I stumbled upon this podcast by learning about Dan / Trapital via LinkedIn. I listen to A LOT of podcasts and I decided to give it a listen. First, Dan has a calm and authentic demeanor, which are great qualities. When he’s talking to his guests it’s very conversational and easy flowing. I’m a former music industry vet so the topics are right up my alley. I’m writing this review after listening to the Splice episode. Things like YouTube, Spotify, and Splice are the now and the future of the music business. There will always be the new talent walking through the door and busting onto the scene, but the “real money” in the music business is going to be made in a very different fashion. Keep up the great work Dan!

As a lifelong hip-hop fan, I’ve always been intrigued and interested about how the genre intersects with culture and business. Even though I’m not in the music industry, the lessons are pragmatic for my own business as a solo creator.

Stratechery is my favorite best b/c how thorough Ben Thompson covers tech and media. I listen to Joe Budden’s podcast to stay in the know about happenings and changes across music (especially hip-hop, R&B, pop). Dan Runcie podcast is educating & entertaining in away that enhances all my other knowledge about media, tech, music, and business model.

As a guy who came up in NYC during the late 90s / early 2000s rap scene, I appreciate the history revisited by Dan, who obviously has an authentic and unique perspective on the culture. I’ve been following Dan from medium to periodical, to journal, to social platform as I have been honored to delve into his contextual insight of the Hip-Hop Music Business, as it is an industry and economy all onto itself. As a professional-underground-commercially -versatile rap artist myself, I submerge into the angles in which he pitches questions to his guests, and allows the experts to explain the nuisances in a science most consumers are too nose blind and tone deaf to comprehend. But more than that? He’s a representative of Black Talent repping in a space that few can, and probably will, occupy from now and for years to come.

I am a real estate investor and came across this podcast after a recommendation from a friend who shares my loves for both hip hop and business. Often, those two interests have such polar opposite “voices” - but Dan’s podcast brings those two together for me. The result is magical. Great guests, too!

A good friend of mine put me on this podcast and it took me some time to tap in, but once I did, I couldn’t stop listening! Dan has a talent for pulling out the narratives between lines, connecting it to the culture and then making it make sense. I’m a loyal subscriber and am thankful for the podcast!
