Up and to the Left
Delilah Asterales, Chad Alexander & Tennesseine
Colorful Perspectives from Two White Guys and a Brown Chick! Who We Are: We are three friends, sharing our perspectives in this casual yet engaging podcast. You will know two of us from Twitter, the third you won't cuz that's not his jam. Tenn goes by the handle @Tennesseine and the lovely Delilah is better known by her handle @HawaiiDelilah. Chad Alexander rounds out our stable and lives a fulfilling life without a Twitter handle! What We Do: In our podcast series, we attempt to cover hot topics from the issues of the day. Some of these include democracy on the brink, winning elections, fighting climate change, advocating for a more sustainable planet, improving access to affordable health care, and embracing diversity as the building block of America. We also discuss human dimensions such as travel, cuisine, culture, relationships, community, emotional health, and personal development. We do this with the understanding that as whole human beings we all enjoy good food, good drinks, and a good laugh along the way! Our Purpose: We understand that much of what we discuss on social media is often subject to reductionism due to the nature of the medium. This is our venue to elevate and expand the conversations that most of us are having every day. You will not find formal discourse in our podcasts. What you will find are engaging, left-leaning perspectives and a little humor along the way. Indeed, none of us are professional podcasters and we’re not offering journalistic discourse. This is an adult podcast and with it comes adult conversation, and an adult lexicon. This is a space to communicate our perspectives but from an unapologetically liberal (read: center-to-left) orientation. Come join us as we raise the conversation on Up and to the Left, colorful perspectives from two white guys and a brown chick!
Climate Change - Part I. Earth, Wind, and Fire. And under Water.
Climate Change:  Earth, Wind, and Fire.  And under Water.  Hosted by Chad Alexander, with Delilah Asterales and TennesseineIn this episode of Up And To The Left, we begin the conversation about climate change.  This podcast is an introductory session about our climate emergency and the opportunities it presents.  In this podcast session, we outline the 2021 IPCC report, essentially a “red alert” from climate change experts about what we face, as a planet. There are no more warnings; the climate crisis is here.  We’re living *in* the climate crisis. We consider both the progress and the obstacles encountered when it comes to international multilateral efforts to address this crisis. We try to locate the climate change crisis in the context of United States policy initiatives that are stymied because of political intransigence.  But this podcast is not just a bad news bullhorn.  We anchor this podcast with some pro-active initiatives that can immediately be undertaken to turn this crisis around and, in fact,  transform it into a tableau of opportunities in terms of energy economics and sustainability. From regenerative agriculture to new technologies and innovations, and from redirecting fossil fuel subsidies  to green investment, there are pathways to a lucrative and sustainable future by re-inventing industries. . Resources: DocumentariesNetflix: Breaking Boundaries, narr. Attack on Democracy - Democracy on the brink: Lies, liars, losers, and the architecture of a slow-moving coup
Democracy on the brink:   Lies, liars, losers, and the architecture of a slow-moving coup. Hosted by Hawaii Delilah, with Tennesseine and Chad AlexanderIn this episode of Up And To The Left,  we examine the attack on our democracy, from the weaponization of election information, to what we all now know to be the “Big Lie.” We cover the ensuing attack on the seat of legislative power on Jan. 6, 2021 at the United States Capitol.   We survived both the closeness of the 2020 election and the insurrection in 2021, but our democracy remains on the brink. The intent here is to discuss some of the dynamics at play and to reinforce how we need to be participants in our democracy. We cover why it is vital to push our democracy from the edge of the guardrails and back into the main thoroughfare.  At the end of the proverbial day, it is the sacrosanct imperative of every American to resist tyranny. Resources: The Myth of Voter Fraud; Brennan Center for Justice:  https://www.brennancenter.org/issues/ensure-every-american-can-vote/vote-suppression/myth-voter-fraudLet America Vote:  https://letamericavote.org/Democracy Docket: https://www.democracydocket.com/Donald Trump’s Big Lie Explained: https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/19/politics/donald-trump-big-lie-explainer/index.htmlTrump’s pressure campaign to overturn the 2020 election: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/08/06/trumps-brazen-attempt-overturn-2020-election-timeline/House Select Committee to investigate the Jan. 6th attack on the United States Capitol: https://january6th.house.gov/“Peril”  by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa“After the Fall” by Ben Rhodes  “On Tyranny” by Timothy Snyder

We also cover the issues that we believe are important to a national, and indeed, an international conversation.  Finally, we want to convey what you can expect from us in terms of  subject matter.
