The world has gone crazy in the name of COVID-19, but there are glimmers of hope that change is starting. In this episode, I review some of the recent ridiculous decisions and look at some of the stories that give just a bit of optimism that positive change is coming.

Texas has a new abortion law that went into effect September 1, 2021. It has some unique differences from other states and is being challenged in court, including an expedited case in front of the Supreme Court November 1. Mississippi has an abortion law being heard by the Supreme Court on December 1. What is this new Texas law, and should abortion be legal?

We live in a country that prohibits discrimination in just about every way – except now it is being mandated that employers discriminate against their employees if any decide it is not in their best interest to take a COVID-19 vaccine. Are these mandates necessary or valuable, and are they even legal?Special thanks to the near quote from George Orwell’s book, Animal Farm, used as the episode title. 

Today is World Mental Health Day, so this episode is a personal story of how mental health issues, including the lack of resources within my state (and even surrounding states) took center stage in my family’s life for many years.

There is no doubt the coverage of the Gabby Petito case has been extensive, nearly wall-wall coverage at times, but why is that, and is the coverage of this case indicative of racial bias? 

There is a tremendous push for everyone to be vaccinated with one of the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) COVID-19 vaccines (yes, one is approved, but that’s not what is being distributed still). You constantly hear that the vaccines are “safe and effective”, but how safe are they? This episode discusses where you can find information about safety, the limitations of that information, and comparisons with other vaccines that have been available for many years. This is not meant to be political but instead meant to provide information you are not hearing in any mainstream news outlets. It lets you have the information and decide what to do with it. Whatever you chose, at least you have the information to make an informed decision based on your personal values and risk tolerance.
