Unlocking Bias in Music

The B-word stands for “bias” against black girls and women in music but speaks to interlocking forms of oppression in music and mobile technology. I am Dr. Kyra Gaunt, a digital ethnomusicologist, a prize winning author of a best-selling book, and a professor of music and culture. I conduct hip-hop music studies, Black girlhood studies, and write about hip-hop as music and Black feminist thought. Check out my New York Times article “The Magic of Black Girls Play“ from July 2020.
