Hi I’m Gabriella.
I never had pain like Ruthie Lindsey.
I have divorced parents.
I’m shy and introverted. I am adopted from Guatemala. I don’t know what her experience is like or any others on. I have a mom and she had hip surgery. She is a divorced. I have a cat and she is in my brothers room. I’m a little jealous.
I am a cheerleading. I go to Summit trail in Washington. I don’t come from the south.
I know my dads mom was very sick and there was a change. My dad told me. I am not a celebrity at all. I come from Maple valley Washington. I’m not a fan of any spicy food. I’m 13 years old. I live in my room. I never get out. I do have anxiety. I don’t like going to the store very much. I don’t like going to the grocery store with my mom. I struggle with that. I don’t have a close relationship with my mom like other people do. I do love her. Me and my mom were going through my adoption paper work. My moms name is Victoria Choc. She was very poor. She worked with tortillas. She and me are from Cuban Guatemala. I learned she had two other daughters with two different men. My mom said it was hard for her. She decided to give me up for adoption because she had no money. It was hard for her. I knew she was holding me and that she was my birth mom. I have a picture of my birth mom. She looks like me. I don’t know my birth dad. Never said on my birth adoption paper. She did not speak Spanish. She spoke a different language. She did not know how to read or write. My mommy told me that was very selfless of her! I don’t go to the grocery store with her is because she is drinking. I was praying in my room. I said to God that I have anxiety about drugs and alcohol.
My brother went to rehab last year. I don’t trust anyone with drugs and alcohol. Because I was born with a mom who fought that as well. Especially in Guatemala. In my adoption papers it said my mom was having a hard time so she adopted me. She asked for people to help me. She knew a lot of people would be there for me in that time of giving birth to me. She had lots of anxiety around people who were drugged up because they were trying to hurt people. That’s why I have anxiety. My mom came in my dream and she was holding my hand! She was an angel! She is gone. I do love her very much. Mommy is going to be ok! No one ever talks about hurting people when they are drugged up. My mom didn’t know many people who had that intense anxiety around them. I said to God I would protect young children in a store! Because they were trying to hurt them physically and emotionally and high. I’m not joking my mother was an angel in my dream! I love 😁🥲🥲everyone. 😁😁😁thank you! I support the army! 😁😁😁😁😁😄😄😄😄😁I love when an army filled with strong women and men can give the homeless flowers and chocolate! A nice coat! Even a cake!😁😁😁😁😁😁😁🤣😉Thank you!

Beautiful
This is such a soothing podcast and very helpful in helping us honor our pain and to also see the light that our pain can provide for us. Such beautiful people. Thank you for your message and your healing ways of how you touch and care for so many!

Human
In the midst of uncertainty of life, intensified by the pandemic called Covid-19 I feel that I’m becoming more human. Ruthie and Miles, thank you from the bottom of my heart for graciously taking my hand as we talk about hard things and point to the beauty of humanity. I feel a sense of hope for us humans as a whole as a result of the vulnerability, honestly and plain ol fun that this podcast so skillfully displays and articulates. You two are truly a gift. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for inviting us into a sacred space of love and belonging.

Love but disappointed
I don’t understand how Connie Britton can say she doesn’t see color when her child is telling her she took his voice from him. My child is multiethnic and I know it every single time we walk out the door or go to the park and we don’t have the added layer of adoption. White people adopting children of color especially children from other countries need to do better. Otherwise, I really love this podcast. I Started from the first episodes and working my way up. This one hurt my heart ...I hope she’s learned he’s not just Ethiopian he’s a black child in America.

Trying to like
I am feeling a bit underwhelmed by this podcast. I find Miles to be a good interviewer but Ruthie is just plain annoying. The Connie Britton interview was just so syrupy, I felt like I was going to go into a diabetic coma. I will try again

Incredible.
Somehow just found this pod. It’s amazing and heart filling. Thank you.

First time here
Hi guys: I was searching for more of Richard Rohr’s talks and found this treasure. Great interview and very down to earth. I felt like I could have been sitting in the room with you. Keep up the great work!

Ugh. I loved all of season one of this podcast and couldn’t imagine not giving a 5 start review, but as I listen to almost all of season two I just can’t keep going. I love that Ruthie is so kind and affirming of the guests but it’s just gone overboard and it’s distracting. I feel like I’m spending my time hearing her fish and not hearing enough from the people being interviewed. Also I miss hearing from Miles. The Morgan Harper Nichols one just did it over for me. I love her and I wanted to hear so much about her. I think miles spoke once or twice and I think Ruthie went on and on on multiple occasions. I love Ruthie and I love this podcast. I think content would just be better without all the over-affirming

Beautiful podcast by beautiful people
Unspoken is a breath of fresh air—uplifting, inspiring conversations in a time when lots of what we hear day to day is discouraging and depressing. They have some awesome guests and always have candid, love-fueled conversations. I wish the episodes were a little bit more bite-sized, as I rarely have time to listen to a whole episode (usually over an hour) in one sitting, but other than that it’s perfect.

Glad I came back to it...
I took a bit of a break from this podcast because like a couple other reviewers, I started to get uncomfortable with the amount of times the same anecdotes came up and less about diving really deep with the guests. For some reason today I felt a strong desire to start Mike McHargue’s episode and thank God I did. It was what the doctor ordered in terms of the truly Unspoken intention. I cried, I related, I listened. Such a great episode and I hope they can go this deep more often!
Thanks, Ruthie and Miles...and thank you, Mike!

Hope
First time listener. Over two days, on my commutes to and from work I listened to your interview with Richard Rohr. Thank you for the way in which you made me feel welcome. Ruthie you have this joyous yearning in your voice that I connected with deeply. I too have that yearning, I know I do, but it's buried deep inside and very muted. You, Miles, and Richard gave me such a gift. Hope. Thank you.

Amazing!
I love Lauren Paul’s insight and way of words for all things self-care, motherhood, relationships, spirituality, the universe, and all things love...so insightful and inspiring in so many ways❤️

Needs an intervention on how much she says literally...
Love her attitude and vibe and her story-but someone please get her into treatment on how much she says literally-beyond annoying-have a hard time listening to her because of this....

Sadly Not what I had hoped
I really loved hearing Lauren speak but if I had to listen to Ruth butt in about her own story and say yesss yesss yess any longer than 1.5 hours i was going to her sick. It’s nice she has all these amazing friends to interview with stories. She loves her humans and that’s great for her. But interview someone with some real deep trauma and not already know them and be best friends and get them to open up to trust you with their story and have a safe space to share it? That’s what I was hoping for and yearning for. Ruthie seems very caring. I suppose this is all about her friendships and their amazing lives.
Just hoped for someone in her position to use this platform of unspoken to really hear peoples stories of life, pain, bad decisions, finding and forgiving.

Surface Level “Deep”
I really wanted to love this podcast as the idea really spoke to me, but I just can’t connect with their “realness”. There is no discussion about privilege in any of these conversations. I was so excited for Lauren Paul’s episode. I too just became a mama and thought I could learn a lot from her, but I found it to be vapid and extremely privileged . Her “openness” about the darkness she felt about becoming a mama barely skimmed the surface on how difficult it is to adjust to this new identity. Why wasn’t there any discussion on the loneliness that comes with having a partner that travels? Or how isolating motherhood could be. I feel like things were only discussed that would make her appear “open” but not too negative. It felt very contrived. Typical LA “spiritual.”
I also don’t like how they make it sound so easy to build your community. “Just find yourself and it will come.” What type of advice is that? Coming from someone who has everything at her fingertips, who has white skin and is married to a movie star. Please don’t mislead people, give them practical tips on finding their tribe. Let’s get actual real and acknowledge how privileged we are and what privileges have made this process easier than it might be for the average person.
If anyone resonates with this and wants real discussions on people being open about issues and mental health, check out Fern Cotton’s Happy Place.
Two stars because I think Miles really tries to get there.

The Unspoken Truth Podcast
This podcast has changed my life. The words and stories have allowed me to connect, reflect and continually inspire me. The stories touch my heart in ways that I never imagined. Listening to this podcast will only open up your mind and heart to new things. Thank you to the participants and especially Miles and Ruthie. ❤️

Great podcast, great concept, very real
I have really enjoyed this podcast. The co-hosts are so welcoming and wise, you want to meet them for coffee and soak up their kindness. Yes, this podcast can get a little emotional (someone cries in almost every episode), and I sometimes feel uncomfortable with that - but I also like that it challenges me in that way - to be comfortable with people’s feelings, pain, with raw and unfiltered emotion. The name “Unspoken” is very fitting and I look forward to continuing to listen. My only complaint is that some convos - like with Arielle and Lauren - just seem shallow to me, as much as they try to go deep. I didn’t enjoy their interviews because they seem SO impressed with themselves and have a huge ego. It’s like they think everything that comes out of their mouth deserves to be a Ted talk, and that comes across very arrogant and shallow. I think as long as they pick more humble and wise people (not girls that are so impressed with their every thought) it will continue to be enjoyable.

Disappointing
I really wanted to like this podcast, and for a while I thought it was just me being a curmudgeon, but after reading other reviews I feel more comfortable saying that Ruthie’s endless outpouring is distracting and has frankly started to feel contrived. How can everyone you know be your favorite person? I completely understand and respect coping with trauma through positivity and I am so happy that is working for her. But it’s really hard to listen to someone say the same “I’m obsessed with you” kind of comments to every single guest. And as others have noted, I don’t feel like we get to hear enough about the guests to know whether their work really is that amazing... I think the final straw for me has been the last few episodes in which both Ruthie and Miles seem to act as essentially armchair psychologists, directing their guests to reframe things they say and forcing them to go through what feels like some kind of radical-love therapy in front of a microphone. I just don’t know that either of them are qualified for that and I don’t know what it adds to the podcast, especially when it happens every time. HOWEVER I give it 3 stars because I think if you listen sparingly it could be a really uplifting and enjoyable show. I will be unsubscribing but probably downloading an episode or two here and there when the guest is interesting.

Truly a gift 🙏🏻
From the very beginning, the Unspoken Podcast has been to one of my go-to podcasts and I can’t recommend it enough... a solid reminder that we’re all in this life together, no matter who or where you are. I love the conversations that Miles and Ruthie have with their guests, and the magical way they create a space for the stories to be told and shared.

Thank you guys for what you do
Glad to see I’m not the only person who has trouble listening with the gush and affirmation - it just feels like so much and I want to hear from the guests. Thank you guys.

Want to hear more from the guests
I love the concept of the podcast but admittedly it’s becoming a little frustrating to listen to. I’m not trying to diminish Ruthie’s story or feelings, but I would really like to hear more from the guests. I feel like the majority of the episodes have been Ruthie telling her own story, and often times cutting off the guests when they are trying to talk. I guess I am just left wanting to hear more from the guests. I would also love to hear more from Miles as well. I think he has a wonderful perspective and has been an underutilized asset so far.

This is what’s saving me lately!
I’m playing catch up with the podcast right now. Everyone morning lately I go for a walk and tune in. I just started season 2 yesterday. It is such a blessing to listen to something so real, inspiring and encouraging. I walk into my home after an hour long walk with your podcast and I feel more grounded, whole and more connected to this world. I don’t know what I’m going to listen to once I’m caught up! Miles and Ruthie, thank you!

Fave Episodes & Affirmation
I haven’t listened to 3/4 of the episodes but I’m always wondering what conversations people like best when I’m giving a new podcast a try and if you’re like me... I highly recommend the interview with Bob Goff & Morgan Harper Nichols 😀
Several reviews complain about too much mush and affirmation - I disagree - I think it’s a beautiful gift that Ruthie gives the guest and I think it’s sweet to witness. At times I admittedly relate to feeling a little uncomfortable by it but I feel like that’s on me! I personally struggle to receive affirmation and one of my greatest needs is acceptance. I love that the conversation is meant to be honoring and life-giving for the individuals (Ruthie, Miles, guest) and listeners!!
It’s my fave podcast for a long drive or a quiet evening as I go about with my chores or something.
Love the mission and practice of this podcast! ❤️

Listened for Arielle
I listened to learn about Arielle. I even liked Ruthie when she was a guest on Arielle’s podcast and in no way want to minimize her strength or what she’s been able to overcome. I just, like many, can’t deal with the constant gush. It takes away from learning about the guest. It makes me feel uncomfortable. I think she should express her gratitude at the start and the end but not gush gush gush gush every two seconds. It’s just too much. Miles always had interesting comments and feedback but Ruthie feels like she needs a gush boundary a little bit just so it doesn’t overshadow the intention of the podcast. You don’t want to lose listeners. I had to hit fast forward through those parts bc it just got so cringey. It also makes me not want to listen to the podcast for any other episodes.

I’m over the over affirmation
I listened to all of Season 1 and I was into it despite the constant doting and affirming. I was also annoyed by the many mentions of the exclusive community that these people are a part of that the rest of us only get to condescendingly hear about - but still, I loved hearing these people’s stories and found a lot of value in it.
On the other hand, I can’t take Season 2. Each episode so far is so full of Ruthie and Miles’ affirmations that I don’t have a clue what the guests’ stories are. Everything is “wow” and “yes” and “I’m crying” and “I’m so deeply in love with you” and “you’re such a gift”. Even when guests want to share their stories, Ruthie first says “if your story is private and just for your community, then that’s great” so that they don’t share it on the podcast. Of course no one is obligated to share anything they don’t want to but why have a whole podcast about someone’s story if if’s just to tease about it and not actually talk about anything real?
I’m losing interest in the podcast, I really don’t see the point of hearing an hour of gushing.

Inspiring, Motivational, Emotional
Miles and Ruthie are two of my favorite people. And I’ve never met them! I love hearing their hearts and listening to them ask thoughtful and REAL questions. They don’t shy away from hard topics, instead they invite the unspoken to be spoken and brought to the light. This podcast has been an absolute joy to listen to. You won’t be disappointed if you take the time to listen to this podcast. Thanks Miles and Ruthie for sharing your hearts with us!

Feels like a giant hug
I first found this podcast through Sophia Bush and that specific one will always be my favorite I literally listen to it every day. I have made it my nighttime routine and sometimes my morning routine it clears my head and leaves me so beyond inspired. For whatever reason I find that specific podcast to be so soothing and eases all of my anxiety even if just for the moment. Sophia is my biggest inspiration and I appreciate so much that she was so open and real and shared another beautiful side of herself. As for the rest of these podcast every single one is a giant love fest and is so comforting and raw and real and it legitimately feels like a hug from the both of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this podcast and for the way you both live your life with so much love! It has gotten me through some really rough days lately ❤️

A little too much
I’ve listened to Unspoken season 1 - mainly for Jedidah Jenkins, but ended up listening to most of the episodes. After listening to 10 minutes into the Arielle episode of Season 2, I couldn’t take the constant doting Ruthie was doing. I love listening to stories and perspective, but could do without the relentless affirmation by the hosts.

The first one I listened to was from your first season the episode with Eduardo Garcia. When I need to change my thinking I will turn on this podcast and listen to you while I commute to work. It is a great place to start my day. I feel like I can start my day following my heart. Thank you

Meh
... 5-stars for the podcast with Arielle, but Ruthie’s voice is quite annoying that it was hard to finish listening to all of it. :-( Her background affirmations (i.e. “yeah”, “mmhmm”, “yes”) sounds borderline inappropriate.

Title doesn’t match content
I love the concept, the hosts and the guests. Sadly, in practice it doesn’t come together like I wish it did. I was expecting more “Unspoken” content - that is, more of people saying the hard things that we don’t typically say out loud. There are nuggets of brilliance for sure but it leans more toward life lessons than struggle and realness. To me this podcast is about learning from the experiences of interesting people, which is certainly worthwhile in itself, but not necessarily what the title implies. They talk about the importance of being real a lot but don’t actually delve down into real talk very often. That said, I have learned some interesting things and do enjoy the podcast now that I have reframed my expectations.
Side note: I am distracted by the undercurrent of the “in crowd” talking about their fabulous vacations together. A little too much gushing and inside jokes amongst friends. I will exclude Miles from that as he seems aware of the listener and consistently tries to shift the conversation toward relatability.

Just what I needed, just when I needed it.
I started this podcast after hearing Miles on the All Our Favorite People podcast with Hunter and Ashley. I started with the episode on Mari Andrews and was almost immediately in tears (and remained that way). Finally! To know there was someone else out there like me was life-changing. Now, listening every morning as I make the dreaded drive into a toxic work space, listening helps me reframe my day. It gives me the traction I need to self-correct any time I feel the moment start to turn sour. Thank you, thank you, thank you for advocating for mental/emotional well-being. Mental health is health. Boundless blessings.

My god. This is a podcast for the everyone gets a trophy crew. At what point is it gross to only interview your celeb friends you’ve gathered from being an ‘ influencer’. It’s like everyone is trying to one up each other on the woke, pain, and empathy scale.

Wonderful
This podcast is wonderful in so many ways. Ruthie and Miles are so beautiful and kind and I feel blessed by these conversations. The guests share wonderful stories/insight and speak very openly. I would just love to hear more from guests that are being authentic in relationship with other people besides friends, such as spouses & children. Also, would love to hear more from Miles.

I listen to podcasts usually when I work out, but listening to this one... oh my! I have to really focus in & have my notebook out. You wouldn’t believe how many notes I take & how many beautiful things come out of each podcast. Been waiting for a podcast this beautiful & truthful; definitely worth the wait.

Role Models
Ruthie and Miles are the best friends in my head and role models of what I aspire to be. In this world today people are accredited for looks, popularity, and repeated cliches. But they have open honest conversations about the things people are scared to talk about, as well as having intellectual guests who share their experiences. It is the hard heart-to-heart conversations and intellect that people should follow and should receive credit for, and that is what I learned the most from this podcast.

I am so grateful I stumbled upon this podcast!
As a deeply sensitive soul, I have fumbled through life not really knowing my place. I felt I had to remain “small” and not be too outspoken and to fit in the perfect boxes and to go along with the flow. It wasn’t until a deep spiritual awakening that I realized that you don’t have to have death knocking on your door in order to live a more purposeful life. I became committed and determined to nourish my own soul with the same amount of love I was always offering to those around me. This podcast came at a time when I really needed it. Thank you for creating this beautiful space where empaths can be celebrated! I too was always told I was too sensitive, and too emotional. Now I am using my energy to be a bridge builder and connector and using my own story to embrace the me that has always been in there. To live a life with no regrets. And to be bold and vulnerable so that others can be brave and open too. Our collective conscious is being awoken; and I cannot wait for us to tune back in to our roots with nature and our oneness. We all belong to each other and radical self love and radical love will be what saves the world. Thank you Ruthie and Miles honoring the human experience and for sharing so many great hearts with the rest of us!

Authentic and Encouraging
I have listened to a number of the episodes, specifically the one with Sophia Bush probably five times and have laughed with them and cried with them. I love to hear as Ruthie and Miles champion the guests, let us into their own processes of self examination & awareness about different topics and genuinely care to dig down deep in a way that allows the listener to really get to know them in a deeper more connective way. By the end of each episode I feel like I just sat down for coffee with my friends and had a life giving conversation that encouraged and challenged me to live authentic and love people deep.
