Excellent podcast
I like the clarity around phonemic awareness. Automaticity and mastery a must for students. Especially those impacted by dyslexia. I throughly enjoyed this conversation with Dr Kirkpatrick.

SO Helpful
I started listening to the podcast the middle of last year and each episode I’ve listened to, I’ve learned something and you have affirmed things I’m already doing. Episodes that stand out are; using evaluations to better understand our learners with Katy Vassar, the importance of scaffolding in decoding and alternatives to double-dosing in dyslexia intervention.
Thank you so much for being practical in your approach to helping those with dyslexia and the people who serve and love them. 🩷

Practical Help
I discovered this podcast about a year ago, and as a dyslexia therapist, I get so many practical ideas and helpful insights from all you discuss!
Dyslexia Discovered
Thank you!
I have been listening since the very first episode and I’d like to say THANK YOU!!!!
I learn, laugh, and nod in agreement through each episode.
Listening to each episode supports my practice of structured literacy, motivates to be explicit, prescriptive, and diagnostic, and to give each of my students my best effort.
You mentioned in this last episode how many of us feel like we out there alone; this is true to my experience and your podcast helps me feel connected and to know that what I am doing is the right approach to helping students with dyslexia become better readers and writers.

A must for educators
I have learned a wealth of information about dyslexia! As an educator I know that many of students have dyslexia and we often don’t have the knowledge to support them. This is so useful.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
As a current dyslexia interventionist in my school district, I’m so happy, I found this podcast. As they’ve said in one of their episodes, “teaching is a craft”, and the learning never stops for us. I’ve gotten so much great information, tips, advice, guidance, and suggestions/recommendations for where else to find even more knowledge about literacy instruction. I’m always looking forward to the next episode, thanks for sharing your knowledge ladies!

The “D” Word
At the public school in my area they aren’t allowed to use the “D” word. This is so important. Thanks for sharing all the info.
I have a question. I tutor a 7 almost 8 year old boy (his mom won’t share why he struggles). We have been working over a year on learning the alphabet and letter sounds. He can now identify the letters by sound but cannot tell me all their names. We are beginning to blend these sounds together and segmenting words. When we make words he will say ‘hat starts with a /h/ house’ using the letter sound and key word. In my 27 years of working with struggling readers I have never had a child that can’t remember the names of the letters, but we are pushing onward to reading and spelling!
I’d love to hear any suggestions you might have. I’ve tried a lot of different approaches so am anxious to see what you might suggest.

Meaningful Episode
Hello, I am a resource/inclusion teacher with certification to serve students with the condition of dyslexia. I thank you for saying advocacy takes time to develop in students. I share that all students have a voice and can express to their teachers what works for them.

Thank you Casey and Emily!
I’ve enjoyed and learned something new from every episode that they have created. I currently work with Title I students in a small, rural school. I’ve been continuing to educate myself on how best to teach the struggling readers that I work with in grades K-5. Not only has this podcast provided me with valuable literacy information, but also the inspiration to pursue further training as a dyslexia specialist. I can’t thank you enough and look forward to your future episodes!

Always learn something new!
As an Orton Gillingham practitioner who works outside the classroom, I am always listening to your podcast as I am driving school to school. I am always astounded by the wealth of information that you have to share! I was most inspired by your recent podcast. I had not thought about encouraging my students to become advocates for themselves, but your podcast inspired me to do so. Dyslexia is so individualized and complex. It is so helpful to be able to listen and “relisten” to your podcast episodes! Thank you!!

Fantastic Resource!!
I just discovered the podcast & WOW!! I can’t thank you enough for including the needs of older students! What a lifeline this is! As a teacher of older high schoolers I cannot thank you enough for compiling these resources. It’s invaluable! It’s so hard to find research, strategies, resources, and curricula for our older kiddos that incorporate SOR. I can’t wait to listen to all the episodes. I’ve felt like I’m on an island and now I’ve just spied the rescue plane! You ladies rock! Lifesavers!

My Favorite Podcast
Emily Gibbons and Casey Harrison have hit the nail on the head with this podcast. Every episode is relevant whether you're the parent of a dyslexic child or an educator (I am both). Their back-and-forth flow is easy to listen to, and I always come away with an "aha" moment.

Thank you! Great podcast
I just found your podcast and using it to help educate myself about the science of reading and dyslexia. While I have my masters on reading, dyslexia was not mentioned once nor the science of reading. I also believe especially now that social emotional needs need to be met more effectively through appropriate instruction for all students.

Love the metacognition
Thank you for bringing up the ideas for sharing how the brain works with learners. Great book suggestions.
There is a method in the ESL world for multilingual learners back in the day called CALLA. Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach that was really successful with my English learners in upper elementary grades. Meta cognitive strategies were a big part of that work. Awesome episode.

Helpful & Relevant!!
I have been enjoying all of the podcasts from Emily & Casey so far and I can’t wait for more! I especially enjoy the thoughtful conversation about relevant topics for working with real students. The focus on dyslexia and social emotional learning is spot on for today’s classrooms and students. I’ve found something to take away from each episode that I can use right away in my own classroom.

Excited
I am very excited on learning more. My daughter is in the process of being tested for dyslexia. I have tried to teach/help her learn how to read. She is in 6th grade so the social impacts are huge right now. I am ready to help her and can’t wait to learn more.

Excited for what this podcast brings!
I have followed these ladies on Facebook and IG for awhile and really appreciate the content they have. As a mom to a dyslexic son I love finding resources based on the science of reading, and they bring so much enthusiasm, encouragement, and support for dyslexic students and their families. Thank you!

Experts who are real
I enjoyed hearing Stacy and Emily share what brought them to dyslexic students. These are educators who still maintain tutoring practices. To me that means they are the real deal, walking the walk. I look forward to hearing more about how we as adults in the lives of dyslexic students can make opportunities to build emotional resilience in our students who struggle. There is more to the art of tutoring than choosing the right practice words; Stacy and Emily are going to help us bring those needed heart supports to our lessons.
