Chapter 3: Be a Hero
Robby Lee from a young age walked a path filled with all forms of abuse, neglect, and defeat into his thirties. He was in and out of group homes, homeless, attacked by alcohol and drug addiction and the final draw- eventually sentenced to prison. When he thought there was nothing left for him in this world and had made numerous attempts to end his life, with no success, he finally surrendered. He opened up his heart and mind to a new beginning. God behind bars was part of that new beginning. Through a new awakening of spiritual practice and positive awareness of a different life he could lead, he slowly and patiently came out of the darkness. No day is easy, but every new day is joyous. Robby now spends his time fulfilling his passion of helping others who are homeless. Robby feels it is his duty to help others create the path to sustainable living without being harassed by the police or others in society. Robby founded a non-profit called Damascus Road Miracles where his vision is leading the way to create a sustainable campground for the homeless population in Denver Colorado. This campground will have housing, laundry, food, clothing and other resources for those in need. The goal is to meet people where they are at, with no judgment. This environment will be designed to help them if they want off the streets but if they don't- it will give them a safe space to survive and find their way in their own time. Phase one of Robby's vision has just begun, he facilitates weekly Riverwalks with volunteers to pass out food, clothing, and resources to the homeless camps. Robby also organizes regular clean-up volunteer groups to help go into homeless clamps and provide simple services like hauling away trash. Robby's story and the network he has created will allow him and his organization to do big things in the coming years. Be on the lookout for more Damascus Road Miracles.
