Nailed the feeling of TAL
As a young dev this podcast is amazing insight into what the future may hold. Rob Connor offers a fantastic perspective, great interview guest, and the accompanying music offers the right emotion to tell the story with added sensation. I truly feel connected to the people in this podcast by the way the host humanizes them, even though they are highly skilled and experienced. The storytelling breaks everything down into bite-sized chunks of humanity that we can all, even non-developers, relate to.

Favorite Podcast
I just started listening to developer podcasts and this is by far my favorite. I hope y'all get back to making regular episodes. I'm assuming you stopped because Rob has been traveling. Keep it up guys!

Funny and informative
This is a great podcast not only for dev folks, but even non-dev folks. The content, the music, and the banter between Scott and Rob are really funny.

Awesome Podcast
You guys are great, and I know you both are very busy but I really do wish This Developer's Life was more frequent :( I check every single day with no luck. Please, release the next podcast soon, can't wait to listen to it! Take care guys.

I really wanted to like this...
I started out with older eps, intending to listen all the way through, then started skipping through in hopes the issues I had with the format would clear up with its maturity. Alas, they didn't.
I will say, the topics and stories told in this podcast are great, very in touch with real people and the sorts of things people in general and developers in specific face. The host had a pleasant enough talking style and I liked his reasoning for starting the podcast.
However, the random interruptions by the music throughout we're annoying and frustrating. There was no rhyme or reason to it, just let the guest say a few sentences then here, ranked bit of music. It left me really frustrated by the end of an otherwise interesting episode. Music between bits would be fine, but not over and over again throughout a guest's story or an "interview". I also didn't care for the hosts randomly interjecting to tell part of the story and at one point even talking over the continuing story playing in the background!
As this seems to be the intended format from sampling newer episodes, I sadly decided to drop this podcast. The music thing is just too aggregating to get through.

Awesome well produced show.
This is an awesome show, it hits my love of well produced "radio" and software development interests. For a small show this has much of the production quality that This American Life has it. I love it, I wish I had done it!

Very thoughtful and very well produced tech shows
As a fan of This American Life I totally crave This Developer's Life. Rob and Scott pick some really interesting topics which are not widely covered in blogs and articles. The interviewers ask great questions to get genuine insight from the guests. I am sure a ton of work is being performed during the production phase to make the content (interviews or music segments) flow easily. I have recommended the show to quite a few people who have been become "converts"! :-)

Great!
Thanks to Rob and Scott for this awesome podcast. My only wish would be to make it more frequent, but I understand it's a labor of love. Keep it up! Hey - how about a show on "uncertainty"?

This is an awesome podcast.

Fantastic!
Love the hell out if this podcast. Love the stories and love the music. I just spent the last month listening to all the old ones. Too bad it's not more frequent. I'm not even a developer but love the stories.

Interesting Content, Overshadowed by the presentation
This podcast has very good content, but it's overshadowed by the attempts to make it artistic. the sound effects, and the music get in the way.

Like one of those NPR programs. The background score is good but kinda cheesy at times. Still love it. Keep 'em coming.

All Downhill
Is this my developer life? Is it all downhill from here? This podcast started off great with great stories. Now it seems we are just making up stories to tell. I liked the format more when it was mostly Rob. I like his voice (view of the world) much better than Scott's. Wish they would try and climb back up that hill.

Great Edutainment
I always come away from this podcasts learning something, getting an inside view of things, and entertained. This is production quality, development education, story telling at its best.

So much potential
I tried this podcast based on Hanselminutes. It would be a far better podcast if they skipped the music and also stopped the framing of segments, prefacing and rehashing and trying to force the subjects' words to fit their views.
they almost made Miguiel DeIcaza's interview un-listenable. Very hard to do, but they almost did it.
Specifically, the music and the narration is so distracting and breaks up the podcast too much. The value almost goes to nil. There are better ways to spend my time.
If you want to mimic an NPR format/interviewer then why not Terry Gross?
But, you know, it's their podcast and they can do what they want. If someoen (maybe me) wants to make a "Fresh Air" for developers then it's up to us.
Thanks guys for the podcast and for the interviewees, but unfortunately for me, it is unlistenable. I can't sit through the music and narration just to get a little bit of the interviewee.
Not knocking you guys - just giving feedback.
I will continue listening to Hanselminutes
Maybe in a few months I will try TDL again.
My suggestion for people:
Try it. It might work for you - it doesn't for me. I do appreciate the time and effort and the people on the podcast though. I respect their choices to do what makes them happy.

Started out great, but somwhere things changed...
I found episodes 1.0.1 to 1.1.4 to be outstanding podcasts. I listened to each multiple times, and couldn't wait for the next to arrive. I'd even play them for my wife in the car to give her some insight into what I do (I am a software developer). As far as podcasts go, it is top notch qualtiy, with good editing, and I don't have a problem with the use of music in this podcase that some people complain about. The topics are usually interesting to me.
Starting with the Revolt episode things took a turn and not for the better. The topics start getting less interesting, but worse the people being interviewed are not as interesting, usually dull, very geeky and often times coming off a braggarts. If the topics were more interesting this would be tolerable. I have not been able to finish a single 2.x episode in a single sitting. I just finished "Play", 3 weeks after it first arrived on my ipod. I hated it. A topic which should have been fun was a real chore to listen to.
I still tell people about the podcast but now I tell them to start with the old stuff first.

Absolutely great!
Lots of bits on career management as a SW Dev which is rare.
I think Scott and Rob are busy, but they should at least update more.
Show's audio editing has improved from earlier episodes - but I can't say how exactly.

Interesting, for awhile. Kinda boring now with awful music
Usually interesting and relevant developer topics, but often lacks conciseness and drags on for longer than it needs to. Usually the hour long show could be distilled to 30-40 minutes of solid content, but there seems to be quite an infatuation with overly long and jarring musical interludes. Admittedly, not everyone has the same taste in music, but the selections are especially bad - a cheap imitation of TAL without really getting the point that TAL's musical selections enhance the stories rather than just playing random songs from someone's jogging playlist. Figured with interesting topics the format might get better with time and experience, but it hasn't really. Interesting occasionally, but got bored with it. Overall I'd give it a "meh".

Amazing
This podcast is what I have been searching for so many years. As a college student and developer wanna be I always wanted to hear more of what it is like on a personal level to be a developer. I haven't listened to all shows yet but the one on abstraction was beautiful. It felt like I was listening to one of those really great Radiolab podcasts but this was about development! Just perfect.

Excellent balance of entertainment and thought provoking stories
When you need a break from technology and want to think about the human aspect of development, consume this podcast.

Love this show.
Great podcast for developers who understand that there is more to programming than simply writing code. I actively look forward to new episodes.

Great stories
The stories they uncover are amazing, it makes me feel good about being a developer that there are people out there who deal with the same problems that I do.

Epic Podcast
A great examination of the emotions involved in software development.

Love it!
I've listened to every episode. A lot of them are classic and will be relevant for quite a while so listening to old episodes is not a waste of time.

Wow
Well done. Interesting. Fascinating.

This has always been my favorite show but the episode 'Revolt' was fantastic! It deserves an award. It was above & beyond anything else. It really made me understand what Egypt went through and made me think about what I take for granted! Well done!

Great podcast
This is a great non-code oriented podcast, very good selection of topics.

Interesting Insight Into Developer's Lives
This podcast has quickly made it to my list of must listen shows. I really like the format of the show, a mixture of great interviews with some great music used in the transitions. The developers that are interviewed are the real deal. Not some guy that runs a software company.

Surprising Connections
The hosts, prominent in circles of the software development community are really creating personable and valuable content. From inspiring to therapeutic and of course entertaining. These episodes convey the struggle and success of work and life, from both prominent and relatively unknown developers. Developers and non-developers alike will absolutely benefit. Thanks guys you make my commute a breeze!

my favorite dev podcast so far
Well, This Developer's Life is my current favorite podcast. I have listened to all the shows, and really enjoyed them.
Specifically I found "Getting Fired" and "Scars" very exceptional and brought my own memories/experiences on certain occasions. They were right on. Both Rob and Scott are phenomenal speakers. They are very fluent and stay to the point. Wish they have more time to add more to this collection, but I certainly understand the constraints.
Congratulations, Gentlemen. And please keep them coming.
Kind Regards,
Baskin

Code without the code
An enjoyable listen that focuses not on the written code but on the challenges, obstacles, decisions, etc a successful engineer, programmer, has to overcome, to become that successful person.

Great developer podcast
There are quite a few good podcasts that just focus on the technology. This podcast takes a different approach and digs into peoples' lives and gets their stories. It sounds like a lot of effort goes into these and it's much appreciated. Thanks guys!

Consistently Awesome!
I listen to many podcasts. Quite simply, I enjoy them. That said, I must say that this is the finest, most creative, consistently excellent podcast anywhere. I am not in the tech industry, but I will tell you that each episode carries parallels that we can all relate to, no matter what line of work you're involved in. This podcast is so spot on, that it has inspired my 21 year old son to pursue a future in the tech industry. We listen to each episode together, enjoying the music, and most importantly, the message.
THANK YOU, Rob and Scott, for setting the new standard. Others can try, but NOBODY comes close!!
