UNICEF Africa
The UNICEF Africa podcast highlights the stories of children and young people across Sub-Saharan Africa. UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged youth. Across more than 190 countries and territories, we work for every child in Africa. These are their stories. We kickstart with a series on disability -- because accessibility matters! There are nearly 240-million children with disabilities around the world. And did you know, compared to children without disabilities, those with disabilities are: 49% more likely to never attend school? They’re also 51% more likely to feel unhappy. This is according to UNICEF analysis. Listen in.
The words we use
Four youth activists in Africa talk about how to communicate effectively with, and about, persons with disabilities. They share personal stories of confronting discrimination in their lives and tell us how the world could be a better place. In this episode, we hear ‘why words matter’. Brought to you by UNICEF Africa.

“I would love my child to walk and play"
A screening questionnaire used by village healthcare workers in rural Uganda is making waves, for all the right reasons. The paper tool is helping health workers and teachers identify children who may have developmental delays. This early identification is key, to getting children the help and rehabilitation they need. UNICEF is working with the Ugandan government and implementing partners to expand this work in more areas. In this episode of the UNICEF Africa Podcast we head to the Mubende district of Uganda, to chat to a family whose child was diagnosed, with the help of the assessment tool.
