I always talk about how my podcast exists so I can share all the cool people I know with you, and today's guest holds a special place in my journey. As many of you know, I recently had a baby. . .ok he's pretty much a toddler now. But I don't know what I would have done without Jessie's expertise and online community during my pregnancy and postpartum. Truly, she helped me keep my sanity and build a strong foundation of strength as I returned to lifting after my son was born.
In her own words:
I’m Jessie Mundell - Kinesiologist, Fitness Coach, writer, speaker, and mom to two young kids.
I’ve specialized in coaching pregnant and postpartum folks in exercise for the last 15 years (and counting!). I’m grateful to be a go-to support system for pregnancy and postpartum (and BEYOND) fitness that strengthens and heals the whole body, core, and pelvic floor – without requiring anyone to shrink.
I also educate and certify trainers and health practitioners on how to more effectively and safely coach their pre/postnatal clients or patients to better strength and function.
Importantly, I believe that bodies and business are political, Black Lives Matter, ALL bodies are valued, and fitness is fat-positive.
On this episode we talk about:
- What the coaching space is missing when it comes to pre/postnatal training.
- The important info most pregnant people and new parents are missing out on?
- Busting all kinds of myths around strength training through pregnancy and beyond.
- How things like diet culture, systemic racism, and weight stigma affect people's experience with pregnancy and postpartum, and why we need to care.
- How freaking hard it can be to work out with a new baby + how to show ourselves (and our clients) some compassion in that regard and make it just a tiny bit easier.
