This next stop is to two and one-half years later, Thursday December 22, 1949, to listen to Eddie Cantor in a rare dramatic role.  He will star in  an episode of Suspense.  By this time, Cantor had finished hosting the Pabst Blue Ribbon Show and was the emcee of Take It or Leave It.

This week’s journey is to honor Eddie Cantor who  was born  on January 31,  1892.  We’ll travel back to 1947 to hear an episode from one of his many comedy-variety shows.  Then it’s off to 1949 to hear Eddie in a rare dramatic role on one of the better thriller shows.

This next stop will to be almost three years later, Wednesday, July 3, 1946 to listen to an episode of Academy Award Theater.  In this episode, you hear Bogart in the role that finally cast him as the leading man.  Prior to that, thanks to The Petrified Forest,  Bogart had been typecast as a gangster.  He had been sent to the electric chair 12 times and been sentenced to over 800 years of hard labor.

This week’s episodes from The Golden Age of Radio will be to honor Humphrey Bogart.  We’ll  travel to 1943 to listen to a comedy program with Bogart as the guest.  Then it’s off to 1946 to listen to Bogart in an episode from a program that presented capsulized versions of hit motion pictures.

Our next outing with Cary Grant will take us to two and one-half years later, Thursday, February  to listen to an episode of the Burns and Allen Show.  Well-known for his comic acting, Grant was a perfect guest for this comedy show.

This week we will honor Cary Grant whose birthday was January 18, 1904.  We’ll travel to 1944 to listen to him in an episode from one of the premier thriller programs of the Golden Age of Radio.  Then it’s off to 1947 for one of the top comedy programs with Grant as the guest star.

Our next stop will be back eight months to Friday, February 6, 1942 to listen to an episode of Dark Fantasy.  Dark Fantasy featured tales of the weird adventures of the supernatural and was  created by Scott Bishop.  The shows covered horror, science fiction and murder mysteries.

Welcome to a Special Friday the 13th trip back to the Golden Age of Radio.  This is Mike Alexander, your travel guide for journey back to listen.  While there we’ll listen to episodes highlights and excepts for the classic programs of that time.  On this special trip, we’ll go back to 1942 to listen to episodes from two of the Golden Ages better horror and supernatural programs.

It will be my pleasure to be your travel guide as we journey back to The Golden Age of Radio to listen to some classic radio program of that time. Climb aboard the Time Portal and take a seat. While you’re getting comfortable, I’ll tell where our journey will take us this week. Starting this week, and every week thereafter, for the rest 2023 the shows aired will be to celebrate the birthday of one radio actor. The only exceptions will be special shows, such as Friday the 13th and Halloween. This week we will travel back to 1943 to listen to a program that, in today’s vernacular, would be called a dramedy. Then it’s on to 1945 for a comedy variety show. These shows are to celebrate the birthday of Lionel Stander.

This last stop on this journey will be to eight years earlier, Sunday, January 4, 1942 to hear an episode from The Jell’O Program starring Jack Benny. Benny was on radio for twenty-three years, from 1932 until 1955. By the time he came to radio, Benny had more than 15 years of performing in vaudeville, Broadway revues and movie as a violinist-turned-stand-up comedian. I have reset the time portal’s radio dial to Sunday, January 4, 1942 for the “New Year’s Eve Party at The Biltmore Hotel” episode of the Jell’O Program starring Jack Benny with Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Dennis, Day, Rochester and announcer Don Wilson.
