Uncensored thoughts on being in business. Not the theoretical stuff, the real stuff that no one wants to talk about.
#7 - Do you have a bad relationship with your business?
In this episode I take on the concept of being in a relationship with your business. While a stretch if you think about it, there are times where you hate your business as it's treating you so badly, there are also times where it treats you like a king or queen. It's this emotional rollercoaster that we ride every single day that defines our mood, our human relationships and ultimately our sense of happiness and fulfilment.Imagine if your business treated you a little better, met your needs and didn't cause so much resentment, maybe success will follow?Enjoy!GThe Lone Leader Weekly Newsletter - Subscribe: waking-giants.com/loneleadernewsletter/WakingGiants.online School - www.wakinggiants.online/homeFollow me here: www.linkedin.com/in/grantdifford/Get in touch here: waking-giants.com/

#6 - Playing the long and the short game.
In this episode I explore the paradoxical situation we find ourselves in as business owners when it comes to what we focus on now compared to the future. The real ball breaker is that our focus on immediacy is not about being present, but reacting. The opposite is true that we spend too long daydreaming about the future and never take action. This applies to all aspects of our lives, especially considering that our reality is of this moment and nothing more. Our goal should be to find 'no mans land' where we can digest both the present and the future, and ask simply - what meaning is there in what I am doing and is it enriching my experience.Enjoy!G The Lone Leader Weekly Newsletter - Subscribe: waking-giants.com/loneleadernewsletter/WakingGiants.online School - www.wakinggiants.online/homeFollow me here: www.linkedin.com/in/grantdifford/Get in touch here: waking-giants.com/

#5 - Learning to let go & Setting expectations
In this episode I explore my recent thoughts on how we hold onto too much in life and business - our past successes, our failures (especially our failures), our relationships, thoughts and situations.I use the analogy of holding a helium ballon. While you have to hold on to it so it doesn't float away, in the long term it can become a burden. Also I quickly explore how we need to become far more aware of how we set expectations for ourselves and for those around us. All to often frustration and conflict is routed in the mis-alignment of expectations and the fear of setting them openly and honestly early on.A quick listen this week... enjoy!GThe Lone Leader Weekly Newsletter - Subscribe: waking-giants.com/loneleadernewsletter/WakingGiants.online School - www.wakinggiants.online/homeFollow me here: www.linkedin.com/in/grantdifford/Get in touch here: waking-giants.com/

#4 - Back to the beginning.
Today I explore how it feels to go back to the beginning. In a sense that I am now back in the garage like I was 12 years ago when we started the business. The funny thing is that I don't feel like it's a backwards step at all. When I started Waking Giants, working from home wasn't a big thing, pandemics hadn't driven us batshit crazy and a side hustle was a dance. The truth is I couldn't feel more different now as a person, a business owner and a member of society... and thats a mindset. In this episode I dig into the paradigms that we lock ourselves into when it comes to business and how it can trap us both mentally and physically.Enjoy.GThe Lone Leader Weekly Newsletter - Subscribe: waking-giants.com/loneleadernewsletter/WakingGiants.online School - www.wakinggiants.online/homeFollow me here: www.linkedin.com/in/grantdifford/Get in touch here: waking-giants.com/

#3 - Labels, leadership and kindness.
This week I have been blown away by the use of labels in society and our reducing ability to see through them. How you can quietly take the label of 'socialism' and turn into 'conscious capitalism' with some basic logic.Thats the problem with ideology, it doesn't live in the real world with actual practical outcomes.Apply this madness to leadership and you have a bunch of waffle rather than good outcomes for the many. It's a bit ranty, but it comes from a good place. And it makes you realise that great humans, do great things no matter the label or lack of attention.Enjoy! The Lone Leader Weekly Newsletter - Subscribe: waking-giants.com/loneleadernewsletter/WakingGiants.online School - www.wakinggiants.online/homeFollow me here: www.linkedin.com/in/grantdifford/Get in touch here: waking-giants.com/

#2 - Tears, time and creating your own rules.
Lots of learning in the past week in both life and work. I made someone cry in a workshop (I'll explain why!), I was inspired by an F1 Racing Principle and why we need to break the rules now and then...It's hard to accept that you can control more that you currently do, but try we must. It may not be everything, but I bet there is more than you realise that could be changed under your own steam and have a massive impact.Sometimes it takes a grenade, sometimes it takes a scalpel, whatever it is, if it brings a sense of purpose and contentment to the surface, but doesn't dampen your hunger for purposeful growth, isn't it worth a try?Enjoy!

#1 - Cancer, meaning and essentialism.
In this kickoff episode I get deep really quickly about how being diagnosed with cancer has changed my view of the world as a person and a business owner. How we put everything on the line but it's more than we should, our health, our relationships, our financial freedom. I'm currently obsessed with Essentialism - The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Geoff McKeown, it explores how we do less to be more. Less, but better. So I talk about that a little. We are obsessed with consumerism and it is the thing that drives us further away from our sense of purpose than ever before. But it leaves us wanting, wanting more love, more meaning, more connection. We need to build our business for the future - more human.Enjoy!
