For many, the term ‘born again’ is oh-so familiar; but how often do we slow ourselves down to consider the implications of this call of Jesus? In this conversation, we grapple with the weight of Jesus’ invitation (and challenge) for his followers to be born again, and we seek to understand what practical impact this might have in the day-to-day life of a Jesus follower- this is not simply a label we inherit, it's a wonderful reality we enter into!

Anyone who has ever been in a job interview, or thought of having a child, or considered building a house, or undertaking anything significant understands what it is to count the cost. In this conversation, we explore what that means for the disciple of Jesus, and the need to help those we are discipling to count the cost -- because the reward is great!

In January 2021, a former member of the U.K.’s Supreme Court made a simple ten-word statement: "I don't accept that all lives are of equal value." The outrage from people was immediate and wide-spread. Why? And why would it be similar here in Canada? How did equality even become something that most Western people value? In this conversation we go to the source of equality, and we see the opportunity disciples of Jesus have to celebrate Jesus' influence on our culture. Then we discuss how important it is to disciple one another to Jesus, and not merely to the values that He has given us.

Canadians believe that Compassion is a virtue and Consent is imperative. But human beings didn't always believe that way, and not all cultures and people today hold these values. In this conversation we go underneath the surface of these convictions that people in Canada generally hold dear, and see the opportunity disciples of Jesus have to both celebrate how good Jesus' influence is (even though most don't realize it), and how mistaken it would be to cut ourselves off from Him. 

In this episode we continue to discuss the headwinds we face as we aim to be and make disciples in Canadian culture. We are influenced by prevailing cultural values and beliefs, many of which come from sources other than Jesus. In this conversation with our guest Josh Thompson we address some of them, and talk about some practical ways that we can form one another in the convictions and way of life that is true to Jesus. Josh is a disciple of Jesus at Beulah and a leader in the Canadian Church Leaders Network. We loved this conversation.

We continue in our conversations about some of the Canadian cultural realities that can create resistance to our efforts at being and making disciples of Jesus. We observe that too many people are being atomized and seduced (not in the ways you might think), and becoming exhausted from trying to be amazing. We unearth where these dynamics come from, how Jesus' life and kingdom are so different, and what we can do in response.

In this episode we welcome our guest Bria Wong-Armstrong to talk about some of the Canadian cultural realities and distractions that can create friction or resistance to our efforts at being and making disciples of Jesus. Bria is a keen observer of culture and a capable teacher of Jesus' ways. We found this conversation quite interesting and it took us in a couple of unexpected directions, in really helpful ways.

We’ve discussed the WHO, WHAT, and HOW of discipleship, and in this episode, we return to the WHY (as in ‘WHY’ do we feel this topic is of such critical importance). We’ve observed the reality of how the ways of Jesus have fallen out of our daily practices as disciples, we explore where this has brought us as a church, and invite disciples to be re-inspired by the vision that Jesus has for his church.

‘Part 2’ of our discussion on how God has miraculously equipped his disciples for the mission: through the Holy Spirit and through the Bible. Holy Spirit and the Bible together are the means by which God equips his disciples to know Him, be continually transformed by Him, and to join Him in what He is doing in the world.

Without the Holy Spirit, all that Jesus taught and called disciples into would be inaccessible and unattainable for us. But with the Holy Spirit, we can access, enter into and experience more and more of the life Jesus has for us, and the kind of fruitful, impactful life He calls us into. In this episode we tackle the pivotal, yet perhaps tricky statement “Jesus did what He did, not out of His divinity, but out of His Spirit-empowered humanity”, and we open up the “scandalous” possibilities for us that flow from that.
