In this episode Amanda and Alex explore the theme of "being afraid of the unknown" to uncover some inconsistencies in that mind's narrative. What the mind calls the "unknown" is found to be all the thoughts (images, sounds, and sensations) that create worse case scenarios and the mind's tendency to catastrophize.
· Is it possible that the unknown and uncertainty are not the phenomena we are afraid of?
· What IS the mind afraid of then?
· The rules and requirements that fill in the blanks of the unknown
· Realizing that what we are afraid of is the known, not the unknown and how that elicits relief and freedom
· Freedom is not a knowing it is resting in the not knowing and the not having to know

· The Allegory of The Cave:
In the allegory "The Cave", Plato describes a group of people who have lived chained to the wall of a cave all their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall from objects passing in front of a fire behind them and give names to these shadows. The shadows are the prisoners' reality, but are not accurate representations of the real world.
· We explore how the shadows on the cave wall are synonymous with our experience of thought
· the ME is the very first shadow that developed- and never explored further.
· This weird experience of “having thoughts”; the seeming separation between a me and a thought. Or awareness and an object. Kicks off the game of trying to change, control or manage thought.
· What can happen when the mind is caught in the Shadow Play
· When the shadows seem real we make it our job to predict which shadows will show up next and how the sequence of shadows has meaning in our lives
· The phenomena of the ongoing self-improvement project which aims to improve the shadows

The wasteland, which is a landscape that some of us get caught in, is based on false concepts and beliefs that have been conditioned. For example, “life is hard,” “life is a struggle,” “you have to fight,” and so on. In this episode, Amanda and Alex explain that if the landscape is populated with those ideas, we feel like everything grey—along with some flukes of brightness.
Today’s discussion involves:
· Our capacity to see that the world hasn’t actually changed, rather the way that our mind identifies it has.
· The false idea that we have to exert force on the world to make things happen.
· Signs that you are in a wasteland.
· Looking for truth in concepts because we are so oriented towards them as our navigation system.
· Examples of different concepts and where the wasteland feeling originates from.
· Admitting you don’t know what’s going on.
· The subtlety of the wasteland, which causes us to not see it sometimes.
· Catching on to the mind’s contradictions in it’s narrative and the big payoff.
· Why the wonder land is not exclusive from the experience of the wasteland.
· Real catastrophes happening in the world and how our mind separates us from them.
· Resistance that occurs when trying to apply logic to certain situations.
· Fear and worry’s transformation in the wonder land.
· Noticing that doing happens, regardless of who takes ownership of it.
· How do we find the wonder land more in our day-to-day?
· Playing around with the paradox of the wasteland being immersed in the wonder land.
· How to answer the question of “if I’m not me, who am I?”

Welcome to the first episode of The Wonder Land, hosted by Amanda Jones and Alex Linares. Today we’ll be talking about the exploration that we go through in our lives. For many people, it always seems like there’s a void that needs to be filled; like something is off. Why do we feel compelled to keep seeking for answers?
Today’s discussion involves:
· Two quotes to outline what the goal of this podcast is.
· What drives the seeking and different modalities we go through in our lives.
· Understanding that the belief you are getting somewhere is the real problem.
· Are your beliefs about the world chosen, or are they arising because they’re part of the energetic movement of the universe?
· The unsettling feeling of realizing that we don’t know how anything is arising.
· Why there’s no need for the concept of control if we accept that there’s no agenda.
· The lack of ongoing predictability and why that’s uncomfortable for our minds.
· Tension created from the internal back-and-forth of feeling in control versus feeling like the victim.
· The truth of no separation, and thought taking credit as being the controller.
· Why the feeling of “being off” isn’t something that needs to be corrected.
· Seeing life in so many different ways as it shows up.
· Resisting unsettled feelings and why that causes them to remain a problem.
· Areas of your life where it feels like nothing is ever enough.
· Comparing the game Whac-A-Mole to how some people attempt to control their life.
· How feelings are a reminder that a game is being played in our lives.
· Accepting that your failure to control your experience is a success.
