This week on Tri Talk SA we catch up with one of the most loyal servants of South African Triathlon. Following her second place finish at the Ironman 5150 African Championships in Ekurhuleni two weeks ago two time Olympian and Commonwealth Games silver medalist Kate Roberts announced that she was calling it a day on her professional career. We catch up with Kate Roberts this week to chat about her decision and what brought it on. We also chat about her triathlon career as well as life after triathlon. Brad quizzes Kate on what is next and whether or not she is going to be lost to the sport. Kate also shares with us some of her athletic goals on this week’s show which includes possibly running a Comrades Marathon and perhaps looking at the longer, endurance type triathlons.

In 2010 David Taitz weighed in at 215kg. A mere four years later he has completed numerous triathlons including the recent Ironman 70.3 Miami. David’s story is truly inspiring and we are super excited to share it with you on this episode of Tri Talk SA. Find out how David got into the sport, some of the amazing things he has achieved in a relatively short time and also what he still hopes to accomplish in the sport. David also reveals how big a part Steve Atwell’s Embark played in his triathlon journey.

Ironman Wales is one of the toughest Ironman triathlons on the circuit. Despite the tough course the weather tends to not play along either. This past weekend was no different.The racing was intense, as it always is in an Ironman, but in the end it was another South African who picked up the win. He finished 30th overall and second in his age group at the Ironman World Championships in Kona in 2013 and has now picked up his maiden win on the pro circuit following a 5th place on his pro debut at Ironman South Africa in 2014.Matt Trautman joins us on this week’s Tri Talk SA to talk about the race and the win and also to share his inspiring journey into triathlon. Coming from a sailing background Matt made the switch to the sport not that long ago and has really found his calling.We chat about what this win means to him, what his long term goals are and Matt also shares his favourite workout in the pool, on the bike and on the track.

There was an awesome announcement made last week particularly for triathletes that are based in Gauteng. Races are few and far between and decent venues for races are even scarcer.This week on Tri Talk SA we chat to Grant Kuneke from Tri Rock South Africa about the brand new race that they have added to the South African triathlon calendar, Tri Rock Cradle of Humankind.It is a half Ironman distance tri that will take place in the heart of the World Heritage Site that is the Cradle of Human Kind. This week on Tri Talk SA we chat about a triathlon training group that has sprung into existence in East London and is growing from strength to strength! Algoa FM’s Gordon Graham has been around the sport of triathlon for a while now and has set about inspiring and motivating a growing crew of triathletes in the Eastern Cape city.East London is the South African home of Ironman 70.3 and it is now also home to SBR Coaching. This week is a big week on the South African triathlon calendar. Ironman 5150 Bela Bela takes on Saturday and that pretty much signals the start of the South African triathlon season. The South African triathlon team performed out of their socks at the 2014 Commonwealth Game in Glasgow. Another brand new week of Tri Talk SA and we catch up with another Horner. We’ve previously spoken to Claire Horner on the show, but it is now the turn of her hubby, Kent Horner.Kent was the runner up at last year’s Knysna Oyester Festival Big 5 and he is hoping to go one better in 2014. Brad touched base with Kent to see how his off season training is going and the pair also look beyond Knysna to what the rest of the triathlon season has in store for Kent.

Wian Sullwald wins in ChengduIt was another superb weekend for South Africa’s Wian Sullwald. The 2012 ITU Junior World Champion followed up his 15th position at the inaugural World Triathlon Series event in Cape Town two weeks ago with a fantastic win at the 2014 Chengdu ITU World Cup on Saturday.We caught up with Wian, who is still in China preparing for the upcoming WTS Yokohama, following his victory. Wian spoke about the confidence he gained in that race in Cape Town despite his race unravelling with two and a half kilometres to go.Wian also spoke about how difficult he found it to make the step up from the junior level to the senior level and how 2013 was a really steep learning curve for him. Wian gives 3 fantastic tips to any youngster who may be thinking about turning professional and what they need to do to make the step up to the pro triathlon ranks.Brad asks Wian if he feels under pressure with the likes of Richard Murray and Henri Schoeman who already established on the world triathlon circuit.
