As 2022 comes to an end, we still don't know if "Avatar: The Way of The Water" will recoup its original budget. This seemed like a great opportunity to revisit another Water-based production. A title that's synonymous with infamous and troubled productions. I'm talking about the  Kevin Costner vehicle, Waterworld. Released in the summer of 95, it was the most expensive blockbuster ever produced at the time, costing a whopping $175m. Trashed by critics and dubbed as "mad max with jet skis", the movie was deemed a box office bomb. However, I feel that there's not enough love and attention whenever the three sequels are mentioned. It's that time of the year again: the end of another award season that culminates with the 94th Academy Awards. I'm joined by my good friend Duarte Mendonça to review the movies that made 2021, evaluate the nominees, including surprises and snubs, across 8 major categories in one of the quietest Oscar races in years. We also discussed the relevance and importance of the Oscars in a landscape that continues to shift towards both international movies and with an increased focus on global film festivals such as Venice and Cannes and the role of the superhero blockbuster in the post-Covid big screen recovery.

John Carpenter just turned 74 and what a better way to celebrate his birthday than to revisit his work as both a director and a composer. David from The Vinyl Score is this episode's guest. Together we will revisit 20+ years of rich filmography and music that put Carpenter on the director's pantheon of excellence. We also took on a little creative challenge: We listened to all three "Lost Themes" albums, containing original non-soundtrack scores, and came up with movies that Carpenter could have directed.
