Welcome on in to a new episode of the Tryhard Academy Podcast.
In this episode, Cole and Jeff examine the Reserved List, from both a historical, and a practical,
standpoint, as it relates to Magic: The Gathering, as a whole.
Knowing how emotionally charged people can get sometimes when it comes to discussing a topic like this,
rather than take sides on the issue, the team instead examine the history of the reserved list, from an unbiased perspective,
and then forecast what they expect the future of the Reserved List will be, going forward, based on past precedence.

Welcome on in to a new episode of the Tryhard Academy Podcast.
It's been a few months since our last episode, thanks in part due to the Covid Pandemic and working as a part of the "Essential Worker" workforce; but that doesn't mean that we haven't come up with a hot new episode.
The Lavinia OmenPool archetype is a definite darkhorse in the cEDH gamespace due to the unconventional nature of how she's played, and in this episode, we'll be giving you a rundown on how she's played, as well as what weaknesses to be on guard for.

Welcome in to a new episode of the Tryhard Academy Podcast.
In this episode, Cole and Jeff swing open the doors to The Emerald City and pull open the curtain on the "Curiosity Control" archetype; known by some as the 4C Rashmi Control Archetype. Since C16, 4C Rashmi Control has been a well-performing archetype over the last few years, in cEDH pods worldwide.
This deck blends reactive control elements, with Curiosity style enchantments, in order to draw a boatload of cards and bury your opponents in card advantage. To further their control gameplan, the archetype uses a few tried-and-true asymmetric, and symmetric, hate pieces that do not affect the deck directly.
If you're a fan of playing Magic on other people's turns and controlling the tempo of the game's flow, then this deck might just be up your alley.

The progenitor archetype, created by u/Sickrobot and Sigi of the Laboratory Maniacs.

Jeff's personal version of this powerful archetype.
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/budget-4c-curious-control/
A budget variation (roughly $500 to $750 USD) on the classic 4C Rashmi Control concept; especially helpful if you're on a budget.

Welcome in to a new episode of the Tryhard Academy Podcast.
In this episode, Cole will be taking the reins predominantly to discuss Niv-Mizzet, Parun; both as a creature, and as a Curiosity-oriented control deck formulated for the cEDH gamespace.
While this deck may look like a throwback on the surface (to old school decks involving Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind), don't let the name fool you. This draw-go control style of build has more than one way to "skin a cat", and is fairly resilient to many different types of commonly occurring stax pieces.
When it comes to explosive bouts of Weird Science, few can do it better than Niv-Mizzet himself.
Don't forget your safety glasses for this one.

Welcome in to a new episode of the Tryhard Academy Podcast.
In this episode, Jeff and Cole discuss the topic of whether or not it should be allowed to have any/all Planeswalkers be eligible to be your Commander, regardless of whether or not they were designated as legal Commanders in the first place. In light of Thassa's Oracle being printed in Theros: Beyond Death, this topic is bound to strike a chord with some, and spark discussion in others.
Topics to be discussed include some of the pros and cons involved with making all Planeswalkers legal to be your commander, some of the challenges that would be expected with a change of this magnitude, as well as some potentially problematic Planeswalkers and interactions related to them.
=======================================================
Corrections About The Episode:
1. 4:38 mark to 4:45 mark. During this short time period, the Flash/Rector interaction was mentioned, with reference to finding Doubling Season. However, Arena Rector was erroneously mentioned by accident as opposed to Academy Rector. Arena Rector (BBD) can only find Planeswalkers, whereas Academy Rector (US) actually finds Enchantments.
2. 19:50 to 20:10 mark. Regarding the mentioning of Godo, Bandit Warlord, as one of the only viable commanders capable of Commander damage, assuming Plan A fails, other commanders that were not mentioned include The Gitrog Monster and Najeela, the Blade-Blossom.

Welcome in to another episode of the Tryhard Academy Podcast.
In this episode, Cole and Jeff will be diving head first into the frog pond to discover just exactly how, and why, the Gitrog Dredge Combo Archetype works as well as it does in the Competitive Commander environment.
Built originally by Kiebitzen and Razzliox jointly, then piloted initially by Leptys (u/Leptys207 on Reddit) in Reddit's 5th Annual r/competitiveEDH online tournament (held in 2017), this deck has more than held its own in multiple environments since then, and has proven itself to be a mainstay in the cEDH gamespace.
In addition to discussing how and why the deck works, Cole and Jeff also dive into how the deck "combos off", as well as what you can do to stop an opposing Gitrog Dredge pilot.

Welcome on in to the 9th official episode of the Tryhard Academy Podcast.
In this episode, Cole and Jeff will be looking at Kess, Dissident Mage, and more specifically, they'll be looking at her in the context of what they feel is probably the best suited archetype for her: The Consultation Archetype.
Originally released in C17 with the Arcane Wizardry precon, and again recently in Modern Horizons, Kess has proven herself in a few different shells within the cEDH gamespace, to include the Grixis (Splinter) Twin archetype, the Storm archetype, and the Taking Turns archetype. But little has shown her capacity to thrive in a midrange and stax heavy meta quite like the Consultation Archetype, due in part to its flexibility and its ability to weather through stax heavy metas.

In this episode, Cole and Jeff take an in-depth look at Blood Pod, a stax-combo hybrid deck capable of locking out commander tables within the first four turns, and is capable of defeating opponents either through attrition style beatdown with creatures, or through Kiki-Jiki Infinite via any number of pathways.

In this episode (episode 7), our executive officer Cole gives us the rundown on Ruric Thar Stax, a one-stop shop of various Stax pieces and mass land destruction related goodness potent enough to make most Storm and Fast Combo players think twice about what they're doing at the table in the first place. In specific, Cole gives us the rundown on this deck archetype, to include its strengths and weaknesses, what makes this deck tick, how to pilot this deck, and how this deck accrues value over the course of any cEDH game.
