In today's episode, we will begin to talk about a podcast avatar. Many folks would say that you need to determine what format you want to use, what you want to talk about, or even a name for your show first.
I want to start with your podcast avatar first. Think of it this way, would you rather build the plane in the air and then learn how to fly it, or would you rather do the homework first, then build then plane and then fly it?
That is what building your podcast avatar is like. However, what do I mean by avatar?
No, I do not mean the movie Avatar with the blue people. At least I do not think so…. What I mean is your perfect listener. The person you are trying to reach with this show. When you crack the mic on and begin to speak, who do you want listening?
The reason I start with building this person is because the decisions that you will make about your show will all be based off of this avatar.
What time of day will they listen to your show? Would they shop at Walmart or Target? Do they drink Starbucks or Dunkin? Do they drive a brand new car, or a junker? Are they in the professional world, or are they more blue collar?
These questions may seem arbitrary, but let me tell you right now they are building something. When it comes to my show, I can tell you everything about them down to their shoe size. I really am not joking, his name is his name is Stephen and he spells is with a ph instead of a v and he wears a size 12 1/2 size in men's shoes.
I will walk you through today the steps for how to build your avatar so that over the next few episodes we can work out the big ideas for your show.
