is the impact of the diet choices we’re feeding our dogs? What diseases in dogs are on the rise that you believe have a direct link to glyphosate?  You recommend that we all get our dogs tested for glyphosate levels? HRI has done glyphosate testing on dogs.  What were some of the findings? What foods have the highest amounts? What about treats? What about feeding organic? What are some of the solutions? Dr. Katie, where can everyone find out more information about you and Integrative Veterinary Care? https://www.intvetcare.com/ on FB: @integrative veterinary care Dr. Kangas mentioned: HRI Labs Use the code WOL to receive 10% off of your order Dr. Zach Bush’s ION Gut Health for Pets & ION Biome for People We appreciate our sponsor: Visionary Keto Pet Foods As a Wag out Loud listener you can use code WOL15 at checkout to get 15% off your first purchase! CBD For Dogs: Healing or Hype?
Welcome Dog Lovers!  We have a great guest AND great topic in store for us today.  With me is Trey Bonvillain (bon-vil-an), who heads up production and distribution for ABSC Organics, a veterinary CBD company founded in 2016 to research the benefits of CBD for pets.  ABSC Pure Organic CBD Oil™ is the only CBD oil for pets that has completed a Phase One Safety trial and three Phase Two efficacy trials for epilepsy and arthritis.  What is CBD? What kinds of conditions can CBD help with? Why is CBD oil for pets more expensive than CBD oil for humans?  I think cost may play into why a lot of people will purchase human brands instead. But is this really necessary and is it safe? What’s the difference between hemp, marijuana and CBD? And how about the difference between isolate and full spectrum products? Dosing? What are the questions we should be asking before buying a CBD product for our dogs? What is a C of A? I would think that most manufacturers are buying their CBD from third party companies and really don’t have control over the growing, harvesting, extracting, etc. so do they really know for sure what’s in their own products? Is there anything that you’d like to mention regarding the trials that you’ve been involved with? Any closing thoughts on how we can be smarter when purchasing CBD for our dogs? Trey, where can everyone find out more information about you and ABSC Organics? Raw Feeding Overwhelm
Hi dog lovers!  Welcome to another great show!  Today’s guest, Lisa Ayoette (eye – it), is the owner & creator of Soul'y raw. Lisa started home preparing a raw diet for one very special bulldog with chronic food related illnesses and after seeing the success in her own dog, she quickly realized this was something all dogs and cats needed and from there Soul'y raw was born in 2009.  Family owned and operated for over 10 years, Soul'y Raw now hand makes and processes over 60 products for both dogs and cats using the highest quality ingredients available on the market. Lisa, why don’t we start with what were you feeding your little bulldog before you switched to raw. Once you switched, what changes did you see? Why did you start the company?  Were there not any others offering the same quality products? Isn’t it hard to figure out what and how much to feed to make sure their dog is getting all of the correct nutrients and in the right proportions?  Like calcium and phosphorus that are so important. How much muscle meat, organs and bone should be fed as part of a raw diet? Is there a way to feed a complete and balanced raw diet on a budget? Where to start and how to transition? Why do you have single protein products? Where do you source your meat from and why is that so important? Can’t I just go to my local grocer and buy raw meat there? When feeding raw, do we need to supplement? How do you get recommended from vets?  Where to find recipes/formulations? Lisa, where can everyone find out more information about you and Soul’y Raw? www.soulyraw.com SPECIAL OFFER: Use code WOL10 to receive 10% off eat@soulyraw.com  for questions about feeding raw, finding other suppliers, etc Social Media:  FB or IG:  @soulyraw Resources Lisa mentioned:  https://primalpooch.com/ https://www.socalrawfeddogs.com/ We appreciate our sponsor: BowWowLabs As a Wag out Loud listener you can use code WOL5 at checkout to get 5% off your purchase! Leaves, Roots & Shoots: The Value of Veg for Dogs
Hello Dog Lovers!  I have so been looking forward to this interview!  With us is Dr. Sue Armstrong, who is an integrative veterinary surgeon working in her referral practice in Yorkshire, England.  She is the founder of The True Animal Plan, an online education program for animal owners and author of two books:  Cancer in Animals: What is to be Cured and The Little Book of Thinking Dog There are people, especially those hard-core raw feeders who think feeding vegetable matter is not necessary.  Why do you think it’s so important to feed our dogs vegetables? What benefits do dogs get from plant fiber? If a dog eats grass do you believe that they are looking for certain nutrients found only in plant matter? Can you run through the simple hierarchy of vegetables to feed and what to avoid? You say to think rainbow? Is it best to use whatever vegetables are in season? Ideally how much of the diet should be vegetables? Some people might think that they have to feed veggies everyday?  I think you said before to think in two-week chunks of time.  Can you elaborate? You say that we should focus on the quality and not the quantity of the food that we are feeding.  Can you explain? Can you explain why dogs can’t digest the starches in whole veggies?  Like if I gave my dog a raw carrot or green bean and it comes out whole on the other end… Raw or cooked?  What’s the best way to prepare veggies for your dog? Thoughts on Fermented vegetables? Do we need to be feeding organic only or are there some veggies that don’t have to be organic? Do you want to mention anything about feeding fruits? What are your thoughts on the green supplement powders on the market? Dr. Armstrong, where can everyone find out more information about you and The True Animal Plan? https://www.thetrueanimalplan.com/ Social Media: FB @thetrueanimalplan IG @trueanimalplan We appreciate our sponsor: ABSC Organics Use the code WAG15 to receive 15% off your first order!
