Ep 003: "Goblin Mode" & The Rise of Nihilism
Have you heard of the term "Goblin Mode". On TikTok the #goblinmode has over 366k videos of creators proclaiming "goblin mode" to be the opposite of “that girl” (a viral trend we covered in our last episode of a highly curated aesthetic lifestyle). "Goblin Mode" is the described as doing the opposite of trying to better yourself. A quote from an article from The Guardian describes it as such, "Peter Hayes, a Bay Area tech worker who says he and his friends have jokingly called themselves goblins, said the term has taken off as the pandemic eliminated the need to keep up appearances. “At home there’s no social pressure to follow norms, so you sort of lose the habit,” he says. “There’s also a feeling that we’re all fucked, so why bother?” Have you experienced feeling "goblin mode" at any point of the pandemic? Is this a transitory movement as a result of the uncertainty caused by the pandemic or is this is a new form of expression that is here to stay? Could this shift be attributed to an increase in nihilism? Have we hit the threshold in society were being hopeful is perceived as naivete? In this episode our host share their experience of how the pandemic has affected their mental health and if they have ever experienced "goblin mode". Let us know in our poll if you have experienced "goblin mode"?  Article link: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/mar/14/slobbing-out-and-giving-up-why-are-so-many-people-going-goblin-mode  Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/twobayareagirls/  Subscribe to us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsfm36MtvXZJsBS8qjKOL8g
