This Isn't High School
This Isn't High School
Jonathan Carone
Do you remember what life was like back in high school? Before jobs, kids…student loans. Even if it didn’t seem like it at the time, life was great then. Our biggest worries were our Myspace Top 8 and if we’d get a virus from Limewire. But then we graduated and grew up and here we are now wondering how we somehow became the adults. When did that happen? High school taught us a lot, but it could never teach us the things we could only learn from life. That’s what this podcast is about. Welcome to this isn’t high school. An open letter to Jerry Falwell on the future of Liberty University
About ten days ago, the board of trustees at Liberty University requested Jerry Falwell, Jr take an indefinite leave of absence. The decisions the board has made since Jerry has been on leave have made it fairly obvious there will be no long term change in the leadership of the University. With that in mind, and knowing Jerry will likely be back in his role within the next few weeks or months, I wanted to write an open letter to him on what I hope he can do with the future of the school I love. Waiting on God sucks
Waiting sucks. It’s not any fun at all. We have this idea of something that is coming - something we know we’re going to be a part of we believe is going to be great - but it’s not time yet. So what do we do? How do we not lose hope in the waiting? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The single biggest thing missing from American Christianity
When society say you deserve whatever you want, whenever you want, and however you want it, it’s hard not to believe that’s the case. We get conditioned to believe this is the truth. But Jesus teaches something different, and it's the single biggest thing missing from American Christianity today. Blindposts, flashlights, and doing hard things
Blindspots lay in the background and continue to grow and grow and grow until they suffocate the light. To get rid of them, we need a friend with a flashlight who can sit with us and shine a light on those dark places. It’s time to stop letting the darkness win and start getting to the fullness of who we were created to be. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

I know what I want to be when I grow up
Growing up, I was always told I could be anything I want to be. Everyone said to work hard and you can be anything you want to be. At 33, I think I've finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

On money, perception, and Christians having nice things
In today’s world, it feels like there’s this push back against Christians having an excess of money. This week's episode is about how we have a bad theology of money which leads to shame and judgment where it isn't needed. We also talk about our responsibilities as we begin to accumulate a little extra cash and what we should do with it. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

We make following Jesus harder than it should be
Jesus said he came to give us life and life abundantly but instead we're stuck in mediocrely mundane lives because we've made following him much harder than it really has to be. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Sometimes I don't believe the songs we sing in church
If I'm honest, there are times when I'm standing in church and don't believe the words we're singing. Is that okay? Am I lying if I keep singing them even when I don't believe them? This week we talk about what to do when we don't agree with the words on the screen. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

On marriage, sex, and why our generation is getting divorced
Recently someone I went to high school asked me if I had noticed how so many people our age were getting divorced and why it was happening. This week we talk about what makes a marriage that lasts, how our views of sex might be wrong, and what's causing all the divorces in our generation.
