The episode features  "vibey" Zimbabwean born photographer and 3rd year film student Thabo "downtownthabz" Mthombeni on his journey through the lenses. The first episode of season 2  features fine artist and printmaker, Amichai Tahor. He tells of his appointment to take over the late Andre Meintjies' studio in Braamfontein, where he identified an opportunity to create a linkage between image makers and print makers. "There's  a lot of investigation that needs to be done into the act of producing an image into print." Amichai founded Lightfarm, a print company based in Johannesburg, with his friend and colleague, Andrius Vlachakis. Lightfarm services image makers at varying career levels. The first 2020 episode features Puleng Mongale, a self-described storyteller with a love for documenting the authenticities of life while balancing the intricacies of being a modern day creative. “I am led by intuition, feelings so I let that guide me basically.  I just like making the most of what I’ve got at that moment in time.” Puleng speaks on the struggles of being black and creative in the advertising space where output is king and value is judged by how much one can churn in silence.   With a fresh eye and a bold narrative, she takes on the value of collaboration over the power of self-execution.  Here, she shares some of her personal methods revealing how hers and others' experience with aspects of history lead her through the journey of finding her creative voice and set her content apart. “Once you have found your voice and that thing that you love, no doubt.  Everyone is capable of developing a signature. This episode of This Audio Is Visual features Elijah Ndoumbé, a multi disciplinary artist who works to challenge the dominant narrative around members of their communities as pathologized beings. Originally raised in France with roots in Cameroon, Elijah travelled to South Africa to continue studying for degrees in African and African-American studies and feminist gender and sexuality studies. They speak on the importance of food in their childhood, how social media can harm our careers, and their work with Dope Saint Jude among other things. Recorded at the Market Photo Workshop Library, the 5th episode of This Audio Is Visual features Tshepiso Mabula a photographer from Limpopo. They are based in Johannesburg, Soweto. The 45-minute-plus conversation with Mabula touches on a number of topics namely Identity, growing up in a staunch Christian household and their upcoming exhibition UKUGRUMBA, a project she developed as a Tierney Fellowship under the mentorship of Bra’ Buyaphi Mdledle. “UKUGRUMBA, which means to “dig up” in isiXhosa, is a body of work motivated by my family’s trauma as a result of activism in South Africa's struggle against apartheid, liberation and reconciliation effects within present day South Africa,“ elaborates Tshepiso.
