What are we teaching in Social Studies and why???
Welcome to Summer 2022! This summer Dr. Haddad taught a course titled "History, Policy, & Critical Issues in Social Studies Education" during June. As many can likely surmise from the title and the current political climate, we had plenty of actual real-life social studies content unfolding right in front of us while we engaged with the course content. Our conversations this summer were real and raw and left us with more questions than answers, but that's what the goal is in the end to want to know more after building a shared understanding as a class.  In this first episode, Heather, Michael, and Estelle to talk about pedagogy, assessment and critical literacy in social studies. #UTSASSITN  --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/transformative-talk/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/transformative-talk/support

A Very Gay Episode
This week César, Sonny, and Casey discuss queer and LGBTQ+ identities and the curriculum and instruction in schools. This is a very interesting episode that covers many topics: queers in the 80s and 90s, Drag Races, and TikTok. Although the episode is fun and light-hearted but also very when discussing topics like slurs, representation, and trans-exclusive legislation being propagated across the country.  --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/transformative-talk/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/transformative-talk/support

Chicana Feminist Epistemology: Interview with an activist artist
In class, we spend one week reading and reflecting on the work of those who are part of the Chicana Feminist Epistemology tradition. The group that signed up to produce the podcast this week all identify as Hispanic or Latinx or Chicana or Mexican American or are in their own journey figuring out where they fit. So for this group especially the readings really resonated with them. The episode they submitted was about two hours long because they interviewed two amazing women in their quest to know more and better understand the ideas they read about. After listening to the episode I decided it would be better to split the episode into two episodes so that I could honor the work they did and share their conversations in full with limited edits. In this second episode, Eli, Kat, and Linda meet with Anell Flores a local educator, author, artist, and activist to give the hosts an idea what happens when theory becomes a way of life.  --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/transformative-talk/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/transformative-talk/support
