Join us as we explore what it means to expand past the edges of our comfort zones so we can generate more of what we want in our lives. In today’s episode, we distinguish the purpose, intent, and paybacks of complaints. We share some examples about complaints, and then identify 6 different ways that complaint serves us. As we close our conversation, we share a few practices that move past complaints and how we can effectively request what we actually want. Welcome to Unhooked with Mia and Allison where we’ll unhook our bras, take a deep cleansing breath, and dive into the topic of transformation. Join us as we explore what it means to expand past the edges of our comfort zones so we can generate more of what we want in our lives. In today’s episode, we delve into the Adlerian theory (see book “The Courage to be Disliked”) of vertical and horizontal relationships. When we put ourselves above or below someone, that is a vertical relationship. When we honor someone exactly where they are, that’s a horizontal relationship. We should aim to have horizontal relationships regardless of position, experience, title, etc.We discuss how we can put more attention and intention around the way we are relating to the people in our lives. We distinguish between praise and encouragement, and how one is meant to manipulate while the other is meant to draw out someone’s courage. We leave the podcast with two key takeaways that we hope will inspire the listeners. Join us as we explore what it means to expand past the edges of our comfort zones so we can generate more of what we want in our lives. In this episode, we continue our conversation about authenticity inside of relationships. As social creatures, we are wired to go along to get along. This can get in our way in relationships at work, at home, with our friends, etc. When we are performing, holding back, and hiding parts of ourselves from others, it costs us something. And so does authenticity. Listen in to find out. We would love to hear your thoughts on authenticity, so please share them with us. Welcome to Unhooked with Mia and Allison where we’ll unhook our bras, take a deep cleansing breath, and dive into the topic of transformation. Join us as we explore what it means to expand past the edges of our comfort zones so we can generate more of what we want in our lives. In this podcast, Mia and Allison discuss the importance of setting intentions, why we resist them, and how we think they work for us. We use real life examples from our recent leadership retreat and our goals for the next few months. We lay out the 7 questions we explore ourselves when we set our intentions. They are:What breakthrough would you love to get even if you don’t believe it’s possible? What would life be like then? What’s predictable or likely? How would I like things to go differently? What version of myself would I like to bring forward? What is the best and worst thing(s) that could happen to me this week?Like a child might, my desires/expectations are…Which expectations are out of my control? For the rest of them, what actions might I take to resolve them? What am I holding on to? On myself? On others? We hope you enjoy this journey into intention setting and give it a try. Welcome to Unhooked with Mia and Allison where we’ll unhook our bras, take a deep cleansing breath, and dive into the topic of transformation. Join us as we explore what it means to expand past the edges of our comfort zones so we can generate more of what we want in our lives. In this episode, we unravel the intricate world of boundaries and explore their profound impact on our lives. A boundary, at its core, is a self-defined limit that separates our personal space, emotions, and needs from those of others. It acts as a crucial tool for establishing a sense of autonomy and fostering healthy relationships. They are flexible structures that allow us to navigate life with a sense of ownership over our experiences. We know we need a boundary when we feel resentful, overwhelmed, or stressed, sometimes in our interactions with others. It's a call to assertively communicate our needs, desires, and limits, and it involves taking responsibility for our own well-being. In essence, setting boundaries is an act of self-empowerment, a recognition that we have the right to shape our experiences and define the parameters of our personal space without resorting to attempts at control through ultimatums. Welcome to Unhooked with Mia and Allison where we’ll unhook our bras, take a deep cleansing breath, and dive into the topic of transformation. Join us as we explore what it means to expand past the edges of our comfort zones so we can generate more of what we want in our lives. In this podcast, we discuss what gets in the way of our access to no. Most humans tend to say yes to things for reasons OTHER than they actually want to do the thing.Because we are social creatures, we will avoid saying no because we want to be liked, be helpful, and be seen as a good or nice person. In the process of pushing down our no, we unintentionally lose access to it. We lose it under the reasons for why we must/should say yes. Mia and I share why we might want to cultivate our access to no, the pros and cons of doing so, and practices we use.
