Podcast 22: Antibiotic Shortage? Herbs for Preventive Care
There is some news concerning the differences between short and long-term gaps in Allopathic medicine, such as antibiotic therapies. Specifically, a short-term gap in amoxicillin, but a long-term gap in the development of new antibiotics to combat resistant bacteria. Therefore, we recommend taking preventative measures such as using herbs and essential oils to be prepared and stay ahead of the game.In this episode: Kitchen herbs with anti-microbial propertiesApple cider vinegar – Fire cider – 101 Zesty remedies for health – Rosemary Gladstar and friends. Podcast 21: Listening to Your Body & Intuition
Intuitive awareness – the little voice inside that has a quiet presence.  Takes practice and meditation, sitting quietly, prayer or Deep listening. Movement based meditation also works.  Another way is to listen to the Earth around you.People talk to the Divine all the time – ties back to our own innate divinity. We are part of the divine and the divine is part of us."In times of confusion and ambiguity, it’s helpful to remember that there is a numinous power that emerges from a coherent, divine source, and it knows which way to go. We can call this the “power from below,” because it is elemental, and quite physical. It is that organizing intelligence that animates all life. It is the pattern-maker that stitches together our dreams, manifests in synchronicity, and arises in our longing or desire in the body. And if we can learn to follow and embody that power, it will lead the way out of the patriarchy. This “power from below” is Sophia, an ancient Greek word which loosely translates into wisdom. You can find it in the root of the word philosophy, which is the “love of wisdom,” but perhaps more accurately described as Knowing. Sophia is the inner knowing that gets clearer and stronger as we dismantle the old power structures, but she is also the outer knowing that appears in the waking dream, in synchronicity and symbolic events in our lives."Toko-pa Turner, Excerpt from The Knower in You (toko-pa.com/2019/12/13/the-knower-in-you/)Hello and welcome to Two Crones and a Microphone – I am Linda and I am Betty. Podcast 20 Menopause and Accepting the Changes and Celebrating them.
Menopause is a natural cycle in a woman’s life happening for most of us between the ages of 40 – 55 and marks the end of our child-bearing years. This occurs during one of our most involved and committed phases of life when many of us have careers, families, community involvement, and other passions we need and want to focus on.  Most of us will have at least some shifts in physical, emotional, and possibly spiritual baselines and norms we have relied on for many years.  The lead-up to menopause is sometimes surprising to many of us – we do not have training or stories to rely on and inform us in our peri-menopausal and menopausal journey.  We offer some ideas, stories and suggestions in this podcast.  The best thing you can do is be kind to yourself as you move through this change. You are not alone and many new programs, apps and resources are available to help us track and understand our own menopause journey.  Ultimately menopause may offer surprising freedom and changes in focus worth celebrating.  Keep in mind, when women gather together and support each other, amazing things occur. Hello and welcome to Two Crones and a Microphone – I am Linda and I am Betty. Podcast 19: Menopause and the Queen Phase of Life
Menopause is a natural part of the female life cycle which usually happens over a period of time between 40 and 55 years of age. This marks the end of a woman's ability to conceive. In general, most women will have around 500 menstrual cycles in their lifetime, unless they are/have been pregnant, had surgery or have had a sickness that has impacted their menstrual cycles. Menopause is when a woman hasn't had a period for an entire year. The time just before menopause can be quite unexpected, as women don't have many experiences to help them navigate it. This podcast provides some helpful advice, stories, and ideas to make the process a little less daunting.Hello and welcome to Two Crones and a Microphone – I am Linda and I am Betty. SEASONAL CHANGES and how we adapt and embrace them.
Since our last podcast on Spring Tonics and Rituals, I used the ritual broom clearing in my home since the last podcast and it makes a difference! Chat about that. Open windows, etc. If you wish, you may end the purification with a short statement, such as: “Bright and strong flows the energy through my home. This room is purified.” Reminder of other ways to clear your space - Smudge and Spritzers too! Betty your favorites – at night Frankincense – Day is Sage or Sweet Grass spritzer.  One sentence on what a spritzer is…..Nettle tea – tonic herb for Spring allergies – slightly astringent properties, deeply nourishing filled with many beneficial minerals and green goodness. Seasonal changes – spring cleaning/clearing – gifting and the give away – instead of throwing things away – consider the giveaway/  Native traditions.  Meaningful gifts – why is symbolism is important to us?  Snake and the symbolism of change and transformation.  Symbolism is important to both of us – mine is my personal altar – Betty and the Burden Basket – Betty and her clients – personal ritual for Betty and she incorporates it into her healing practice – and her clients can participate in this ritual. When I teach I build an healing altar which becomes a focal point filled with symbolic objects for the subject of the class . for example I recently taught a class on Aphrodite, goddess of love and fertility who governs the waters of life – on her altar I have a lovely large Conch shell which was my grandmothers; I have a Scallop shell, and a lovely crystal cluster, a beautiful vase in the Grecian style with a woman in a flowing gown and an anointing oil.   Hello and welcome to Two Crones and a Microphone – I am Linda and I am Betty. Spring Tonics and Rituals
No. 17 - SPRING TONICS and RITUALS –  – rituals around welcoming the warming of the earth for Potent growth.  There are 8 major markers which make of the wheel or cycles through the seasons of each Year and mark the changing of the earth’s relationship with and rotation around our Sun. There are quarter days and cross-quarter days. The quarter days are made up of the Equinoxes or balance points (Spring and Fall) and the Solstices – most extreme light or dark (Summer and Winter). Also in many cultures the cross- quarter days are also known as points of celebration including Brigits Day or Candlemas (Feb. 1), May Day and spring celebrations (May 1), Harvest festival (August 1) and Halloween/ All Souls and All Saints Day (Oct. 31).These cycles of the seasons have been celebrated since time immemorial in various ways. Going back to Greek and Roman times, Celtic and Druidic celebrations and even older, all the seasons were honored with festivals celebrating the earth changes. Life depends on the crops growing and the animals giving birth to sustain our culture.     Hello and welcome to Two Crones and a Microphone – I am Linda and I am Betty. Share our Daily Life Rituals with you
Intro: Hello and welcome to Two Crones and a Microphone – I am Linda and I am Betty. We are cultural midwives and a force for change using applied practical spirituality. We have been friends and colleagues for over 35 years.  We will talk about wisdom practices we use in daily life.Linda - Podcast overview  – This is our 14th podcast and the topic is Sharing our daily life rituals with you. We will speak about why it is important, how to share with our families and friends and how to help calm that racka-racka roo (monkey mind) when it arises.  Betty - We will share practices and processes you can use in daily life at home, work and play.  Pull up a chair, grab a cup of tea, a pen and paper and let’s get started.  Settle into your body, listen and see what you can use in your life. Quote about Rituals – from my teaching Ritual– the word ritual comes from the Latin “ritus” and the Greek “rheo”, and means to flow, run, rush or stream.  A ritual is a ceremony that puts us back in touch with the stream or flow of life’s energies.   – we want to share as a model what works for each of us – and now you can develop your own practices. Linda – What are our Rituals – If you have a daily ritual (all or part) it helps set the flow of the day. Sets the tone for the day. Helps us with our response to the day – can help us carry through all the day brings us.  Allows us to center and ground.  This is an extension of the grounding practices we have offered in our first podcast, which you can then curate for your own life. Maybe you are not so much a meditator, for example, but enjoy movement so use what works for you as a ritual. Stretching, yoga, tai chi, walk in nature.  Betty - Better, more focused, aligned, alert and RELAXED. “relaxed alert” is a phrase used in many practices, when we are centered, relaxed and grounded our responses are more within our control. Hello and welcome to Two Crones and a Microphone – I am Linda and I am Betty. Anxiety and its Remedies - Part 2
Linda - Podcast overview  – This is our 13th podcast and the topic is PART 2 of Anxiety and its Remedies. We will speak about why it is important to each of us, how to share with our families and friends and how to help calm that racka-racka roo when it arises.  Podcast 13 - MEDICAL DISCLAIMER : As a Nurse  - Anxiety is a Medical Diagnosis so we want to give a medical disclaimer.  Keep in mind this is educational and not intended to replace medical treatment. RECAP Part 1 (Episode 11)  – We covered anxiety and some of its indicators – (body, emotion mind/spirit) – we discussed having a conversation with our anxiety when it arises – keep in mind we want to be the one driving the bus (in our life) - and while anxiety may be a passenger on the bus, it should not be the driver.  Or nervous system is our bridge to our environment and is the seat of our relationship with the world and includes our inner life including our consciousness. The mind-body-spirit connections are real and are governed in large part by our nervous system.    We decided there is so much to be said about Anxiety and its remedies we needed a PART 2 Here are some other things which can help reduce anxiety:·      Exercise raises our endorphin levels ·      Weight bearing exercise – 1-2 lb weights - use soup cans if needed to lift and strengthen muscles in arms.·      Also resistance and stretch bands can be safe ways to build flexibility and strength. I think its more fun!  And I like the colors.  ·      Swimming: Body is stretched, muscles and joints stretched, hips, legs and arms are lubricating our joints – lower-weight bearing Dancing – shaking – SHAKE IT UP – from chair or standing!  Put on YOUR Favorite Music and move -  rotate your hips in a circle or figure 8 – be like a tree and wave your arms like branches – be bird like.  If have have a favorite – like the cha cha (?) then do that!  Have fun with it – smile and move.  For more information on this podcast contact: https://www.minervaed.com or https://frannysphotographystudio.comHello and welcome to Two Crones and a Microphone – I am Linda and I am Betty.
