Kevin Day was a Top Gun air intercept controller with hundreds of intercepts under his belt, and everything he’d ever tracked was explainable. Then, in November 2004, odd tracks started coming down from around 80,000 feet off Catalina Island. Over 10 days, about a hundred separate contacts. Then Commander David Fravor’s flight went to intercept one, and it dropped from 20,000 feet to 50 feet above the ocean in 0.78 seconds. On 22 June 2020, filmmaker and drone pilot Jay Enticknap was filming a performance on a barge at Tottenham Lock in London. Nobody on the boat saw or heard anything. A couple of months later, clicking through the footage frame by frame, he found something flying directly over the heads of the performers… and then coming back along exactly the same path. Aran Devereux was flying his drone over Doolough Valley in County Mayo, Ireland, grabbing one last panning shot before heading home. He didn’t see anything at the time. Back home, his girlfriend spotted it on the laptop: an object rising out of the ground and shooting past the drone, against the wind. Then he found two more objects shooting off in the background.
