On this week's Neutralizing Workplace Racism, we address the ongoing lethal wave of physical violence and structural destruction targeting Black employees across the country. We dissect a rapid succession of horrific recent events that prove the workplace has become a mortal danger to Black people:
1. The Houston Box Truck Homicide: We look at the vehicular homicide of a 31-year-old Black female mover in West Houston, who was run over and killed with a company box truck by her coworker and boyfriend, Keith Sims, during an active job.
2. The Illinois Amazon Facility Shooting: We examine the tragic murder of 26-year-old contract worker Dylan Perkins, shot multiple times near the entrance of a Matteson Amazon fulfillment center following a verbal altercation and minor physical brawl with a food delivery driver.
3. Residential Pet Hazards and Field Safety: We expose the unique occupational dangers of entering the domestic spaces of racist suspects, detailing critical defensive protocols to survive loose canines, aggressive animals, and hostile property owners.
4. The Death of Petty Officer Angelina Resendiz: We analyze the systemic pressures, structural realities, and safety hazards that follow non-white people who choose the military as a career path, evaluating the unique occupational dangers within the armed forces.
5. Corporate Selective Investment: We scrutinize the corporate landscape—such as the Atlanta Hawks celebrating their latest business class for female graduates—to analyze the glaring systemic absence of programs designed to foster and protect Black male entrepreneurs.
Between coworker hostility, third-party vendor disputes, armed employees, unruly canines, and the toll of record-breaking heatwaves, survival is your only metric of success. Your absolute priority on the clock is no longer corporate validation or career advancement. But rather, to survive your shift alive and in one piece, you must deploy aggressive defensive strategies, maintain absolute silence on personal matters, and keep your daily interaction footprint strictly limited to professional workplace matters.
