Shutter Brothers Wayne and Kevin are back with some great listener email about mixing your own photo chemistry, wide angle lenses for large format cameras, and a topic close to Wayne's heart: spreading kindness through art. Wayne ielplains how he is rebooting his Random Acts of Art project by making small prints, matting them, and leaving them in random places for people to find. Meanwhile, Kevin continues to work out which cameras to take to Ireland this fall, and his most reason idea allows for him to shoot both color and b&w film with the same camera. Listen to find out how. Happy Photography everyone!

The Shutter Brothers are back, and Kevin has a new light meter to discuss - the KEKS M Light Meter for Leica M cameras. The meter is based on the hansome and functional Leica MR Meter (which Kevin also owns), but the electronics and display are greatly updated to make a good user experience. Kevin's thoughts here are first impressions - no pictures yet - so stay tuned for a full review. Meanwhile, the Shutter Bros' interest in 6x6 cameras continues as Kevin compares his recent experience with a Rolleiflex 2.8D with his own Rolleicord Va. The Rolleiflex has things going for it for certain, but Kevin's recent experiences with his Rolleicord havr been very successful. So what happens when a Hasselblad 500 C/M gets added to the mix? Wayne's show continues at The Arts Center in Athens, Tennessee through May 22. Go see it if you can. Wayne and Kevin have more great listener email to read. We'd love to hear from you as well, so write us at [email protected]. Happy Photography!

Wayne and Kevin get together at The Arts Center in Athens, where Wayne's restrospective exhibit, Things I've Seen: Fifty Years of Analog Photography, is ongoing until May 22, to discuss Wayne's new book by the same name. The book contains every photograph that is in the show, and it looks splendid! If you can't get to Athens to see the show, you can get your own copy by sending us an email to [email protected]. Wayne and Kevin have some great listener email to read, and Kevin makes an impassioned plea to 7Artisans for the opportunity to test and review their new M 35mm f2.8 lens for both Leica M and M39 mounts. In this episode, Wayne and Kevin work through the subject of filters for film phtography. In the old days , filters were the next gear the camera store sales person tried to sell you after a camera and lenses. But are the that important? How often does Wayne (who has been shooting large format photography for over four decades) put a filter in front of his lens? You will be surprised by his answer. Nevertheless, filters have their place, and the right filter at the right time and place can make or break a picture (just ask Ansel Adams). Next, Kevin shares a tale of woe regarding a few rolls of Kentmere 400 that he recently shot and deveoped with the same workflow he's followed for years with other films. It seems that reading and following the instructions for each brand of film is much more important than Kevin had thought. Don't forget that Wayne had a major retrospective show of fifty years of photography coming up. You can find the details here. As always, we highly value and appreciate feedback from our listeners. You can reach us by email at [email protected] or by commenting on either our Facebook or Instagram pages. Finally, you can access our show notes at unclejonesyscameras.blogspot.com. Happy Photography everyone! Go get some good pictures!

The Shutter Brothers are back with a big surprise! Wayne is shooing a 6x6 cm twin lens reflex camera ("I never thought it would happen," said an astonished Kevin). Yes, after a visit to his repair bench, Wayne is shooting his Zeiss Ikon Ikoflex TLR - and enjoying it! So, the Shutter Bros. discuss TLRs (Kevin's is a Rolleicord Va) and how to shoot and print square images. Nest, Wayne and Kevin take on the why and how of making contact proof sheets and how they can help make darkroom printing easier. Also, there's listener email and thoughts about our next Photowalk with the Shutter Brothers. For the first time ever, we are giving our listeners a chance to support the podcast financially as a way to defray production and hosting costs. The Shutter Brothers are back in 2026 and ready to make a show about the joy of darkroom printing. So, after a morning printing session at the new Safelight District Community Darkroom, Wayne and Kevin are ready to share tips on how to make more and better prints from your negatives. Along the way they discuss different approaches to making test strips, which can not only save time and money, but also help get the best image on paper. Also, in response to a listener question, Wayne explains how split grade printing can be used to dial in the right amount of exposure in both highlight and shadow areas. Meanwhile, Kevin is interested in a different sort of printing: Poloaroid instant photography. He recently tried to use his beloved SX-70 SONNAR One Step for some holiday fun, but he could not find his neutral density filter that enables him to shoot Polaroid 600 film instead of the SX-70 film the camera was build to use. And while Tori Fyth Elliot, the owner of Safelight District Community Darkroom, was able to save the day by loaning Kevin a Polaroid 600 camera to use, Kevin is giving serious thought to having his SX-70 SONNAR serviced and modified to natively shoot 600 film. Listen to the show to hear all the advantages of this. It's a new year, and Wayne and Kevin are already thinking about the 5th Annual Photowalk with the Shutter Brothers. If you live in the southeastern Unitted States and would like to suggest a location for this year's photowalk, send them to us at [email protected]. Happy Photography!
