Former Swan Alex Johnson joins Jake on the pod, as the total number of ACL injuries grows to 10 for today's show.
It's fair to say Alex's career got off to a flying start. In his second year, the young swan played off in the 2012 AFL Grand Final against the Hawks and achieving the ultimate, in his just his second year of senior footy.
But what would follow, is a devastating and heartbreaking story that saw Alex go through 7 ACL tears through is AFL career. Players who go through, let alone one, know that it takes a lot of mental strength to get through it. But to endure 7 of them and have the drive, determination and mental endurance, with obviously some small and warranted hiccups along the way, got through and got the reward and effort by earning his spot back into the AFL.
It was 2,136 days between appearances for Alex, until he took the field in Round 20 vs Collingwood in the 2018 season. This was a game earned, and was, and still is the epitome of hard work to get back to what you want to do.
To young aspiring athlete's who've had injuries or not, this is the podcast for you!

We're back, the Under Pressure Podcast has returned for Year 3 and what an exciting year its going to be.
On the first episode of the new year we have former West Coast Eagle and premiership player Beau Waters join Jake on the Pod.
Beau had an interested start to his career, he had an injury not as common around the game as it use to be, osteitis pubis, the dreaded OP as they called it back then. As a young player, it was certainly something massive to deal with.
But Beau took it in stride and gained great perspective from this injury and started using his time to not only take care of himself but get involved in charity side of things with the Eagles and helping others.
To finish we talked about a shoulder injury, that unfortunately forced the retirement of Beau. After a lot of hard work, Beau knew it was time to hang them up. He knew that he had a wonderful career, and a lot people don't get the chance, so he was grateful of the opportunities that he had to play the great game of AFL.

Today’s show we sit down with former Lion and Sun who played 243 games, Michael Rischitelli, and have a chat about his time in the AFL and the injuries that surrounded his career.
Michael was lucky not to go through many serious injuries in his time, but when you injure your ACL and then also have shoulder surgery as well, you become very limited in what you can do. He enlightens us with the story around that difficult time.
We chat through a very funny story that occurred at a Brownlow medal night a few years before he finished up. He wasn’t in attendance but his phone was blowing up about half way through the night.
The draft was a difficult one today, not because there wasn’t much to choose from, but the fact that there was just so many athletes to choose from. We draft our all-time favourite athletes, from both on and off the court/field/oval.

Jake is joined by former Crow, Pie and Cat, Brenton Sanderson on today's show. He played 199 of 209 down at the cattery where after constant and reoccurring hamstring injuries through his first few seasons. He forged an almighty career down at the Cats in their formidable defence.
We talked about an incredible story during his playing days. He managed to sustain, a finger injury which he shattered. Before 10 games during that season, he had to strap 3 fingers together and get an injection in that hand to make his hand numb before each game. So he couldn't feel anything during the game. Tune in to hear the rest of that story.
He tells us of a story, when he was coaching down at the Crows. Taylor 'Tex' Walker sustained a season ending injury, he tells how and what he did to rally the troops for the rest of the season.
As always, we finish with, 'the draft.' Today's show brought back some memories, where we looked back at our favourite finals matches, whether good or bad, or even memorable for the wrong reason. It features, what happened to be Brenton's last game. Which was memorable in itself and will be for many years to come.

On this weeks show, Brock McLean joins the Under Pressure Podcast to take a look back at his career, injuries and difficult periods during that time.
Brock started off his career playing for the Dees and all was rolling really well his first few seasons. But in 2008, his first major came as he tore his Syndesmosis, which saw him have to wear a moon boot for the following 6 months.
Which then continued on into some further issues as he was injured, the self-worth and the doubt started to creep into his mind. He had to distract himself from these things, which lead him down the path he certainly didn't want to be down and not using the right coping strategies to help himself.
He talks through his thoughts he had during this difficult period in his life and gives great insights into what its like and what you can do when you're facing challenges like these yourself and know there are ways to help and assist.
We talk about the amazing premiership drought that was broken this year by the Dees and how connected you still feel to your club post career and how important it is to keep those relationships moving forward in life.
We finish off the podcast as we always do, with a draft. On todays show, we look at all-time VFL/AFL greats. There were some very good selections during this one.

Former Fremantle and Collingwood star Brodie Holland joins the podcast this week to talk about his AFL career and discuss the many hurdles he had to overcome in his career.
We began discussing the early stages of his career with the Dockers and how he was having a brilliant pre-season until he was struck down with an injury which saw him sidelined very early on in his career and he did early on to recover from this early set-back.
Brodie then moved over to Collingwood where he was playing regular footy and some of the best of his entire career through 2004-2006. Until injury struck him down in the prime of his career. But to his credit, he worked incredibly hard, took care of himself and looked after his body to get back. Then he was involved in another unfortunate incident that happened in the VFL where he couldn't keep playing and was the end of his season.
To finish, we took a look back at VFL/AFL iconic moments, for this weeks draft and in one moment Brodie happened to playing in that game. Tune in to find out which!

3-time AFL premiership player Shaun Hart joins the podcast to discuss what it was like to deal with injuries in what is one of the most physical demanding sports there is.
We start by looking back at his playing days through the Brisbane Bears and then onto the Brisbane Lions and what he managed to pick up from those senior players around him in terms of methods and the way they go about their rehab.
Then the infamous story on when he had a sickening collision in the 2004 Preliminary finals against Geelong came straight to mind, where Shaun came into contact with Brisbane teammate Daniel Bradshaws thigh in probably what was his most severe injury right throughout his entire career. It saw Hart miss out on the 2004 Grand final and this play turned out to be the last play the 2001 Norm Smith Medalist was involved in, in his career.
Was a very difficult draft this week, as Shaun and Jake look at drafting 5 players each to start up the the new 19th AFL franchise.

Dem has a very analytical eye when it comes to sport. He is a keen sport writer who loves to get his opinion out there to help start discussion between those who read his articles. The articles vary from statistical, analytical to opinion based on the world of AFL and AFLW.
Not only has it been writing, Dem loves to get out there as well. Some of his more frequent sports have been Cricket and indoor cricket, which he still plays to this day. Plus, a bit of indoor soccer at a younger age.
For Dem, it has involved his fair share of injuries. Today, we take a look into concussion and the effects of this. Plus, the aftermath and what is involved with rehabilitating an injury like this. Dem tells us what steps he took and the feelings towards having an injury like this.
We also chat about his beloved Richmond Tigers and how he sees the rest of the AFL playing out. Also, whether he sees the pre-grand final as something that is here to stay. The NFL has begun and we hear Dem's thoughts on his team the Tennessee Titans and how it's going to play out this season. As well as his thoughts on the Ben Simmons saga going on in the NBA and his new found love of Formula 1.
As we have Dem on the show, it was only fitting to involve his love of spin bowling. We draft, 'Australian Spin Bowlers' and it wasn't as easy as you may have thought.

Jarratt is an eager sports player and lover of all sports. He is a PE teacher by trade and loves to introduce sport to the younger generation and has done right through his years so far in education.
The love of sport for Jarratt started at a young age, with Footy and Cricket. He continued these sports right through his teenage to adult years, playing many different levels, from Premier cricket to playing with all his family members at his local club.
Unfortunately for Jarratt, he has been rather injury prone over his time and we talk to him about his injuries and some lessons he's learnt throughout his time.
Segment 2, we take a look at his beloved Hawks and talk about how he sees them going into the future, plus the changeover between Alastair Clarkson and Sam Mitchell this off-season and how that will all play out.
We finish the show as always with 'The Draft' and today we're taking a look at Sporting Movies. There may be a couple that might be a bit of a surprise, so tune in!
