On the right track for subject matter as there are almost no good and consistent aviation podcasts but this one has the same shortcomings most others do which is simply a massive lack of content. Interviewing someone about the Aeroshell Aerobatic team for 40 minutes is gonna get you the same level of understanding as watching a 15 minute YouTube video. People want a long form discussion. If you talk to a person you’ve never met for 40 minutes you aren’t getting to know them. You are learning their name and maybe a little about their background but to try to cover such an in depth topic in an interesting way is going to require an actual conversation. You need to be a skilled interviewer because sometimes when people have done something all their life they don’t necessarily know what is interesting to new people to someone who hasn’t done it or sometimes they’re just not very good at talking because they’ve spent their life learning a skill so you as an interviewer have to learn to pull good material out of them.

D puts a lot of time and effort into this podcast and the love he has for the industry is evident. If I don’t learn at least one thing from an episode, I’ve failed myself. He’s a wealth of knowledge that bridges the gap between pilots and controllers. I first heard of Derek during brief forays into VATSIM and seeing clips of his twitch streams, which then led me to the podcast. The first thing that struck me is how well Derek is at making the material understandable and approachable to listeners of all caliber, whether they be new to aviation, an ATP holder, or anything in between. Its very nice to have his opinions and topics backed up with his real world experience as an air traffic controller, which adds a nice layer of proffessionalism to the pod. Its evident that he's a comfortable speaker as he and producer Chris make the pod a fun, educational, and interesting foray into the world of aviation. Would reccomend to anybody out there! Keep up the good stuff.

Derek is such an inspiration to the aviation community in which he serves. Being a full time air traffic controller in the busiest airspace in the country, then spending countless hours interviewing, editing and posting the people who are associated in aviation is such a huge accomplishment. As an aspiring ATC, someone who loves to learn, and enjoys everything-aviation but hates listening to podcasts, The Traffic Pattern has definitely changed that for me! As a frequent commuter I tend to listen to a pod or two while in the car and even find myself repeating a show just to see if I missed anything the first (or second) time around. I always look forward to coming guests and keeping up with what’s going on with the pod. Overall, 5/5 and I’ll be a listener as long as they’re recording. Keep up the good work guys!

I’ve had the chance to control with Derek on VATSIM, and he had let us know that he was going to be starting up a podcast. I was impressed with the quality of even the first podcast and it was obvious he had put a lot of work into getting it started up! I really enjoy the content and it’s very enjoyable to hear about the same industry from so many different points of view. Being an instrument rated private pilot aspiring to be an airline pilot, I get the chance to listen to professionals talk about their everyday lives and how aviation impacts them! I love it!

I had the pleasure of running into Derek on VATSIM during FNO into Philly. I knew something was up because the quality of controlling was amazing. He let us know his pod was coming out the next week and I have been hooked ever since. Amazing insight from all across the aviation career spectrum. Last episode made me book plane tickets for my first Flight Sim Expo. Now I’ve just gotta run into you when I’m in the real skies. Keep up the amazing work, the pod gets better each and every week!

I originally heard about this when I was flying on VATSIM, and everyone on there were about 100 inbounds all under the control of DK. After some traffic died down, people started commenting on how great his controlling skills are and how awesome he is!! That’s when he said, “hey, I’ve got a new podcast, the traffic pattern, check it out!” And I’m glad I did! One of the best podcasts I’ve heard in a while, and it appeals to such a wide variety!

Derek clearly has a passion for aviation and a great voice to share it! With a wide range of topics, from personal to professional, it's a great listen at the desk or in the car. As a pilot, it's right up my alley and is one of the few aviation related podcasts that can keep my attention. DK has a fantastic ability to break down complex aeronautical topics in a way that non-aviation nerds can understand. I have high hopes for the future and look forward to future episodes!

Great podcast for anybody interested in aviation but Derek Vento seems like he’s the kind of guy who, on a slow Saturday night, would go to Chick-fli-a and get milkshakes for everybody on the A-line wall while purposefully excluding the C-line guys.

Derek is a fantastic storyteller, very passionate about aviation. Can’t wait for more episodes!
