This episode we welcome Justin Beahm (producer, editor, director, writer, and musician) to help celebrate a perfect movie for spooky season. Halloween 2 (2009) is director Rob Zombie's follow up to his original re-envisioning of Halloween. Beloved character's names might remain but this retelling has all its own ideas and mechanizations that make these truly bold and unique movies. We get into many of the wonderful details and hope that if you are someone who bumped up against it initially, that you will perhaps give it another chance and see all of its strengths. We certainly do!

We kick off season 26 of V H US with a seriously under-seen and under-celebrated horror, sci-fi, action, comedy. Alien Space Avenger follows 4 aliens on the run who crash land on Earth in the 1930's. So they do what any smart alien species would do, they hijak human bodies! Unfortunately for them, another alien is hot on their heels so they lay dormant 50 years. Then we meet a comic book artist and look, I don't want to spoil anything for you but this movie is a good time! Our guests are Mike White (The Projection Booth Podcast & The Podcast Of Power among others...) and Zak Koonce (Zak's Planet Of Garbage and Auralnauts.) Two humans who aren't alien to a good time. So put on your favorite vintage clothes and enjoy this start to another season of V H US!

We end this season with one of our rare interviews. This time with a wonderful human which has been celebrated in a number of our episodes. Jennifer Rubin is an actor, producer, model, screen writer, and now director! Jennifer's directorial debut "Them Public Romantics" (link in notes) is an engrossing and unflinching look at a small group of people living on the street outside of her apartment. Shot Cinéma Vérite style, it tells a story of loss, misplacement, the struggles of mental health, and ultimately love taking unexpected shapes. We discuss this movie as well as some of host Dirk's favorite moments from Jennifer's filmography. Quite a celebratory way to end season 25. That's right! It is time for another Godfrey Ho movie discussion. Our guest is a film critic, essayist, and soon to be novelist-Rob Hunter! Rob is a fan of the "Girls With Guns" sub-genre which makes him the perfect person to join Dirk for this Ho-down! Princess Madam aka Iron Angels 4 stars Moon Lee & Sharon Yeung as Mona and Lisa. Two cops who must protect an informant against an evil investor. What ensues? So many explosions and some cocaine in a place that is quite surprising. So dive into this episode and let's kick some broken glass!

We are calling it! Fall is here and it is time to get contemplative and watch movies with maybe less exploding motorcycles. Maybe not the entire fall but right now we are joined by John Arminio of the Popcorn Eschaton Podcast and Annalisa of Low Brow Antics to witness Has Wojciech's The Hourglass Sanitorium (1973.) A film which can feel cold and distant but if you begin to ruffle its feathers, it can unfurl in ways that will have you returning to it again and again. I can honestly say that it has not left my mind since rewatching it. A true masterpiece of Polish cinema and one definitely deserving of more eyes. So please board the train with us as we head to The Hourglass Sanitorium!

That's right! You asked for it so we flipped it! We called in Ryan Gowland ( The New World Pictures Podcast) to host the show (the only time this has ever happened) and your regular host (me) is in the hot seat. I think you will find that not only is Ryan a fantastic host but his incredible writing is also highlighted here. This format is very structured and writing heavy. As the host you have to lead people into the odd format and then showcase bonkers elements for each year. Ryan does so quite effortlessly and I think this episode is a great example of one of his many strengths. Sure he is a strong host on NWPP with assured research capabilities but he is also an accomplished performer who can take that information and communicate it in an informative AND entertaining way. He has written for the Physical Media Advocate and contributed to the Sorority House Massacre blu-ray to name a few of his efforts but I suspect we will see more from him by way of essays and more as more people realize his talents. Sure, here he is a friend stepping in to host and I am so thankful to have him lead this episode but I also couldn't help but be impressed. Ryan rules and this episode is about the movies I saw as a teen. Why are you still reading this? Just listen to it and go support New World Pictures Podcast!
