Ask a question then listen.
The interviewer often asks questions while also inserting possible answers. It’s not a neutral interviewing technique. I think it might help to send the person being interviewed very simple direct questions ahead of time. Ask them to answer succinctly but show them to add into you may have missed. Don’t lead.

Uncomfortable listen
He’s full of himself, his phone vibrates thru the entire show, he’s condescending to the interviewees, he’s curt and rude. No interview skills. Aimless and all over the place. However he does care about the victims and clearly knows how to perform the research. The delivery is lacking.

Interesting info, arrogant host
The information is great, if the host could try to just be less arrogant that would be great. The narcissism just oozes from every conversation. Be nicer to victims families dude. They come on your show voluntarily and don’t need to be interrogated by you. It’s okay to ask follow ups but learn how to do so with more tact.

Sound can be better pls
The sound quality is not good in the last few episodes! Could hardly hear anything esp interviews by phone

Don’t understand some of the subjects
I am a big fan of the podcast, but sometimes I have a hard time hearing some of the stories. I’m listening to the Layla Santanello episode. The family, especially her mother, is a nightmare. Numerous “boyfriends”, addiction, etc. What a mess. I had to turn it off.

Mired in minutiae with sooo many questions… questions…And still more questions!
I appreciate anyone trying to help these families. Don’t get me wrong. However, the host of this podcast seems to go into each interview with a very long, long list of less than scintillating questions about the victim. All of the interviews are recorded phone calls which means the quality is variable. But the interview questions! Super tedious. For example : “So she was the second to the oldest child?…Huh! Interesting! And you mentioned she right -handed? Oh! Left-handed? Great…Okay moving on let’s talk about…Yes! What color socks did she usually wear?” With an excess of nit-picky conversation sometimes it’s hard for the listener to pay attention when this is an important opportunity to address the big issue.

Egocentric
Somewhere B. Russell is turning in his grave, wishing he could school the host on causation and correlation. While my man smooth Ed Lorenz wants to have a clinic with his namesake on how exactly chaos theory can apply as Ed analyzes disappearances and if he is the reason they were solved.

Host thinks he’s smarter than police
You won’t find a podcaster who is more critical of police! It’s exhausting listening to him bash police. Why Dr T collaborates with him is beyond me. I wonder if she or her boss at the university know about his rants-

Not a fan anymore
This man is so condescending! Idk if he’s autistic or has asbergers or what! But he lacks total empathy! Unfollowing!

Is this satire?
Satire anyone? It’s as if anyone can have a mic these days.

Has potential but host is grating
Despite interesting information and a ton of potential, this podcast is ruined by the host, whose self-importance is abundant and grating. He seems to think he’s the smartest person in any room (unfoundedly imo) and doesn’t mind being openly rude - including to victims’ families - to show that.
I really wanted to like this podcast but I wish I hadn’t bothered.

Annoying
I listen to the Consult’s interview with Ed. He was arrogant and the voice was so annoying. I’ll give Unfound a “NO” after reading other reviews and listening to an episode. Get over yourself!

Great Podcast
Knowing how to interview is why this podcast is great! Ed lets the guest talk and gives them time to express their feeling and tell their story!

Thank you for 8 years.
Avid listener through thick and thin because these people and their families matter.
Great Job Ed!
Your transparency and honorable approach are admirable.

No Empathy
I used to really like this podcast but for the last year it has changed, not for the better! I just listened to the, interview of Gregory Mann’s parents. I had to turn it off. The poor parents are so sad, especially the dad and they were treated with zero empathy. Constantly telling them you were not talking about things they brought up. It was so bad, the distraught father told YOU he was sorry for talking. You come across as mean and to have no patience for your guests. These people have been though enough, stop being rude to them. I hope they go to another podcast that shows respect and will listen. I want to hear their story! (this isn’t the only one, I’m deleting the app)

The sound quality is unbearable STILL!
Update a year later. The sound quality has gotten worse, not better. How is this even possible?
Original review:
I hope one of Ed’s assistants will have the honest conversation that needs to happen regarding the sound quality. I gave up on the two most recent episodes because the sound goes in and out - from barely audible to loud.

Very sharp and honest
I enjoy Ed’s direct questions, how he doesn’t try to be something he’s not, and how he genuinely focuses the podcast on the victims/families and not the sensationalism surrounding the disappearances he covers. Very informative and listening to him has been time well spent.

Great Subject Matter but Hard to Listen to the Host
Wow. I discovered Unfound quite recently via The Consult podcast. I was thrilled to find a podcast dedicated solely to missing people and I really agreed with so much of Ed Dentzel’s opinions on how and why people go missing, how little the police are trained to deal with missing people, etc. That all being said, I’m having a really hard time listening to Ed’s voice. He’s loud and I hate to sound judgmental, but to me, his voice is very grating and annoying. I wondered if taking vocal lessons might help him learn to modulate his voice or sound less like he’s screaming half the time. I doubt he’ll pay attention to this - apparently he’s been doing this for 8 years and he doesn’t take any criticism, no matter how constructive. It’s a shame because I can’t see myself listening to this podcast on a regular basis.

Good content but…
I do like the content but the odd noises from the host like sniffing and the interrupting of interviewees is a bit creepy. I’m not sure if I can continue with this podcast. Such a bummer. I really wanted to like it

I will never listen with headphones again.
After today I will no longer listen to Unfound using headphones. There is an eardrum breaking high pitched sound at around the 13 minute mark of the Cameron Remmer episode. It’s been half an hour and my ears are still ringing. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Others have warned about the podcast’s audio issues and I didn’t agree until now.
I’m updating my review to say the content is worth the intermittent audio issues. Unfound has challenged some of my perspectives and I dig that. Thanks Ed!

A unique and informative podcast
I enjoy Ed Dentzel’s approach to disappearances. He has given me the tools so that I can investigate disappearances in a beneficial way.

Long time listener
I have listened to this podcast since the beginning. I admire the research, time, and effort he puts into each episode. Its quite admirable the detail he goes into in regards to the lives of the victims. Something i have noticed that really bothers me is when he scolds the family members he is interviewing if they get too far ahead of the timeline for his liking. Im writing this review in hopes he reads it and takes note.

Needs a different Narrator
I am sorry to write this review this way, but I clearly I’m not the only one who feels this way judging by the other reviews. This is the exact kind of podcast I am looking for-someone who covers the lesser well-known cases. And he does his research and it would be a great podcast if he would stay behind the scenes and allow someone else to narrate. I am sorry I tried listening two episodes as did both of my daughters, who are true crime fanatics, and they said the same thing he does not belong behind the Mic! I am hoping he can humbly take the criticism and see that he has talent is behind the scenes with research and production, and hire a quality host with the proper diction and radio voice, that we are all looking for. If he could do that, this would be a five star production, hands-down. But right now unfortunately it sounds like a 13-year-old going through puberty and it’s too difficult to listen to, especially drawing out of his vowels, smacking his lips, and clearing his throat.

Poor quality podcast
The host consistently cough, sniffles and sneezes mid interview. You can hear his phone notifications. WORST podcaster ever!

I love this podcast
I have been a fan for many years. I love the way Ed Dentzel takes you into the lives of so many dear people. He is steady, consistent, and always compassionate when interviewing his participants. He has great talent in coaching others down the intricate path of story telling. Best missing person show out there!!

Excellent, heartfelt podcast
This show is well-researched, respectful of victims’ families, and includes interviews with people who know the victims.

Wish I could give less then 1 star review. Incorrect information about her story. Should be ashamed of yourself.

Misinformed & Unwilling to Listen
In the episode from August 2, 2019, titled: “Tammy McKittrick: A Likely Story,” the podcast host tells the story of a missing woman…but according to the family members, he has his information wrong, and to take it further, he never tried to reach out to multiple family members to get a well-rounded account before creating this episode, which absolutely baffles me—that seems like step 1 for any legit podcast. One of the daughters, 7 years old when her mother went missing, and now an adult, is doing her own digging. The family, obviously, would like answers and closure. After reaching out to Unfound’s host, the host was unwilling to speak with the daughter/family, unwilling to correct the misinformation, and unwilling to remove the episode. If the family does not want this episode out there, and if it could potentially harm future investigating, one would think the host would want to be helpful in those endeavors. At the very least, he should respond to the family and have a conversation with them—he instead responded to a Facebook message to say: “I will not be responding.” It’s unprofessional, at best. I’m reviewing this podcast as a “1-star” to at least help get this particular episode removed. To be honest, if he’s capable of treating one case in this manner, who knows what else he is willing butcher in his quest of podcast fame and money. Entertainment is well and good, but you have to care about the people and families of which you report…otherwise, you’re just reckless and selfish.

Tammy McKittrick
Please take down your episode on Tammy McKittrick. It has come to my attention that her family would not like this information shared, as some of it is not true. Please either take it down or respond to one of the multiple attempts her family has tried to reach out to you. This is a family’s real horror story and reality, and both Tammy and her family deserve to have the truth be told and shared, as this is not just a story for entertainment. They are trying to get answers, and have asked people to bring this to your attention, so please take this down.

Speculation and Rumors
I’ve been a subscriber since the podcast began. I’ve put up with the poor audio and interminable intros from the beginning.
What did it for me is that the host reminds guests again and again and again that the show isn’t about rumors and hearsay; however, during the episode from March 3, 2023, the guest is asked to several times interpret things she’s heard and to speculate on relative’s reputation in the community. Com’on, seriously? I guess we don’t speculate and spread rumors when it suits our purpose. When it does, however, everything’s fair game.
Families and victims deserve better.

Thank you for doing this podcast, and bringing the awful stories of the Unfound to light! Thank You Sir once again! I just listened to the Jace Martin story and my heart aches for his mother and siblings!

Love this podcast
The most thorough podcast out there! Nothing gets left out in the interviews. I wait every week for the next one to come out! I can tell Ed really cares about these cases. Great job Ed!

Great Podcast👏
I’ve just recently discovered Unfound and I think he does an excellent job of interviewing his guests. Similar podcasts leave out so many details and questions to complete the story. I’m so happy to have found Unfound🙂

Excellent!!!
Extremely interesting, well researched, and well thought out discussion of the cases…

Disappointing as time goes on
I’ve listened to Unfound faithfully since 2017 - almost the beginning. The investment that the host, Ed Dentzel has made in expanding the brand is impressive: media collaborations, adding videos on YouTube, map analyses, Unfound Live, Unfound on the Ground. He has very dedicated listeners but seems dissatisfied with the lack of attention, subscribers, and money he gains from these efforts. My take is that he suffers from a lack of personal insight and no one around him will have the truthful conversation that’s needed to take Unfound to the next level. I’ll probably keep listening occasionally but I’m unsubscribed at this time.

Tried and true
Unfound has been around for a long time and has always been very consistent in bringing awareness of lesser known missing persons cases directly from the missing’s loved ones. Ed has come a long way in his interviewing skills too, I used to have to
Chuckle bc he’s pretty blunt, but I’ve noticed lately he’s definitely got more of a finesse to get the answers we’re all looking for. If you’re interested in hearing detailed information about baffling disappearances, with a host that is clearly extremely passionate about what he’s doing this is the podcast for you.
On a side note from the podcast itself, the community surrounding the podcast is pretty great as well. He always updates the listeners on everything going on …updates on cases, changes in staff, and schedule (which is rare) and it makes you feel included and invested in the program. I think it’s also really fostered a close community. I used to catch his weekly LIVES and it’s a great way to get to chat with each other. He’s also always respectfully gotten back to me via DM any time I’ve contacted him with questions/concerns about cases I’ve brought to him over the years. Once he even got back to me about a missing person case where I could not think of the persons name for the life of me (that he didn’t even cover! 🤦🏻♀️) which was really nice.

Unfortunately host just isn’t cut out for podcasting
Seems like he tries really hard and does a lot of research. But his delivery is so strange and off putting. It’s just not tolerable to listen to…maybe he should write/research for someone else? I tried, but I just can’t listen.
