Farmers in Cambodia have started to grow more vegetables to meet rising consumer demand, supported by innovations from a team led by UC Davis researchers. With help from Cambodia’s Royal University of Agriculture, farmers adopted "nethouses" to protect crops from pests without the use of chemical pesticides and packinghouses to better care for their crops after harvest. California produces 80 percent of the nation’s fresh citrus, but a disease called Huanglongbing or HLB, is threatening Central Valley groves. Citrus Greening disease, transmitted by the Asian citrus psyllid, has decimated groves in Asia, Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Florida, and is now spreading in California.
