Whole Foods bribed you
Listened to the Spain feature which was way over the top publicity for Whole Foods. The enthusiastic , gee whiz promotion of Whole Food was astounding. Figured it was a junket, which apparently is no longer unethical for people posing as journalists of many sorts. This was confirmed when I saw several other food centered pods etc. discussing Spain and Whole Foods.
Sigh. No longer listening to this podcast.

NOPE
Disappointing, but not surprising to platform Zionists such as Adeena Sussman

Such a smart show. The mix and guests is the best part, and Aliza and Matt know how to lead a conversation that is never boring and always full of great insight.

Great podcast but need a little bit more information
I really enjoy listening to the podcast. I am not in the industry, but consider myself a fan of good food, good writing, and also some of the other topics that you cover. All that I’m asking is when you mention a topic or perhaps even a person you can mention who that person is. For instance, in your most recent episode, you mentioned grading Carter. You could also add there who he is. That would give some more value to the listener, who doesn’t know who he is. Thanks so much.

Marketing is not restaurant-ing
So many of these episodes celebrate some of the worst things about restaurants today. In the Edith’s episode, your guest gushes about Dylan’s Candy Store’s nepo baby owner charging massive markups on candy because of the vibes in the store, and the host cheers her on. Is this not totally antithetical to the idea of community that your guest espoused for her own restaurant? If the media cannot push back against the direction things are going (which is clearly bad and focused on image instead of eating) in the world of food, then who will?

Always learn something from your show..
Having spent a lifetime in the restaurant biz I have to say, your show teaches this old dog a new trick with each episode. It’s fun to to listen to a well thought out show. Your questions and conversations show how much effort goes into what you provide. Thanks, from a long time listener and industry fan.

Commercials
I absolutely love this podcast and have recommended it to many friends. However, I’ve noticed that the commercials are so long that I’m am ready to unfollow.

Chelsea, you dosed your unsuspecting guests w/weed but you’re an authority on hosting?
This story really got no attention. She is such a judgy know it all with a million rules for everyone else and yet she got people high who did not ask for it or expect it and that is astonishingly uncool.

Alice, & More
Dear Aliza & Matt ~
LONG overdue in writing a review. I’ve been listening to TASTE for years now. (First ever, was a dynamite conversation btw Matt & Katie Parla).
Your conversations give such incredible and unique insight into the food world and the people that make it so compelling.
I work at Three Lives & Company bookstore in the west village and last week, Alice came by to sign stock. All I knew was that she was coming right after an interview, but soon learned she had been interviewed by Matt for TASTE.
Matt, you did an incredible job from start to finish, asking such good deep questions; giving Alice the space to give such thorough and insightful answers. It was so good, and there was so much to really absorb that I listened twice!
Keep up the great work. My 4 top podcasts that I wouldn’t dream of missing; each giving a unique point of view are TASTE, GOOD FOOD, Ruthie’s Table 4, and Sarah Raven’s Grow Cook Eat Arrange out of the UK.
And Alice did give the best “Worst Vegetable” answer, and I loved when you asked, Are you ready? Alice replied. “Im not sure.”
MAJOR interview. Please, pat yourself on the back.
Cookbooks are a very important part of our selection at Three Lives and your interviews enhance my knowledge about them, and often turn me on to writers, cooks and books not on my radar. THANK YOU.

New Food Holiday
I love the idea of you and Hunter Lewis creating a no turkey new food holiday. Both Matt and Aliza are absolutely amazing. I’d do want to say that I very much appreciated the care Matt took with Swamp Dogg in that interview. The compassion was noted and made my heart smile. I love this show!

naturally talented hosts and guests i actually wanna hear from
i love this pod and listen to every ep. matt is a super talented host. he has natural conversational skills and thoughtful questions that don’t feel forced or calculated. they always have hosts i wanna hear from or people i havent heard about yet with cool, interesting food backgrounds! wish there was a new ep every day 🥲 10/10 recommend

Great hosts and guests!
I’m a huge fan of this podcast. The hosts are great and they’ve always got the best guests on the show.
RLSP1
Cringey hosts
I agree with the other reviewer. The guests and their stories are always interesting but I find both hosts always trying to show off like oh I know what you’re talking about AND MORE. The hosts tend to ramble with random anecdotes and use a lot of filler words. Too cringey, and have to unsubscribe.

Best Guests
Matt and Aliza get the best guests and have the most easy breezy conversations. These are interesting people across the food spectrum and I am continually surprised by the insights and recommendations I walk away with.

More Aliza - host Matt does too much posturing
I almost never review podcasts, and I enjoy listening to this podcast for the fun guests and interesting storytelling from the guests, but sometimes it feels too insider baseball/bi-coastal food snob scene (but maybe that’s the point), ESPECIALLY when Matt hosts. I constantly feel like he’s trying to “one up” the guests or tell his own experiences/stories/talk about the restaurants he’s been to, when really he just needs to lay the runway and allow the storytelling for his great guests. Oftentimes I’ve turned the podcast off because it’s too self-aggrandizing. If Matt’s reading and is open to this constructive feedback, the interview style of Sean Evan’s, especially as a another straight white male interviewer, is such a great model to go upon - he’s knowledgeable and can relate to what his guest is talking about, but not in a posturing way. When Aliza has hosted, I feel like it’s a breath of fresh air - she allows the pod to breathe and the guests to tell their stories. More Aliza, please!

My favorite ( and I’m discerning!) podcast by far
Accolades/superlatives … all that are in order for this wonderfully simple, easy, informative, professional, important, fun, peaceful and wonderful podcast. I truly truly cannot wait for each episode to drop and so delighted when I see the logo in my feed.
The two hosts,Aliza and Matt are really skilled interviewers, each with a distinct style. The careful attention to format, especially in the opening and the closing “ rapid fire” is so incredibly soothing and well done. I particularly love Aliza’s vocal tone and how she says the welcome each time, each new guest, the same way each time . It’s great. I could go on and on, but suffice to say, their passion for food, chefs, restaurants, the culture, cookbooks, food history, recipes, the work and and and is thrilling and inspiring.
I’ll never get to go, eat, read most of what they speak of but the fantasy is what I’m here for and theirs and all their guests skill and accomplishments. Thank you for the food love!

What is shaping food today
Absolutely adore this podcast. I love both interviewers - what some might see as name dropping or interrupting with “useless” asides is to me an aspirational, encyclopedic level knowledge of the food scene past and present. There are plenty of non-foodie interviews with all these same people if you want to hear that. Think of this podcast as the Devil Wears Prada scene about the blue top. This is not a lowest common denominator food podcast.
I do skip some which are more like long product advertisements, though those sometimes do surprise me - these are major forces shaping the food world that are still important to hear about in their own words, but if you want more investigative journalism you gotta look elsewhere.

Almost 500! Here’s to 500 more
Although I’ve been a listener (and pub reader) for awhile, it just dawned on me that the show is hitting a major milestone; I decided it was high-time to shout from the rooftops! As an All Food Media junkie, This Is Taste has become one of my favorite podcasts. I think what I love most is how relaxed each guest seems to feel as if your listening to a couple of good friends out for coffee. The icing on the cake is you also just get really great content without feeling any part is contrived. Love, love, love it.

MORE THAN ANOTHER FOOD PODCAST
I appreciate the in-depth discussions of ingredients, culture, and genealogy of the foods! Thank you for all the research and clarity! I always enjoy each episode and eager look forward for next “class!” session! 🌷wonderful example of listening to learn— rather than fix!

So great
Just found this pod! You fun and vibrant🙏🙏
Funny weird one
The only fnb podcast you need on your roster
This is my favorite podcast! There is a great mix of people coming ranging from pure chef to technologist and entrepreneur. The episodes with Jean George and the ones with Leventhal are amazing ! But my all times favorites were the one on Pizza week !!! Just give it a try, and you ll be hook.

Two Roads…
The guests are mostly outstanding, and Aliza is an incredible interviewer, but Matt is getting tougher and tougher to listen to. He really tailors his style to each guest in an obvious, inauthentic way, and he uses soooo many filler words. Take a shot every time he says “like, definitely,” and you’ll be three sheets to the wind in a single episode.

good but YIKES! Not diet culture - plz!
I’ve been listening for a while, often enjoying guests I don’t know from the chef and cookbook author world. I find both Eliza and Matt to be excellent interviewers with their own styles.
However - today I saw Melissa Urban (of whole30) as a guest. I immediately recoiled thinking this podcast would feature someone who so intense promoting diet culture under the “wellness” tab. I had built trust with the pod and thought maybe it would be something different…. NO.
It’s an ad for whole30.
I was disappointed. I am hopeful it’s a one-off and they don’t dig into this space again.

Didn’t Realize This is a Show for NY Locals
Tried for the first time today, 7/23, and couldn’t make it past the seven minute mark. Just two hosts talking about restaurants in Manhattan. Nothing useful.
TJ Lily
Lots of knowledge here, but…
The host needs to ease up on signifying how hip he is, and rushing the conversation on to his battery of assigned questions. Loosen up a little !
Oh,please
not very substantive or curious interviewer responses
tried listening to the sandor katz episode but had to stop because the interviewer just kept (as many have said) cutting the guest short. it feels like a listening problem because the responses are usually nothing more than “oh i love how you said this” or “i love how you describe this” or “oh yes that restaurant is great”. generic responses is not generative for conversation.
as opposed to exploring the responses of guests, the interviewer seems to just be running through a list of scripted questions which short circuits a lot of the possibility to go deep on a question. would suggest changing pace, slowing down, and making the conversation more organic

Hit and miss
Good, but too frequent and self indulgent to keep up with. It’s not necessary to release an episode every day about one cookbook. The guy from eater stating that Los Angeles people didn’t care about food in the aughts is the dumbest statement I’ve ever heard someone agree with.
AliG4
Fun episode!
I’ve been listening to this podcast for a couple of years now. I’m a fan and I don’t skip many episodes but thought I might skip this most recent with Alex Lau because I’m not really interested in photography. I’m so happy that I listened as the conversation was delightful! Alex’s story about his job interviews after college was actually so suspenseful that I almost burnt my dinner. Good luck with the Koreaworld cookbook I can’t wait to take a look at the recipes and the photos.

I wish Matt would let them finish their sentences instead of forever jumping in to prove his hipster creds. Eliza’s good.
