Daughters of the West - the story behind the Bulldogs AFLW anthem
With the advent of the AFLW competition, something needed to be done about some of the team songs. The Western Bulldogs song - Sons of the West - was particularly unsuitable due to the following lines: "Sons of the West..." and "You can't beat the boys of the bulldog breed..." You can't have proffessional women footballers running out to that.So the club approached singer and entertainer Mish Fornito to help them record a version dedicated specifically to the women's team. It is unique among the team anthems in that it is sung to great effect by a solo female voice. We found Mish and she was very pleased to give us an account of herself and how the recording came about. Songs: 'Sons of the 'Scray' by The Thinmen with Len Barnard and his Party Jazzmen'Daughters of the West' performed by Mish Fornito
