Good podcast. Listen and ignore the naysayers.
Good podcast. More serious than Very Bad Wizards, but still entertaining.

I revise my stars when production values improve
I’m interested in the subject matter but the production values are not there. With so many Podcasts out there, I just can’t listen to ones that sound crappy. Get better equipment or learn how to make it sound better. Thank you.

Craven attack on cohost
While I think many of Alexa’s stances voiced in episode 107 are destructive and wholly fail to understand or fairly represent disagreement, that alone would not merit a one-star rating for the podcast as a whole. My reason is simpler: It is reprehensible to make a podcast episode without the podcast cohost in which you undercut and misrepresent every argument in support of him while voicing your own loud support for people who presented him as a bigot in order to cost him a meaningful job opportunity. If you think your cohost is a bigot, do not host a podcast with him. If you are comfortable trading on his name and attaching your own reputation to his, then use that platform to condemn those who spoke in support of him after an injustice, you are badly in the wrong and your joint project is tainted, possibly irreparably.

pretty bland
Heard about the dude in Blocked & Reported. Just listened to the Aella ep. Underwhelming. For starters, what a contrast between the brilliant, incisive, humble & open-minded Aella, and the muted & bland female co-host, a knee-jerk lefty, who thinks it is perfectly acceptable to shun people based on.. wait for it.. not even THEIR opinions, but the opinions of their friends/acquaintances! ::sigh:: i mean i guess that's where we're headed.. "Liberals" have become so judgy & intolerant since the Wokeness. (By this standard, I would not be able to hang out with most of my own family!) Another oddity of this ep is that not once do they ask sexually super-charged (and again, brilliant) Aella, who routinely posts nude pics of herself on Twitter, anything sexual. I mean her polling is great & her background is interesting, so im not saying sex stuff had to be the focus.. but nothing at all?!? How Victorian. Also, for 2 full-grown adults (psycologists, yet), they sure do say the word "like" a lot. Also (sorry one last thing that bugged me).. the guy psych asked the lady psych how her beer tastes, and she just cracks the can and sips... i mean if its a Natty Ice who cares, but she's got some high-falutin IPA that's probably $5 a can, and she can't even pour it in a glass?

Respectful and Skeptical Conversations
I’m here to support Alexa! I think she adds quite a bit to the podcast as a host and potentially a foil to Yoel. The conversations are good faith, honest, and grounded. I do not like beer, though.

I’m not a Psychologist but I LOVE this show,
I love the early shows w Mickey & Yoel, I also love the new shows with Alexa & Yoel. But, both are quite different in their approach - best to start at show 1 and go thru the whole catalogue. If you’ve ever been interested in Psychology, real research-based Psychology, you need this show in your rotation!

Wonderful podcast
I love listening to Yoel, Alexa, and Mickey wrestle with the big issues in the philosophy of science and scientific psychology while they get schockered. This is one of my favorite podcasts.

Informative and entertaining to grad students
I’m an international grad students studying in the US. To me, this podcast is an important resource to me since it’s a window into life in academia. Being the type of person who’s easily stressed out over tiny things, navigating through grad school, where the uncertainty for future is abundant, is tough for me. And listening about scholar’s various way to get into academia was fun and helps me realize that paths leads to academia (or anywhere) aren’t straight and smooth. One technical suggestion though is to calibrate the volume of the hosts and guests so that the volume is consistent across the speakers. I know nothing about editing podcast so not sure if it’s feasible...

Love this podcast!
I should have reviewed the show long ago as I’ve been an avid listener for awhile now. Yoel and Mickey are smart, thoughtful, and easy to listen to. I love hearing their takes on current issues in the field. I’m a psychology professor and I incorporate clips of their conversations in my lectures routinely. Their conversations are inspiring and great entertainment!

Infotainment done right!
The docs said they hadn’t received a review in some time, so... As someone who wants to make a career in academic research, the boys keep me feeling a slightly current while still being accessible (I’m an undergrad) and enjoyable. They’re no Very Bad Wizards, but maybe one day they’ll grow up to be Pizzaros. I kid. 5/5, would drink a beer with these gents and tash talk pop psych

Favorite psychology podcast
I'm a regular listener of several psychology-related podcasts, but this is by far my favorite. Smart and balanced discussion of issues both big and small in psychology and related fields, with plenty of jokes and digressions to keep you entertained. The hosts have great banter and guests are consistently thoughtful and interesting. If you like VBW but want to hear another discussion about Borges as much as you want to stick a pencil in your temporal lobe, then this is the podcast for you!

Fun intellectual takes
I’m a recovering social psychologist (went clinical) and no longer have the time in my work week to toy with some of these larger scientific questions. Love the intersection of our current political state and the state of science. Nice work, fellas. I do not always (usually?) agree with you, and I always learn something/think deeper anyway.

Too woke
I’ve liked some episodes, but they drop their “open science, replication crisis” skepticism when it comes to certain issues. The recent episode on race was difficult to listen to. Just lots of claims about racial discrimination, structural racism, etc., none of it backed up by social science, which is actually really mixed (and often poor quality!) and actually provides pretty thin evidence of such racism, from criminal justice to labor markets. (As Steve Pinker is constantly pointing out, anecdotes aren’t evidence!) I suppose it shouldn’t surprise me when social scientists are so deeply biased on some issues, they’re human too, but it is disappointing. Invite Joe Cesario on your show to talk about police shootings, for example.

Insightful and entertaining
Like many others, I'm an avid listener of the repugnant podcast that shall remain unnamed. However, these two guys have righteously earned their own spot in my podcast stream for the years to come and I thank them for that

A thoughtful and honest take on psychology
A professor recommended this podcast over a year ago after we discussed one of Yoel’s papers in class, and I’ve been a dedicated listener ever since. Their discussions of the many issues in psychology are both captivating and terrifying. Yet, I’m always left hopeful that the field can improve, especially with people as thoughtful as Yoel and Mickey in it. If I have one critic though it’s that Yoel perhaps too often deprives the audience of beer discussion by drinking something else.

Nuanced and interesting
Rigorous and shockingly nuanced discussions that always restore my faith in a discipline I’ve become somewhat skeptical of over the last few years

Recovering VBWer
I was one of those over-loyal VBW fans. Groomed to dismiss 4 Beers from the beginning. I’d listen to the 4 Beers podcast here and there just to confirm my bias. But now they’ve sucked me in and I never miss an episode. Great discussions, great guests.

Heavily enjoyable
I may only be in undergrad for psychology, but this podcast is a treat! It is enjoyable to see professors as people and funny people at that. They offer interesting discussion and just some fun thoughts. I was recommended this podcast by my professor I am doing undergrad research for and let’s just say he struck gold!

It’s always sunny in academia
The guy from its always sunny and another psychologist interview great guests and create fun discussions. Give it a listen.

Sensible and Slightly Pessimistic
Yoel Inbar and Mickey Inzlicht discuss theory, data, application, and metatheory in social psychology and neighboring fields—while drinking and discussing beers, often with guests. Their takes are sensible, occasionally humorous, and worthy hearing. They are more pessimistic about the state of the science than necessary, and more pessimistic even than the evidence they review. Some say it’s better than Very Bad Wizards.

A great psychology podcast.
Frank discussion of issues in psychology from experts in the field. A must-listen for anyone interested in psychology and/or social science in general. “Much better than Very Bad Wizards.” :)

Easily among the best podcasts about psychologists drinking beer
This has quickly become my favourite podcast by psych professors. Mickey and Yoel are a great combination of insightful and irreverent, and have developed into impressively skilful interviewers in a short time. My only complaint is that after Mickey said ‘everyone is annoying on Twitter’ I can’t not see it. Myself included.

Great for when you run out of Very Bad Wizards episodes
Worth a listen (and that's some quality-sounding audio for a podcast). Love these guys :)

Love the pod!
I'm an epidemiologist not a psychologist, but I really enjoy the discussion about science and academia. Two great hosts, very engaging and fun to listen to especially on long runs!

Great Pod!
A very good podcast to throw in rotation for accessible yet informative conversations. I’m always excited to see a new episode released. Highly suggested ;)

Interesting and entertaining
We are sitting in my lab meeting listening to episode 4 together and discussing! Excellent podcast — so many great points in every episode. I’d recommend to anyone doing research in psychology, teaching research methods, or interested in philosophy of science.

5 stars—fun podcast!
Awesome pod that will appeal to academics and non-academics.

At last
Yoel is my second favorite regular Very Bad Wizards guest (sorry Yoel—no one can beat Paul Bloom). I needed more Yoel. Now my prayers have been answered. Thank you. Get a Patreon already!
