I used to like this podcast, but not much anymore. Jason is a reasonably smart guy, but he sure is prickly and thin-skinned. He loves to talk about folks who don’t like him and, more importantly, question him, and how he enjoys blocking them (no one cares). Myke is insufferable. Jason has the background and credibility to say what he does about Apple and tech. Myke? Who is this guy? He usually just parrots other options he’s read (and includes the word “Right?” constantly, which shows he doesn’t really know what he’s talking about). Both these guys also love talking about themselves, like anyone cares how often Jason goes curling or what their kids are up to. Oh, and the ads are horrible.

While i’m all for calling out Apple over hypocritical practices, the hosts’ eagerness to ban Grok over its admittedly disgusting content is reprehensible. Have your political views overshadowed your interest in keeping the Internet open? By your logic, every social media network should be shut down, along with much of the rest of the web. You’re on the UK’s side on this? Because they’re banning the things you don’t like? Do you think you and the rest of us will end up in a better place if all governments follow their lead?

Jason and Myke are just now humiliating themselves because they have nothing interesting to share. First they had two short 30 seconds ads in 2010s now have more of them and much longer ads, back then they just had one show behind their paywall, now they have many shows and they have overtime and they want you to pay for that, they want you buy their overpriced merch, this business is not going to last much longer. Just stop wasting everyone's time and accept that you don't have anything intellectual to say and no one cares

These guys are pretentious and out of touch, with poor takes. Especially the American, the Brit is slightly more tolerable. Every time I give them another try, I regret it by the end of the first episode. Listen to ATP or something else.

There are a lot if ads. I mean a ton of ads. I don’t rate podcast I listen to poorly unless the ads are invasive and cumbersome. I get it there is an ad free subscription but every mid YouTuber and podcaster has a subscription it’s a solution and is lazy. People aren’t going to subscribe to a podcast on top of everything else. Get a few high value reads instead of just accepting everything and shoehorning it in. It’s really bad in this state fellas. Hated to do this but it’s too many unnecessary interruptions. I hope this feedback helps and hopefully I can change this to a 5 star.

Why does so much political opinion have to be in a tech podcast? Sure, some topics require current politics, but they refuse to acknowledge both sides of an argument and mainly spew their opinion instead of being unbiased. Weeks with no politics are great, weeks with it aren’t.

Myke is insufferable and getting worse over time. His pretentiousness seems to scale with the ridiculousness of his beard. Unsub’d.

I’ve been listening to Upgrade since the early days, and it’s remained the first podcast I listen to each week. It sets the tone for my tech news consumption, especially around Apple, and often shapes the way I hear and think about topics on other shows. Jason and Myke have a great dynamic, balancing thoughtful analysis with humor and perspective. It’s more than just a tech show—it’s become a key part of how I follow the Apple ecosystem and the broader world of technology.

They are now out of their depths in the more complex world we find ourselves in. I’d enjoy my pop corn watching their business disappear alongside their glee of Apple’s downfall.

Worth listening to stay up to date on the Apple Tech world with good insights.

A great source of tech info and things that directly affect tech in our lives. Diverse and open conversation is important and very much valued. Appreciate the range of hosts and guest and now hiding opinion to those that wish to censor and edit the world only to their narrow view.

Thanks to its two hosts, Myke Hurley and Jason Snell, this is podcast (Upgrade) has now degenerated into a wokefest of anti-American and anti-Trump rants and tirades, especially from the extremely smug and, ironically, non-American Hurley (British native and resident). If you’re looking for an escape from political subject matter and discourse, no matter which side of the aisle you sit on, AVOID this podcast altogether! There are plenty of great tech podcasts available that discuss tech content without interjecting politics into all of it. Oh, and did I mention, you should AVOID this particular podcast. 😂 If I didn’t, well … AVOID!!!

I come here to listen about Apple news, and I really really wish that we could stop talking about political stuff that does not directly affect the tech development or price stuff like that. There is a reason most people do not watch the news. It is to avoid hearing all this stuff about how somebody feels about something that is opposite of their view. Nobody sees everything the same and most people don’t wanna hear about other people‘s views unless they are seeking it out that’s where political Podcast would be not a tech. Apple news podcast does not place for political stuff that does not directly affect and I would keep it short, even if it did affect Apple

I love upgrade and the hosts, and I deeply respect them for keeping the show on-topic and in the lane of tech and Apple. But if you have John Syracusa on the show, I won’t be listening.

But they aren’t consistently close to the mic which makes listening to their voices a little frustrating.

Please don’t turn Upgrade into Connected, which is now just weekly Federico ranting ground.

Used to be a weekly listener who recently started again and just can’t do it anymore. Jason is great and knowledgeable but Myke comes off whiny and lives in such a small online bubble it is infuriating to listen to.

Sadly as the length of the grows, the breadth of the hosts views have shrunk. Myke in particular needs to get out of his tiny podcast world bubble. He’s a bully with a microphone.

Macbreak weekly has become an unlistenable mess with Leo constantly being dismissive of technologies, interrupting other hosts and guests, the “subscribe to TWiT” segment getting longer and longer, a lack of focus on the tech itself and more on politics are all things driving me away from that show and the TWiT network in general. That is NOT this show. This show has hosts that seem to mesh well enough together, having some interesting, nuanced conversations about some of the news of the week. I don’t find myself hitting the “skip 30 seconds” button too often (like I do with MBW) while listening to this show, which is a mark that the show is doing enough to keep attention. Please keep Leo laporte as far away from this show as possible, don’t even have him on as a guest.

Jason is so cocky, arrogant, and insulting to anyone with a different opinion than him. “Ooh look at me, I worked at MacWorld. I AM YOUR GOD!” Just so off-putting. He occasionally makes good arguments. It’s just unfortunate his enflated ego makes it hard to listen to. Edit Feb 2024: in one episode Jason makes a broad sweeping statement about free apps being totally fine under the DMA because they’re free. In the next episode he’s extremely rude and arrogant towards somebody who wrote in with a caveat about his statement, and Jason is basically like “well I’ve said in prior episodes emulators are a caveat.“ So I guess he’s allowed to make sweeping statements but nobody’s allowed to correct him because he said something years ago? This man is too cocky, too arrogant, too self-righteous, and thinks he’s the god of all Apple news because he’s been doing it for a while and nobody can ever correct him. This is not an isolated incident. Myke used to be a much nicer guy, but honestly Jason is dragging him down into somebody I now have less respect for and less interest in his business success.

This is my favorite Apple-focused podcast. Myke and Jason are knowledgeable and insightful. They don’t always agree, but they’re respectful and have great chemistry.

This is the best Apple focused tech podcast around.

Great show. Myke and Jason are funny and thoughtful. They’re enthusiastic about technology and their conversations seem honest and genuine. I truly look forward to hearing this show every week.

Unless it’s tech related, please don’t bring up politics. Also myke and Jason don’t play off each other well in podcasting

It’s a tech podcast. They’re tech journalists. They do that well. There is no need for political points of view, but I get it. Discussing murder of infants is across the line. You don’t understand why it’s considered political, Myke? Bull. You know why it it is. You know that it is. It’s a discussion about murder. Get over yourself.

Every Monday, I await the release of the latest episode and listen almost immediately. They’re funny, insightful, and are some of the best sources for analysis of the tech industry. Their creative efforts and experimental segments are always enjoyable, and the production value of the podcast is just excellent. I mean, who doesn’t love Jason’s laser sounds?! They should use those in the next Star Wars movie.

here's the deal - im like most humans - i like apple products and wish i could have them all in all the colors - but obviously also can't afford that! should i hold out on the rumor of a 14 in ipad but live a year with my 2018 ipad serving as my main accessibility device, because size matters? or should i invest in the new m1? what if i think i need a macbook pro but it honestly matters to me that the macbook air comes in "gold"? i can't make these choices ! heck, i have to basically prepare for a spacewalk to safely go to the apple store. and that my dears is where upgrade comes in -- i like that the hosts are also humans who know that they are going to prefer apple products and they are going to prefer certain style options. i like that they do also open to some alternative products and are willing to compare , since sometimes zflip happens . i find myself saying to my friends "are you looking forward to the big event on the 9th?" to which they say "is that like *sports event* or something?" and i say "how about or something" meaning "you mean you're not going to be tuned in to apples conference with the upgrade hosts as your larry munsons"? in long, i really think the value of the relay fm shows/casts that i can relate to is basically worth as much as any other network of media and this is just one more excellent content they make

Don’t listen to the snowflakes. I laugh and learn with these guys. Great personalities talking about both popular and obscure topics.

I love this show. The guys are both very thoughtful, funny, and insightful. I never miss an episode, and I’m happy to pay a few bucks a month for their bonus content. If you like Apple/tech news, this is a must-listen.

This podcast is one of my favorite podcasts. The balance of opinion and facts about Apple as a whole is excellent. Now even if I don’t always agree on bringing up world events or personal politics, the few times they occur don’t impact how I feel about the shows substance. We are all in this together and if we all felt the same about everything this world would be a boring place with little or no innovation. Jason and Myke are well balanced 👍🏼

I actually directly support this podcast, one of very few that I do. The hosts have good info and options. Some people are currently mad at them because they believe in equal rights for women, and are anti-forced birth. If you can’t handle that, I honestly don’t think anyone will miss you, go away. TL;DR Upgrade good. Fascists bad.

It might be your podcast but the goal for said podcast is listeners and money. Don’t lie to yourselves or us and say it isn’t. I know your politics. I know who you are. I don’t want to hear about it though. Be activists somewhere else. But yeah. I’m done. You no longer have my ears or my money.

Two informed people with well supported opinions who like to talk about technology. What’s not to like? Plus silliness.

I like Jason and Myke. Every week I look forward to a good discussion about the tech landscape and how it shapes their lives and the lives of others. Myke and I are around the same age and have similar interests, so it’s always fun to hear his perspective about Apple, tech, and other hobbies. Jason has been in the Apple game for a long time, and I appreciate his expertise and history within the landscape. And most importantly, they seem like good people. I respect their points of view in other matters outside tech, and I hope they also respect the other points of view contrary to theirs. Please understand that not everyone will agree with your point of view, especially on such a divisive topic. And please understand that both sides have well-meaning arguments. I happen to disagree with them on this particular topic, but I’m willing to disagree and move on.

Jason’s historical perspective and in-depth know how of the inner workings of the industry contrasts nicely with Myke’s more consumer oriented perspective. I only have a few “must listen” podcasts every week - this is one of them, and has been for years.

Listen each week. Have discovered many interesting products via upgrade. Often thought provoking and frequently funny, I enjoy.

Make and Jason provide an excellent recap of the week’s Apple-related news and superb commentary, all in an entertaining episode each week.

Sometimes they’ll just encourage the murder of millions of babies with no warning. Let’s just leave the non-tech hot takes out of it. Thanks

The upgrade podcast proudly supports cutting the spine of a fetus at nine months as it’s being delivered. Why am I hearing about this highly divisive political topic on an Apple tech podcast? Extremist pro-abortion political views are not related to tech news.

5 stars. But please stick to tech and Apple. I get it. Your podcast - Your choice of topics. However, please understand that I subscribe because I want to hear about tech and I greatly respect your expertise in this area. While you may also be very knowledgeable about politics and health and perhaps even basket weaving, I prefer to obtain this type of info from different sources, at different times. Please don’t make the mistake of many celebrities who think that their status has made them an expert in all things and believe that their fans/listeners appreciate every utterance. I regretted having to move on from long time favorites macosken and atp over a year ago for similar issues. Guess we’ll have to see how you do.
